¿Cómo hacer frente a la controversia de un zoo vertical?¿Cómo hacer que funcione y que sus habitantes se sientan como en casa?¿Cómo recorrerlo?

En el proyecto propuesto, el animal es el dueño del lugar y el hombre es un visitante ajeno a ese lugar, pero que a su vez es partícipe de éste, al tener la posibilidad de sumergirse en él.

Su funcionalidad y recorrido se basan en un sistema de rampas que permite al visitante estar en el mismo hábitat que los animales y poder observarlos.

El sector donde se ubica es un punto muy particular de la ciudad porque, más allá de ser una reserva natural, es aquí donde se unen naturaleza y ciudad. Llevando esta cualidad al edificio nos permite incorporar lo natural dentro de lo artificial.

La decisión de localizar la torre sobre el río responde a la búsqueda de resaltar la identidad de hito del ZOO y de obligar al visitante a recorrer y conocer la reserva hasta llegar al edificio por las sendas que confluyen en este punto.

Para que el habitante (animal) se sienta como en su casa, se crearon dos ecosistemas separados por los espacios dedicados al hombre (auditorio, SUM, café, mirador).Uno que está más relacionado con el ambiente de la reserva y otro más tropical, con un sistema de riego que simula las precipitaciones tropicales.Por último, y en lo más alto, se encuentra el aviar para que las aves se sientan en su hábitat.

El sistema de patios donde finaliza cada recorrido de los ecosistemas está pensado para que todo el ZOO sea un mirador en los distintos niveles. Se puede observar desde ellos puntos particulares del entorno mayor: RÍO-CIUDAD-RESERVA-PUERTO.

En el remate del edificio, se ubicó el mirador de 360º, para poder apreciar desde el cielo, la reserva y toda su extensión.

El desarrollo del zoo en vertical reune los tres elementos indispensables para la vida… el agua (que se encuentra en el río y las lluvias), la tierra (la cual se mete desde la reserva y sube al edificio) y el aire…. donde finalmente se encuentra las aves volando en libertad.

The project postulates the animal as owner of the place; man is just a visitor, an outsider, yet a participant at one and the same time, being given the chance to get immersed in it.

Its functionality and way of visiting it is based on a system of ramps which allows visitors to share the animals' habitat while watching them.

The area where it is located constitutes a very special spot in the city, because in addition to being a nature reserve, it is at this spot where nature and city life meet. Applying this feature to the building makes it possible to incorporate nature into a man made construction.

The decision to place the tower over the river was determined by the need to highlight the identity of the ZOO as a landmark, and to force the visitor to walk their way around the reserve up to the building through a system of paths which converge at this point.

In order to make the zoo inhabitant (the animal) feel at home, two separate ecosystems were created, divided by the spaces aimed at man (auditorium, multifunction room, café, lookout). One more related to the environment of the reserve, the other, a more tropical area, with an irrigation system simulating tropical rainfall.

Finally, in the highest position, the aviary has been placed so that birds can feel in their own habitat.

The system of courtyards at which the paths within each ecosystem end is conceived of so as to turn the whole ZOO into a lookout. From each of its levels, some specific spots from the surrounding environment can be identified: RIVER-CITY-RESERVE-HARBOR.

In the pinnacle, a 360º look out point has been placed so as to allow the view, from a height, of the reserve and its full extent.

The development of a vertical zoo brings together three elements essential to life: water (found in the river and rainfalls), earth (which gets in from the reserve and goes up into the building), and air, where the birds are finally flying in freedom.
