localidad, fundamentalmente vacas y caballos.
caceras y acequias y pequeñas huertas y frutales.

Vivienda Tradicional Agropecuaria
destinada a vivienda.

edificio consistorial, construido a finales
del siglo XIX, principios del XX.
Esta singular construcción (sede del
Ayuntamiento y en tiempo de la escuela
de la localidad) consta de dos plantas
en las que se reparten las distintas
dependencias.

No te lleves “recuerdos”
de entornos naturales o de lugares históricos.
No olvides llevar agua.

Alameda del Valle is a charming village that enjoys a privileged location, surroundedby the Arroyo de Sauca and Lozoya River and a spectacularchopera (Populus sp.).It is a river environment suitable for recreation. The visitor can observe the mountain relief that surrounds it, with the Montes Carpetanosto the North and Long Cord (Cuerda Larga) to the South, that will not leave you indifferent.
Although there are prehistoric archaeological ruins in the surroundings, the
documented history of Alameda del Valle begins in 1302 AD, when Castilian knights
founded the Valdelozoya Quiñones (a knight’s order) and they repopulated the
Sierra´s lands as another step to the re-conquest of the plateau. It belonged to the
Sexmo de Lozoya (Community and borough of Segovia), until the early Nineteenth
Century when it became part of the province of Madrid.
Since ancient times, life in Alameda del Valle has depended on the agricultural and
livestock work of its people, who have always been able to take advantage of and
preserve the natural wealth of these lands. Currently the population of Alameda
del Valle continues to work on self subsistence agriculture , livestock, and in recent
years there has been a strong increase in the tourism sector.
OurHistory
30
Alameda del Valle, like the rest of the mountainous´s towns
entity that conform the Valle Alto del Lozoya (Lozoya High
Valley), has a clear mountain farming origin, of which many
interesting vestiges remain. A tradition that has left a mark
in the mood of the local population, in the architectural and
cultural heritage and in the own configuration of the territory,
as we know it today.
After the decline of the agricultural activity, the cattle ranch
began to take a special role, observing a large number of
cattle heads today in the meadows and pastures of the
locality, mainly cows and horses. The agriculture, practically
testimonial at the present time, shows its importance in the
past in the remaining old irrigation channels, ditches, and
small orchards and fruit trees.

Traditional Agricultural Housing
Dating mostly between the 18th and 19th centuries, they are scattered throughout the town.
These are houses built of stone, on a floor and, very often, with a detached haystack. The facades of the houses lack
ornamentation and the massif predominates over the hollow. The windows were small to keep warm in the winter and
protect from the heat in the summer. The master beams were made of poplar wood and the partitions were made with
adobe.
They were dwellings in which auxiliary spaces such as the haystack, the block and the woodshed occupied more surface
than the living area. The top floor or “chamber” served as a barn.
The entrance to the agricultural stances was made through a large gate with two door leaves to be able to access with the
loaded cars.
Urban-rural housing
In Alameda del Valle there is a good representation of constructions from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century,
incorporating elements of formal architecture.
This type of housing usually has a patio in front of the house and a door of two leaves commonly iron. Mostly they are two
floors´s and attic houses .
The facades are symmetrical, with a centered access door and large windows on both sides of it. Lined with them, three
balconies on the first floor and three windows in the attic. The gable roofs and curved roof tiles usually have the eaves
topped with a brick cornice or the traditional wooden pieces .One of the rare ornaments of these buildings is the separation
of the different floors with rows of bricks. High-class houses use stone or brick blocks to reinforce building angles, as well
as doors and windows, while the more common ones simulated the effect with paint or texture changes.

