Desvíos de la Hipótesis de Paridad Poder de Compra y Tipo de Cambio Real de Equilibrio: Chile

El hecho de que no se cumpla la hipótesis de poder de paridad de compra (PPC) en el corto y
mediano plazo es un puzle macroeconómico bastante discutido. La evidencia para la economía
chilena sugiere que solo en el muy largo plazo es posible encontrar evidencia a favor de la de la
hipótesis de PPC. Las principales causas de estos desvíos de la ley de un solo precio serían
rigideces nominales de corto plazo, un cambio de régimen cambiario y quiebres estructurales en
el tipo de cambio real. Estos desvíos pueden tener implicancias en el cálculo del TCR de
equilibrio, por lo que entender la dinámica del TCR adquiere especial relevancia en términos de
política económica. Este trabajo estudia la dinámica del TCR, y encuentra evidencia de un
posible quiebre estructural en su trayectoria entre los años 1998 y 1999. La causa del quiebre
sería la adopción del régimen de metas de inflación con tipo de cambio flexible. Mediante la
resolución de un modelo DSGE estimado para Chile se propone una metodología alternativa
para el cálculo del TCR de equilibrio.
Análisis del Uso de Beneficios en el Seguro de Cesantía Chileno Eduardo Fajnzylber R. / Isabel Poblete H.
Este documento busca caracterizar el comportamiento de uso de los beneficios del Seguro de
Cesantía chileno. A partir de datos administrativos se observa que sólo el 35% de los individuos
elegibles solicita alguno de los beneficios que el Seguro contempla. Los resultados sugieren que
parte importante del bajo uso de los beneficios parece surgir de decisiones racionales de
agentes bien informados. No obstante, las variables que buscan medir la información disponible
muestran una correlación positiva y significativa con el comportamiento de uso del programa.

Determinantes de la Exposición Cambiaria de las Empresas Chilenas Erwin Hansen S. / Stuart Hyde
Se examina el impacto de las fluctuaciones del tipo de cambio sobre el valor de las empresas no
financieras en Chile. Utilizando un conjunto de datos detallados sobre las actividades externas y
el uso de derivados monetarios por parte de las empresas, se analizan los determinantes
potenciales de la exposición cambiaria. El riesgo cambiario depende del endeudamiento y la
tenencia de activos en moneda extranjera. Las exportaciones, en función de la especificación
utilizada, también aparecen como un factor determinante. Ni las importaciones ni el uso de
derivados monetarios explican la exposición al riesgo cambiario. Las empresas chilenas se
protegen calzando sus activos e intresos externos endeudándose en el exterior. También el nivel
de liquidez, medido a través del flujo de efectivo, reduce la exposición a las fluctuaciones del
tipo de cambio.
