V CERTAMEN DE FOTOGRAFÍA DE NAVIDAD

Recordamos que se ha convocado el IV certamen de fotografía de Navi-dad. Podrán participar cuantos fotógrafos y aficionados a la fotografía lo deseen, de cualquier nacionalidad, con el único requisito de ser mayor de edad. Los participantes deberán entregar sus fotos en el Ayuntamiento antes del día 21 de diciembre. Las bases pueden ser recogidas en la re-cepción del Ayuntamiento o en la Página Web: www.competa.es Cada participante podrá entregar un máximo de tres fotografías. Habrá un úni-co premio de 150€ a la fotografía ganadora. HELP FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS The goverment team in the Town Hall of Cómpeta have freed a part of their budjet for 2014 to help the university students who do not get a grant to pay their fees. To receive this help you must visit the office for local development at the Town Hall between 10:30 a 15:00. VII TURKEY RACE 22 OF DECEMBER This test for cyclists will pass through Axarquía (Vélez-Málaga/Benamocarra/ Iznate/ Cajiz/ Algarrobo) This year the final winning line is in the Plaza Almijara of Cómpeta. The race takes place on 22 of De-cember, starting at 9:45 in the Plaza Carmelitas in Vélez, ahead the 54 Km test. The winners will recei-ve medals, and a turkey! More information in www.clubciclistaveleño.es THE TOWN HALL GETS THE NEW WELL AT CASA DE LA MINA UP AND RUNNING

The Town Hall has realised the work in relation to getting the new well up and running. This well has the capacity to produce 14 litres of wáter per second and will help to re–enforce our munici-pal water supply.

NEW FURNATURE FOR THE SCHOOL After the work that the Town Hall has done in the school over the Sum-mer ( Building ramps, painting, repai-ring the roof, improving classrooms and toilet facilities). Now we have furnished a multi use classroom. The Town Hall is dedicated to improving the infrastructure and the quality of education for our children.

NATIVITY SCENE AT THE ERMITA OF SAN AN-TON LThe Cofradía of the Borriquita (Little donkey) have created a Belén in the Ermita of San An-tón. You can visit every day from 11:00 - 20:00H. Inauguration Sunday 8th of December at 12:00H.

VISIT TO THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS IN MÁLAGA

Next Friday 20th of Decem-ber we will have a visit to the Christmas lights in Mála-ga. The cost will be 5€ when you sign up in the Town Hall. Setting off at 16:00H from the bus stop near the Tou-rist Office.

As every year, on Saturday 7 of december, we present the Christmas Market. In this market you can find everything (sweets, perfu-mes, clothes, objets of de-coration, presents and much more). HOMAGE FOR THE EIGHTEEN YEAR OLDS

As every year on the day of the day of the constitution the Town Hall pays homage to all those who have reached the age of 18 this year. It is something to remember for all young people, their coming of age with all the responsi-bilities that society attaches. This event will take place on the 6th of Decem-ber at 12:00H in the Salón de Plenos at the Town Hall. 1º COMPETITION FOR DOGS IN CÓMPETA

On the 8th of December the 1st Domestic Animal Competition in Cómpeta will take place in the Municipal Sports Centre, (Polydeportivo). There will be three main categorys:- Male, Female and Puppy. The judges will value the amimals as they parade in a line, they will judge their behavior, walk, cleanliness, pedigree… as a result of this evaluation we will present 3 prizes. (Trophy for the first and Medals for the second and third). Categorys as follows:-

We remind parents of the children of Cómpeta aged between 0—10 years to pass by the Town Hall and put your childs name on the list for a present from the Kings. And of course indicate that their good behaviour deserves a present. BELEN - NATIVITY SCENE COMPETITION

As is traditional in our locality, we open the place for inscriptions to this competition. All those interested must sign up at the Town Hall. On the 24th of December the judges will visit all the registered nativity scenes and rate them. Join in and form part of this tradition. III CHRISTMAS POETRY COMPETITION

The Town Hall has organised with the motive of Christmas the 3rd Poetry Competition for Children up to 12 years old. The poems must be handed in at the Town Hall. The theme is Christmas and Cómpeta. On-ly one entry per person. There is one prize of 100€ in school materials for the chosen winner. LETTERS FOR THE THREE KINGS

On Wednesday 2nd of January at 17:00H in the Salón de Actos at the Town Hall the “Paje Real” Royal helpers, assistants to the Three Kings will be available for all children to bring their letters and to ask for the presents that they wish for.

Common Name: Cardo Cabrero—Yellow woody thistle.

Name: Carduncellus arborescens.

Family: Thistle & Daisy family.

Distribution: Endemic to South - Southeast Spain, from Valencia to Gibralter.

Ecology: Habitat from sea level to 1000M. Found in stoney ground especially

limestone. On cliffs or banks with a warm dry climate.

Description: This type of thistle has an upright woody trunk with a bark like

texture. The plant has leaves which are glandular and hairy with pale spikes.

It has a strong unpleasant smell of goats. The thistle is conspicuous with its

huge yellow flower heads.

Flowering in May and June.
