"A young tree in the Sahel absorbs approximately 10 kilos of CO2 per year".

"Trees remove pollutants from the air and store carbon dioxide in their leaves, branches, trunks and roots. Trees also absorb sulphur dioxide nitrous oxide, two components of acid rain and

ozone. They remove dust, ash, pollen and smoke from the air and produce oxygen via photosynthesis. Research has proven that 100 trees can remove 5 tonnes of carbon dioxide from the

area every year. They can also remove more than 450 kilos of pollutants every year, including 180 kilos of ozone and 136 kilos of par ticles".

"Every year an ash tree filters: 60 mg of cadmium, 140 mg of chorine, 820 mg of nickel and 5800 mg of lead".

"A tree that shelters your house from the sun in the city will also cut pollution from fossil fuels by absorbing the same amount of CO2 as 15 forest trees".

"A single mature tree can release enough oxygen into the atmosphere to keep two human beings alive". "If every American family was a plant just one tree, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere

would be reduced by 1000 million lb. per year- 5% of the amount that human activity annually pumps into the atmosphere".

"The Tokyo municipal government regulations are currently the most advanced in terms of CO2 and heat absorption, because they oblige all post-2001 buildings with a roof terrace covering more

than 1000m 2 to convert at least 20% of this area into a green zone".

"Work by American and German universities is analysing the impact of green zones on people’s psychological and physical state. They have found that the presence of trees has an extremely

positive effect on both our mental and physical health. In contrast, people who have views across treeless urban landscapes (heat islands) suffer more frequently from fee lings of anguish, irrita-

tion, sadness and stress. A second study consisted of research by German scientists into the effects of plants on the workplace. They asked whether, apart from their aesthetic aspect and their

role in air purification, they also had has a positive psychological effect on workers. Their findings were that plants in the workplace favour overall well-being, efficiency and concentration, thus

reducing health and absentee problems caused by both acc idents and illness. Kaplan & Kaplan (1989) formulated a theory about the interaction between the human attention span and the sur-

rounding environment. Urban living, with fast vehicles, dazzling neon signs and other stimuli causes constant stress. Their research shows that vegetation and nature reinforce spontaneous atten-

tion, enabling the sensorial system to relax and inject new energy. Ulrich ( 1984) proved that hospital patients recover more quickly when they can see trees through the window".

"Trees can help to reduce crime and domestic violence. Bill Sullivan and Frances Kuo, researchers from the University of Illinois, have studied the impact of trees on the residents of social dwellings

in Chicago, and they believe that the social benefits for the inhabitants are even greater than the environmental advantages. To calibrate this, they studied a social housing condominium in

Chicago consisting of 28 architecturally identical apartment buildings. They discovered that the residents in the buildings with more trees and plants around suffered much fewer violent and prop-

er ty crimes in comparison with the buildings with little vegetation. Why? Because the areas with trees and plants encourage the residents to use and protect these types of spaces. The presence

of trees and gardens are a sign that the owners and residents appreciate these areas, that they care for them and that they care about their neighbours. Trees and gardens also help to forge

closer social links. The areas with more trees and plants are also the places of the most heavy usage by the residents. People who live closest to these areas tend to participate more in social

activities, receive more visits, know their neighbours better, and do not act as aggressively against members of the family as people who live in treeless areas. Noise in urban areas can reach

levels that are harmful for our health. Trees absorb noise, especially noise caused by high-frequency sound which is most harmful for people. Trees h elp to protect people from ultraviolet sun-

light, and thus reduce the risk of skin cancer and cataracts".

All of these descriptions are taken from a wide range of Internet pages.

We have also discovered websites that are involved in the plantation of trees in Africa, Asia and South America; websites to plant a million trees in Los Angeles,

half a million in Chicago, and an infinite number of trees via hundreds of websites for cities and towns across the United States, all privately subsidised. There are

even websites like the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX), a pioneer in environmental funding, where large corporations can invest in climate stocks and futures.

Covering a housing condominium with trees is certainly not new, but perhaps the novelty, the most positive contribution of this modest droplet, could come from

the su ggestion of obliging all the surroundings of dwellings to be gardens in the future: covering not just public areas but also private space, which are more

abundant. This private space can form up to 70% of the old quarters of cities.

Urs in Horto is the motto of Chicago, one of the cities that is most seriously concerned with environmental protection in general. It could be translated as City

in a gard en, or City in greenery, Building green or Building with greenery. Building with greenery is what disturbs us most.

Money grows on plants:

"According to a recent study by the University of Pennsylvania, when the Philadelphia City

Council planted trees alongside the houses in the Kensington district, the price of these houses

increased by 9% or $3400 per house. It was also found that people were prepared to pay 7%

more for a property with trees than another one with less trees".

"On the same side of the balance of values, the University of Washington found that con-

sumers buy more often, spend more time, and are prepared to pay more for parking and goods

in shopping centres that have trees and plants".

The only materials that interest us in this project are plants. Creepers like ampelopsis, honeysuckle, jazminoids, ivy, Virginia creepers and passionfruit form the

basis and the non-architecture of this building. The rest of the materials are compulsory: metal mesh to hold the plants and help them cling and climb; prefab.

concrete panels for the structure and partitions between the dwellings, glass frontages for the dwellings to enjoy the views of the greenery and provide the great-

est pos sible amount of light; continuous rubber flooring …. Enough!!!. We repeat, the only materials that interest us in this building are its plants:
