De origen bereber, los árabes en- contraron en Torre Alháquime un entorno muy similar al de sus tie- rras, las zonas montañosas del norte de África. Aunque antaño era conocida como Gérmina, cuyo significado es "lugar de descan- so", posteriormente su nombre cambiaría y nacería de la unión de dos palabras, la primera de origen romance "Torre" y la segunda, perteneciente al propio árabe "Al-haquim" (sabio). Esta locali- dad ha estado siempre muy mar- cada por la presencia de conoci- dos bandoleros -Currillo El Largo, El Vivillo, Cencerrito, Chorizito y José María El Tempranillo- que protagonizaron algunos de los ca- pítulos más despiadados de su historia y cuyas aventuras y des- venturas fueron contadas por los romances populares. Pequeña población situada en el extremo nororiental de la provin- cia, en plena sierra, limita al norte y al oeste con Olvera, al sur con Setenil de las Bodegas, y al este con Alcalá del Valle. La zona en que se erige constituye la transi- ción entre la Depresión de Ronda y la Sierra Subbética, formada por un conjunto de lomas y cerros re- dondeados, en uno de los cuales, aprovechando sus zonas menos accidentadas, se asienta el núcleo urbano de Torre Alháquime . Declarado como Bien de Interés Cultural, su conjunto histórico está formado por callejuelas arracima- das al amparo de blancas casas en torno a la antigua fortaleza nazarí. A su vez, cuenta con uno de los pai- sajes naturales más impresionan- tes de la serranía, los cuales se di- bujan a través de una sucesión de collados y colinas de perfiles re- dondeados que se asientan sobre una vegetación típicamente medi- terránea en la que las encinas, quejigos y retamas colorean su na- turaleza. Situado al norte de la Sierra de Grazalema, se puede dis- frutar de sus vistas y tomar boca- nadas del aire más puro, además de poner en práctica actividades como la pesca, el senderismo, las rutas a caballo o en bicicleta y el vuelo en ala delta o parapente. Además de ser un paraje natural de indiscutible belleza, Torre Alháquime también despunta por su refinada gastronomía. Sus es- pecialidades más típicas son los revueltos y los guisos de espárra- gos, aunque las delicatessen no se terminan ahí ya que oferta una amplia variedad de platos con los que saciar los paladares más exi- gentes. Caracoles, tagarninas, manitas de cerdo son sólo algu- nos ejemplos de una cocina he- cha con el mimo de antaño y ela- borada con los mejores ingredien- tes sacados de los huertos de la sierra gaditana. Torre Alháquime Patrimonio Histórico Historical Heritage Sehenswürdigkeiten El casco antiguo de la localidad está formado por numerosas calles arracimadas, de blancas casas, en torno a la antigua fortaleza nazarí (siglos XIII-XIV) de la que se conservan torreones y puertas de acceso. Otros puntos de interés son la iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Antigua que data del s.XVIII, de planta neoclásica y fachada barroca; el ayunta- miento, un edificio actual que ha incorporado elementos históricos como el Arco de la villa; y el monumento al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, situado en la emblemática plaza de entrada. Also worthy of mention are the local chacinas (preserved pork pro- ducts) and sausages, the chick-peas and anise seeds, the olive oil, the melons and the watermelons - famous throughout the region - as well as home-made sweets like pastries, torrijas (fried bread with honey and cinnamon), roscos (ring- shaped cakes), pestiños (fried pastries with honey), cupcakes, dulces de cidra (citron sweets), suspiros (little cakes made of flour, egg and sugar), mostachones (almond macaroons), almond cakes, hornazos (Easter cakes with eggs inside), and fried cakes with honey or gachas (a pudding made with vetch). En carnaval es famosa su Chorizada. De su Semana Santa son especialmente curiosas la "Carrerita de San Juan" (Domingo de Resurrección) y el "Encuentro de las Tres Imágenes". Para preparar el Corpus se engalanan calles y casas con el "encalijo". El 24 de junio se celebra la romería de San Juan. La Feria de San Roque, patrón de la localidad, se celebra en agosto. Ese mismo mes, y junto al río Guadalporcún, se organiza un festival musical y una prueba motociclista enduro. Ya en octubre contamos con otra prueba deporti- va, esta vez automovilística, la subida Torre Alháquime-Los Remedios. The local Carnival celebration is famous for its "Chorizada" (sausage barbecue). Of special interest during Holy Week are the "Carrerita de San Juan" (San Juan Race) which takes place on Easter Sunday and the "Encuentro de las Tres Imágenes" (Meeting of the Three Images). In preparation for Corpus Christi, the houses and stre- ets are decked out with "encalijo" (whitewashing). The pilgrimage of San Juan is celebrated on 24th June while the fair of San Roque, the town's patron saint, takes place in August. A music festival and an enduro motorcycle competition are also held in August near the Guadalporcún river. Mención especial merecen sus chacinas y embutidos, los garbanzos yla matalahúga, el aceite, los melones y sandías, famosas en toda la comarca,y los dulces caseros como empanadillas, torrijas, roscos, pestiños, magdale-nas, dulces de cidra, suspiros, mostachones, tortas de almendra, hornazos,tortas fritas con miel o gachas.
