Universitat Autnoma de Barcelona (UAB)
The Universitat Autnoma de Barcelona(UAB) is a young, dynamic institution founded in 1968,
and is among the best academic centres in Spain and Europe, both for the quality of its
teaching staff and for its excellent research. The UAB is a public funded university, with 43,000
students and over 4,200 members of staff. The university believes that training in foreign
languages is a vital part of education.
UAB Idiomes Barcelona
UAB Idiomes Barcelona is the School of Modern Languages of the UAB in Barcelona. Our school
offers a professional language teaching service to the local and international community. Ourcentre is located in an art nouveau building, UAB-Casa Convalescncia, part of a UNESCO
World Heritage Site, just a few minutes away from the centre of Barcelona. Its top quality
premises include air-conditioned classrooms equipped with the latest technology, wifi access,
learning centre and library, cafeteria and restaurant.
Our Spanish Courses
The Spanish department is made up of a team of 20 teachers with broad training in languages
and teaching. UAB Idiomes Barcelona provides Spanish courses of 4 hours a day, 20 hours aweek, running all year, with start dates every month. Students can join our courses for a
minimum of 2 weeks, although 4 weeks are required to complete a level. Class sizes: 6-15
students, average 9 students, minimum age 18.
A placement test, continuous assessment and individual tutorials are included in all our
Spanish courses. Our Spanish courses are certified by the Universitat Autnoma de Barcelona
(UAB) and are valid for university credits (ECTS European Credit Transfer System).

for Languages. Each course corresponds to 80 hours of class time.

The methodological focus of the courses at UAB Idiomes is communicative and task-based. The
basic principles of our methodology are:
The students and their needs in terms of the use of language are the central pointof our training processes, and our programs are therefore flexible so that we can
adapt to each group-class.
Promote student autonomy and teach the potential of the learning environmentoutside the classroom.
Orientate the training process towards the communicative use of language in thefour basic skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), over formal grammar
rules.
Contextualize the learning process in real situations and appropriate socio-culturalenvironments.

Initial online test and oral test in-situ to find out the starting point for eachstudent and understand their way of learning.
Assessment
Continuous assessment and the production of a personal diary to record studentslearning.
Tutorials at mid-course and at the end of the course. Final test in each course to assess competence and progress in the four basic skills,
vocabulary and grammar, and if the student is able to progress to the next level
the aspects that require most work. These results are discussed in the individual
tutorials.
Final exam for the award of a certificate. UAB Idiomes issues a certificate for thelast course taken by students and the credits obtained are recognized by all the
universities with which we have worked.

comprehensive insurance package with Europ Assistance that takes effect from the moment
you arrive in Spain until departure. Please ask us for further details.

We offer our students carefully selected host families. Accommodation is in single or twin

live less than 30 minutes from our school and they can be individuals, couples or families with
children.

gora BCN is an intercultural space for studying and living together, located 20 minutes from
our school by bus/metro. Rooms are very comfortable, with natural light, bathroom, work area

Melon District is a new model of residence hall for students with single and twin rooms with
private bathroom, a shared cooking lounge to cook, relate and relax, and a roof-top pool and

The Campus of the Universitat Autnoma de Barcelona (UAB) is located in Bellaterra. It is well
connected by motorways and the public transport network to Barcelona, only 25 km away.
Vila Universitria apartments (Available in July and August only)
Vila Universitria is the UAB Student Residence complex on Campus, built for the 92 Olympics,
and accommodating more than 2,000 guests.
Apartment: 30 m2, 1 double room (either for 2 guests or for individual use) with a bathroom, a
kitchen, and full equipment with sheets, towels and kitchen utensils.
Students staying at the Vila Universitria can also use the following facilities and services: An open air swimming pool, a beach volleyball field and a football field, available exclusively
to the guests

Insurance
EU residents should obtain a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) before travelling. All
students are advised to arrange adequate personal insurance for Spain. Our centre can arrange
comprehensive local insurance for students who have not made the necessary priorarrangements. UAB Idiomes Barcelona will not be held responsible for loss or damage to
personal property or belongings.
Visas for Spain
It is the duty of each student to ascertain the correct entry requirements for entering Spain at
their nearest Embassy or Consulate. Citizens of the EEC do not normally require visas but UAB
Idiomes Barcelona cannot accept responsibility if students are denied entry into the country.
