TEMA 2
SIMPLE PAST (PASADO SIMPLE)

2. Las expresiones de tiempo más comunes son: ESTRUCTURA DE PASADO SIMPLE AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES She worked at UTEPSA. Ella trabajó en UTEPSA. They had a planning meeting. Ellos tuvierón una reunión de planificación.

Financial area A company produced railway coaches and had only one product. To make each coach, the company needed to purchase $60 of raw materials and components, and pay 6 laborers $40 each. Therefore, total variable cost for each coach was $300. Knowing that making a coach required spending $300; managers knew they couldn't sell below that price without losing money on each coach. Any price above $300 became a contribution to the fixed costs of the company. If the fixed costs were, say, $1000 per month for rent, insurance and owner's salary, the company could therefore sell 5 coaches per month for a total of $3000 (priced at $600 each), or 10 coaches for a total of $4500 (priced at $450 each), and make a profit of $500 in both cases.
1. What was the variable cost for each coach? 2. What items did the variable cost include? 3. How did they define a price above $ 300?
Commercial area

It was an integrated process through which companies build strong customer relationships and create value for their customers and for themselves. Human resources is a relatively modern management term, coined in the 1960s. The origins of the function arose in organizations that introduced 'welfare management' practices and in those that adopted the principles of 'scientific management'. From these terms emerged a largely administrative management activity, coordinating a range of worker related processes and becoming known, in time as the 'personnel function'. Human resources progressively became the more usual name for this function, in the first instance in the United States as well as multinational corporations, reflecting the adoption of a more quantitative as well as strategic approach to workforce management.
1. Why the human resources are a relatively modern management term? 2. Where did the function arise in? 3. What was its commom denomination before the Human resources?