Historical-artistic HeritageCHURCH OF SANTA MARINA
The parochial church of Alameda del Valle is dedicated to Santa
Marina.
There you can find the carvings of Santa Marina and Santa Ana. The
church began to be built in the XVI Century. Already in the XVIII,
several reforms were made, widening in large part in what today they
are the Sacristy and the vestibule. It was constructed in masonry and
with great ashlars in the angles of the construction. It stands out for
the imposing tower of the bell tower that protrudes of the general
height of the square floor temple. Nests of storks are an attraction of
this singular building.
CHAPEL OF SANTA ANA
About 3 km south of the city center up the road that runs parallel
to the stream of Santa Ana, we find this beautiful Chapel, in the
middle of Santa Ana hill, an extraordinary panoramic view. Today a
Romanesque image of Santa Ana from the XI-XIII century is preserved,
which is carried through the streets each July 26th in the occasion
of its celebration, a transfer that takes place in pilgrimage from the
Church to the Chapel. It is a building of romantic style, dating from
the eighteenth century, simple in structure and rectangular. It was
built in masonry without plastering.

pedagogical and cultural interest, and it treasures
extraordinary landscape and environmental values,
such as important endemisms and relict species, as
well as a set of ecosystems and habitats, unique in the
Sierra de Guadarrama.

considered the most special mountain in Madrid is an
ideal destination for scientists, hikers and the general
public who wish to visit it or simply contemplate it from

What to do in Alameda
Snow days.
Winter is a highly recommended season to visit Alameda
del Valle, offering truly beautiful landscapes, beautiful views
and a multitude of winter activities that we invite you to
enjoy.
Because of its proximity to the stations of Valdesquí and
Puerto de Navacerrada, visitors can ski a few kilometers from
our town or, if you wish, cross-country skiing in the Port of
Navafría.
From Alameda we can make the hiking routes with snowshoes
or enjoy in sled by the slopes of our surroundings.
In springtime.
After the cold winter, in springtime the days are long,
temperatures are softened and the mountain takes color. The
first flowers, the flight of birds and insects mark the beginning
that gives way to a succession of bright colors.

Springtime is perfect to walk the roads, enjoy the landscape and know
the surroundings of Alameda, its gastronomy, its rivers, slopes....
Fishing in the Lozoya river, hiking trails in our town or mountain
biking tours are good options to enjoy these beautiful landscapes in
their maximum splendor, with trees, plants and flowers of radiant colors.
Fresh in Summer.
The less suffocating temperatures, the shadows of the forests and the
breeze of the mountains make Sierra de Guadarrama and Alameda a
popular destination, highly recommended during the summer season.
The Lozoya river, as it passes through Alameda, the forest areas and
the mountain peaks, are places where we can escape from suffocating
temperatures and breathe fresh air.
Fall pick up.
The municipal term of Alameda del Valle is rich in fungi and mushrooms:
from the typical prairie fungi, such as the thistle mushroom, the
“senderuelas” and the wild mushroom, to numerous species typical of
pine forests, like the “boletus” and the “níscalo”. For the mushroom lover,
the Alto del Lozoya valley is an ideal place, also offering activities and
events related to the subject and a great variety of dishes and recipes for
the gastronomic enjoyment of neighbors and visitors.
Do not take the mushrooms you do not know. Respect small sizes. Use the material recommended for collection. And do not destroy the specimens that you will not catch, they have their function in the ecosystem.
This route is a short walk that runs parallel to the Arroyo de la Sauca creek and leads
from the county road to the Lozoya river. It takes place under a legendary chopera
(Populus sp.) with majestic specimens that allow you to meet an interesting
ecosystem of bank and old oaks.
Bridges that cross the stream, views of barns and unique houses, or the El Toril
fountain, are some of the charms of this walk, especially recommended for those
who wish to connect with a natural environment in the vicinity of the village.
In the middle of the route we find information with traditional elements of the
Old Works of the neighbors, which invites us to go back to the past in a typically
rural environment and to know some of the peculiarities of the traditional life of
the Lozoya valley. During the tour we pass by the colt, the wheel of the mill and
informative panels about the traditional architecture, the works of the forge or the
Livestock Routes; finishing at the Old Eras in the nearby region of the Lozoya river.
