Queridos amigos, Mientras rezamos nuestra Novena durante las próximas 8 semanas, los invito a estar atentos a la forma en que mu-chas cosas están conectadas. Cuando pedimos libertad y ayuda con nuestros propios "nudos", creo que nos dare-mos cuenta que otras áreas, además de lo que estamos pidiendo, son parte del proceso de ser libres. Si han inten-tado desatar una gran unión o enredo de nudos, saben a lo que me refiero. Por favor, asegúrense de incluir en su ora-ción de la Novena las cosas inesperadas que descubran, así como las intenciones de los demás- aquellos que rezan con nosotros y los que no. Por favor, tengan en cuenta la necesidad de unirnos a tra-vés de la oración con personas de todas partes. Hay situa-ciones aparentemente imposibles en nuestras familias, lugares de trabajo, nuestra parroquia, nuestros vecinda-rios, nuestra diócesis, nuestra nación, nuestra Iglesia y nuestro mundo. Dear Friends, As we pray our Novena for the next 8 weeks I invite you to stay attentive to the way many things are connected. When we ask for freedom from and help with our own “knots” I think we will notice that other areas, besides what we are asking about, are part of the process of be-coming free. If you’ve tried to untie a large snarl or tan-gle of knots, you know what I mean. Please make a point to include in your prayer of the Novena the unexpected things you discover and also the intentions of others—those who are praying with us and those who aren’t. Please also keep in mind the need for uniting ourselves by prayer with people everywhere. There are seemingly impossible situations in our families, our workplaces, our parish, our neighborhoods, our Diocese, our Nation, our Church and our world. Praying, as we are, the Novena each day, we have more opportunities to commend many needs to Our Lord through her hands. One worthy intention which brings me hope and encour-ages me to pray is found in Nicaragua. As you may know, for the past year or more there have been great tensions in Nicaragua for a number of political reasons. Ask anyone you know from there to explain it for you. They are, of course, very concerned. A good number of our parishioners are from Nicaragua or have relatives there. My priest friend from there (who recently visited us) has been reporting to me that there is a new hopeful-ness throughout his homeland because the Bishops of Nicaragua asked for the visit of a special Pilgrim Virgin of Fatima. The image is currently being welcomed by people in every Diocese and many parishes. Recently she came to my friend’s remote parish of San Isidro in Aya-pal. Padre Carlos told me that there has been an enthusi-astic and hopeful welcome, people lining the streets, and many confessions. Can Our Lady bring peace to Nicara-gua? They believe so. I do too. 2020 Bishop’s Lenten Appeal This weekend every family in our parish will be asked to complete a Bishop’s Lenten Appeal (BLA) pledge form at Mass. If you have already donated through the mail or online or are not able to participate, there will be places to note that on the form. Dear St. Anthony Family, As we prepare for the Lenten season, it sometimes feels like winter, or sometimes more like an early spring; in our school I feel it is always a joy filled time, but also a season requiring diligent work, and a resolve to good things. It is joyous for me to report that our middle school students have worked hard on their Science Fair projects. They have worked diligently since the fall on their projects learning about the scientific research, collecting data and ana-lyzing their results. At the school fair, students gave a short oral presentation to judges on their experi-ment, complete with a backboard, log book and abstract. Congratulations to the following winners who will participate in the diocesan Science and STEM Fair in April: Science Fair team will be Francesca Copley-Earth & Space, Louisa Geiger-Biochemistry, Matthew Garrido-Nag-Biochemistry, Sebastian Argote-Chemistry, and Nathan Covarrubias-Mathematics. The STEM team will be Alex Silos, Greydon Stuber, Maria Wise, Charlotte Lawler, and Hanna Richards. As we prepare for Lent, Saint Paul brings to mind,"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." - Galatians 6:9

Lenten Regulations on Fasting and Abstinence Abstinence-Everyone older than 14 years of age is bound to observe the law of abstinence. Abstinence is to be observed on all Fridays within the season of Lent and on Ash Wednes-day.

Fasting-On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, everyone over 18 and up to the beginning of their 60th year also is bound to observe the law of fast. On these two days only one full meat-less meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal.

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, therefore, are the only days of both fast and abstinence.

Cenas Sencillas Durante la Cuaresma

Los Caballeros de Colón te invitan cordial-mente a una Cena Sencilla los viernes, de 7:00-9:00 pm en la cafetería de la escuela, con sopas sin carne y panes a partir del 6 de

marzo. Todos son bienvenidos. Por favor traiga a sus amigos y familiares. ¡La comida es gratis para todos! Se aceptan contribuciones de alimentos sin carne.

Regulaciones cuaresmales sobre el ayuno y la abstinencia Abstinencia-La ley de abstinencia exige a un católico de 14 años de edad, respetar la ley de la abstinencia de comer car-ne. Esta abstinencia se debe observar todos los viernes den-tro de la temporada de Cuaresma y el Miércoles de Ceniza. Ayuno-El Miércoles de Ceniza y el Viernes Santo, todos los mayores de 18 años y hasta el comienzo de sus 60 también deben respetar la ley del ayuno. En esos dos días solo una comida completa sin carne es permitida. De acuerdo a las necesidades de cada persona y para mantener energía y fuer-za, se pueden ingerir otras dos comidas sin carne; sin embar-go, juntas no deberían equivaler a otra comida completa. Por lo tanto, el Miércoles de Ceniza y el Viernes Santo, son los únicos días de ayuno y abstinencia.
