increased in cancer especially HSATII and

ALR

The tumor suppressor protein p53 This protein

induces apoptosis of cancerous cells, impedes the proliferation of cells that have self-repairing

capacity in this way tissues can be reparated.

Using a mouse model of pancreatic, colon and lung cancer, it will be evidenced the increase of satellite repeats. the investigation team proved the importance of these DNA sequence into this malignant process.

Studies on human tumors were similar results, there were overexpression of two satellites called, HSATII and ALR.

It supposed that satellites expression begins early in tumor development.

Although actually biopsy is the principal diagnoses method, satellite RNA expression may provide better and specific biomarker of epithelial cancers.

The tumor suppressor protein p53 is activated in response to stress, such as that caused by oncogenic mutations, chemical agents.

This protein induces the death of cell which the stress has caused irreversible damage and that can become cancerous.

The study prove that stressed cells send signals to the remaining tissues in order to reduce their growth in order to allow damaged tissue to repair itself and allow the organ to grow in a coordinated manner.
