SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT
“Jesus’ face shone like the sun.” Matthew 17.1
SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT: Transfiguration of the Lord was a message of encouragement and hope, in moments of doubt and during the dark moments of despair and hopelessness for the apostles. Transubstantiation in the Holy Mass is the source of our strength. In each Holy Mass, the bread and wine we offer on the Altar are changed into the crucified and risen, living body and blood of Jesus. Just as Jesus’ transfiguration strengthened the apostles in their time of trial, each Holy Mass should be our source of heavenly strength against temptations, and our renewal during Lent. In addition, our Holy Communion with the living Jesus should be the source of our daily “transfiguration,” transforming our minds and hearts so that we may do more good by humble and selfless service to others. PRAYERS FOR THE LENTEN SEASON: Lord, keep us humble so that we may not fall into the temptation to judge others. Bless us with humility so that we may never place ourselves above others. We pray to be less occupied with our own desires and more passionate about the needs of others. Amen. QUESTIONS ABOUT THE MASS: Is it permissible to receive Communion more than once a day? A norm is to receive the Lord once a day. (This avoids a previous abuse during which people would “church-hop,” going to receive Communion from many churches a day so as to become “holier.”) Occasions might arise, however, in which you find yourself celebrating at more than one Mass (for example, while attending a funeral, a wedding, a Confirmation, an occasion of special significance). Then, of course, an additional Communion is certainly approved.
LENTEN PENANCE CELEBRATIONS: All celebrations start at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 8 St. John Bosco, Brockville Sunday, March 15 St. Francis Xavier, Brockville Sunday, March 22 St. Mark’s, Prescott Sunday, March 29 Holy Cross, Kemptville
FIRST RECONCILIATION AND OUR PARISH CONFESSION: Will be held for St. John Bosco parishioners on Sunday, March 8 at 3:00 p.m. with the penitential service followed by individual confession. Parents of the First Reconciliation Candidates are encouraged to make their Reconciliation along with their child to head them to the confessional without fear.
RCIA: Please pray for our Catechumens – Sarah & Benjamin Ryan and Robert Major. They will be receiving their Baptism, Communion and Confirmation at Easter. Leah Leahy, our Candidate, will be receiving her Communion and Confirmation at Easter.