Torre Alháquime's gastronomic specialities include revueltos (a type of scram-bled eggs), asparagus soups and stews, cocido torreño (Torre Alháquime-stylechick-pea stew), game meat, gazpacho (cold tomato, onion and pepper soup),potajes de tagarninas (thistle stews), escargot, manitas de cerdo (pig's feet) andtomato soups. Also worthy of mention are the local chacinas (preserved pork pro-ducts) and sausages, the chick-peas and anise seeds, the olive oil, the melonsand the watermelons - famous throughout the region - as well as home-madesweets like pastries, torrijas (fried bread with honey and cinnamon), roscos (ring-shaped cakes), pestiños (fried pastries with honey), cupcakes, dulces de cidra(citron sweets), suspiros (little cakes made of flour, egg and sugar), mostachones(almond macaroons), almond cakes, hornazos (Easter cakes with eggs inside),and fried cakes with honey or gachas (a pudding made with vetch).
Typische Gerichte in Torre Alháquime sind Rührei, Suppen und Eintöpfe mitSpargeln, der Eintopf "Cocido torreño", Wildfleisch, "Gazpacho" (kalte Suppe),Golddisteleintöpfe, Schnecken, Schweinsfüße und Tomatensuppen. Besonderszu erwähnen sind sein Pökelfleisch und seine Wurstwaren, die Kichererbsen unddie Anisart "matalahúga", das Olivenöl, seine im ganzen Landkreis bekanntenMelonen und Wassermelonen und die vielen hausgemachten Gebäcksorten wie"Empanadillas", "Torrijas", "Roscos", "Pestiños", "Magdalenas", "Dulces decidra", "Suspiros", "Mostachones", "Tortas de almendra", "Hornazos","Tortas fritas con miel" oder "Gachas".
En carnaval es famosa su Chorizada. De su Semana Santa son especialmentecuriosas la "Carrerita de San Juan" (Domingo de Resurrección) y el"Encuentro de las Tres Imágenes". Para preparar el Corpus se engalanancalles y casas con el "encalijo". El 24 de junio se celebra la romería de SanJuan. La Feria de San Roque, patrón de la localidad, se celebra en agosto. Esemismo mes, y junto al río Guadalporcún, se organiza un festival musical y unaprueba motociclista enduro. Ya en octubre contamos con otra prueba deporti-va, esta vez automovilística, la subida Torre Alháquime-Los Remedios.
The local Carnival celebration is famous for its "Chorizada" (sausage barbecue). Ofspecial interest during Holy Week are the "Carrerita de San Juan" (San Juan Race)which takes place on Easter Sunday and the "Encuentro de las Tres Imágenes"(Meeting of the Three Images). In preparation for Corpus Christi, the houses and stre-ets are decked out with "encalijo" (whitewashing). The pilgrimage of San Juan iscelebrated on 24th June while the fair of San Roque, the town's patron saint, takesplace in August. A music festival and an enduro motorcycle competition are alsoheld in August near the Guadalporcún river. Another sporting competition is organi-sed in October - this time for cars: the Torre Alháquime-Los Remedios Climb.

In Vorbereitung auf das Fronleichnamsfest werden Straßen undHäuser mit dem "encalijo", also einer neuen Kalkfassade, geschmückt. Am 24.Juni findet die Wallfahrt zu Ehren des Heiligen San Juan statt. Das Volksfest Feriade San Roque, des Schutzheiligen der Ortschaft, findet im August statt. Ebenfallsin diesem Monat werden am Fluss Guadalporcún ein Musikfestival und ein Enduro-Motorradrennen veranstaltet. Im Oktober findet mit der "Subida Torre Alháquime-Los Remedios" ein weiteres Rennen statt, wobei es diesmal um Autos geht.
In Torre Alháquime, the Moors, whowere of Berber origin, discoveredan area reminiscent of their home-land in the mountainous regions ofNorth Africa. Although in the pastthe village was known as Gérmina -which means "place of rest" - itsname would later change to a deri-vation of two words: the first,"Torre" (tower), of Latin origins,and the second, "Al-haquim", anArabic word meaning "wise".
This locality has always been mar-ked by the presence of famous ban-dits - Currillo El Largo, El Vivillo,Cencerrito, Chorizito and JoséMaría El Tempranillo - who perpe-trated some of the most cold-bloo-ded episodes in the town's historyand whose adventures and misad-ventures have been remembered inthe popular romantic tales.
