ranging rom 19 o 45 years. These istenerswere selected rom a standbygroup of about35
volunteers,mostly graduate tudents,who regularly serveas isteners or measurementsf this
kind.
The measurements ere made n a room designed or this purpose. All acoustic
characteristics f the room meet he requirements utlined n ANSI S3.19-1974. The ambient
noise evels n this room arebelow the limits specified n ANSI S3.19-1974, nd openear
thresholdsare usedon a continuingbasis o monitor the background oise evels. An automatic
recordingattenuatorwas used o recordboth open and occludedear hresholds.
Eachoften subjectswas ested hree imes at eachof nine test requencies.The attached
Tablesshow grandmeanattenuation alues n decibels dB) for each est signal along with group
attenuation alues. Standard eviations S.D.) for the 30 different attenuation eterminationsor
each est signal are also given. The resultspresentedn this reportpertain o the samples ested
only.
