Manuel Atwood, Central Decatur Guidance Counselor and NHS advisor, welcomed everyone to the induction cer- emony before introducing the key note speaker, Loring Miller, for the evening ceremony. Miller, a Central Leon High 1964 graduate and previous owner of Miller Insurance, has had a big impact on the com- munity of Leon with his endless hours of volunteering, being se- lected as one of the Prestigious Citizens of the Year as well as currently serving as the Rotary Governor for District 6000. Following Mr. Miller’s address, the new 2015-2016 in- ductees were introduced. They were: Keegan Bethards, Raegan Boothe, Cassandra Cannon, Adeline Frank, Haylee Horn, Meghan Horney, Jentri Hull- inger, Brianna Keeney, Kade Kelso, Mary Lindsey, Hannah Roberts, Justin Shields, Lillian Simon and Shawn Swanson. They join last year’s in- ductees that include: Brittany Cunningham, Victoria Ewing, Jensen Hayes, Mia Hutchinson, Peyton Pedersen and Hunter Smith. The four pillars NHS is based on are Scholarship, Char- acter, Leadership and Service. To be eligible for NHS at Central Decatur, a student must have a GPA of 3.25 as a junior, be involved in leadership and service projects in school and community, and provide evidence of outstanding char- acter by completing a lengthy application with letters of rec- ommendation. After applying, a faculty committee screens the applica- tions for membership. Eleven Attend POI Honor Choir Beth Hall, Central Decatur K-12 Choral Director, took 11 high school chorus students to the annual Pride of Iowa (POI) Conference Honor Choir held Tuesday, November 10 at Simp- son College. Around 100 students from the twelve POI Conference schools attended. Central Decatur NHS Inducts 14 New Members

On November 12, fourteen juniors joined six seniors at the induction ceremony for the Na-tional Honor Society.
