THE IMPORTANCE OF LAW

It is the standard of truth (Isaiah 8:20)

The Law is a transcript of the character of God; both are:

• Holy (1Peter 1:16; Romans 7:12)

• Just (John 17:25; Psalm 119:172)

• Perfect (Matthew 5:48; Psalm 19:7,8)

• Eternal (Hebrews 13:8; Psalm 111:7,8)

PERPETUITY OF THE LAW

God is eternal (Malachi 3:6)

And His Law is likewise eternal (Psalm 119:152)

Christ did not change the Law; rather

He confirmed it (Matthew 5:17, 18;

Isaiah 42:21),

Jesus mother and the disciples also kept

the Holy Law (Luke 23:56; Romans 7:22;2

(Romans 2:18, psalm 119:104, 165; Proverbs 3:21, 23, 6:23)

The true demon-station of one’s Love for God is keeping His com-

mandments (John 14:15, 21, 15:10)

The redeemed will keep the Holy Law

(Romans 2:13; Matthew 19:16,17; Revelation 14:12; 22:14; 1 John 2:3-7)

God is our helper in keeping the Law

THE HOLY LIFE

A new life begins on surrendering ourselves to God, and uniting with

His church. Great changes have been affected in our conduct, char-

acter and ideals. Before, our first interests were material things; now

we live in the attitude described by Jesus: “Seek ye first the kingdom

of heaven an His righteousness and all these things shall be added

unto you” (Matthew 6:33).

We have before us the high goal of being saints (1 Peter 1:15), for this

is God’s will for our lives (I Thessalonians 4:3-5). Every day we grow

in the knowledge of Jesus and His wonderful doctrine (2 Peter 3:18).

THE HOME LIFE

The new life will be seen in the home. Relations between husband

and wife will be governed by respect, understanding and love (Ephe-

sians 5:22-29).

The children’s education will hold a prime place of interest; the par-

ents will be firm and wise (Ephesians 6:4). The children will respond

by obeying cheerfully (Ephesians 6:1).

DAILY LIFE

The Christian life carried on not only the church, but every-

where all the time. Living like Christ is a thrilling adventure. The

Bible recommends that we should work (2 Thessalonians 3:10-12). Em-

ployers should not abuse or oppress their employees (1Thessalonians).

In regard to recreation, it should be carried out decently and in an orderly

manner (1 Corinthians 14:40), remembering that God will bring all acts

into judgment (Ecclesiastes 12:14). There is religion in our eating and

drinking: in them we can honor or dishonor God. Thus we should eat and

drink to the honor and glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). As to interper-

sonal relations, Christ ser up the excellent Golden Rule, which indicates

that what would have others to do to us, we should do to them (Matthew

7:12). It is recommended that we exercise much care in the use of the

tongue and of words (Matthew 5:37, Colossians 4:6). The authorities merit

our respect and honor (1 Peter 2:13, 14; Romans 13:1-3). don’t forget

that God is over all (acts 5:29).

What the bible teaches about the

BAPTISM

WONDERFUL RESULTS OF BAPTISM

WHAT SHOULD I DO?

MY PLEDGE

Page 77: VIAJE DE LA ESPERANZA - Inter-America

The word “baptism” comes from the Greek word which signifies “to im-

merse” or “to submerge”. Baptism is a symbol of death to a life of un-

belief, and birth into a new experience in Christ. It is a memorial of the

death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 6:3, 4). Our

Lord Jesus, though He did not need to be baptized, did it to leave us

an example (John 13:15). We are baptized following the express com-

mand of Jesus and in the name of the holy Trinity (Matthew 28:19).

WHO CAN BE BAPTIZED?

All who fulfil the required conditions? Among these are: Believe in

the Lord Jesus (Acts 8:36-38); confess sin (Proverbs 28:13); know the

doctrine (Matthew 28:20); practice the doctrine (Matthew 7:21); request

the rite of baptism (Acts 8:36). As these principles are applied, if is evi-

dent that a small child could not be baptized. But we feel a youth who

understands the doctrine could be baptized. Furthermore, any person

can be baptized who has reached the age of accountability. If we have

been baptized without our knowledge, without a full understanding or

the truth, in a wrong manner; or if we have left the truth, the Bible au-

thorized a rebaptism (Acts 19:1-5)

MODE OF BAPTISM

According to the original meaning of the word, and the custom of Jesus

and the apostles, and to fulfil its symbolic meaning, baptism should

be by immersion. Jesus “rose from the water” (Matthew 3:16)

John baptized “where there was plenty of water” (John 3:23).

The Ethiopian “went down into the water” (Acts 8:28).

ADDITIONAL STUDY

Page 78: VIAJE DE LA ESPERANZA - Inter-America

There is only one true baptism (Ephesians 4:5). Cardinal James

Gibbons said: “For some centuries after the establishment of

Christianity baptism was ordinarily administered by immer-

sion; but since the XII century in the Catholic Church the

practice of baptizing by sprinkling has prevailed”

On page 256 of Faith of Our Fathers, Mons. John Straubinger, com-

menting on a verse concerning baptism, said: “This refers to the bap-

tism of the early Christians who were baptized by immersion in water.

As Christ was buried in death, we are buried in the water of baptism.”
