Parashat Yom Rishon shel rosh HaShanah Genesis 1:1-2:3

Parashat Yom Rishon shel rosh HaShanah is a special parashat read for Rosh HaShanah to commemorate the beginning of a new year. In the beginning the earth was unformed, and there was only darkness. Then God commanded, “Let there be light,” and saw how good it was. swim in the seas. And God saw how good it was and ordered them to be “fruitful and increase.” On the sixth day Go created all the beasts of the earth. Seeing it was good, God then decided to create human beings. God said: “I will make Adam in My image, after My likeness.” God created male and female human beings and commanded them to “rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the cattle, the whole earth.” God also blessed them and told them to “be fruitful and increase.” And God saw that it was very good. When heaven and earth were finished, God rested and declared that the seventh day of each week should be set aside as a Sabbath, a day of rest. God blessed the Sabbath and called it kodesh, which means “holy” or “unique.” S WEEK AT TEMPLE ISRAEL

New Virtual Onegs from Women of Temple Israel

Are you missing gathering with friends at the onegs following Shabbat services? Our WTI onegs provided an important way to meet and renew our friendships as well as raising funds. We have a way you can sponsor an oneg to celebrate or honor loved ones for our virtual services. 1. Make a $40 donation to WTI for a specific Shabbat service (down from $45.) 2. Contact WTI Treasurer Rose Schoenfeld to reserve your date, 321-622-6454, or [email protected]. 3. Join the service on Zoom and light the candles. Rabbi Hickman will work out the details with you. 4. At the end of the service you will be honored for contributing the Oneg. We hope to have a colorful illustration of the virtual foods you want to share. We will work with you to create an illustration of these foods.

Please sponsor an oneg and contact Rose Schoenfeld!

Sharing and Caring Sadly, the Temple Israel of Brevard family has not escaped COVID-19. As a

congregation, we are coming together to support those that have lost family to the disease, those who have family fighting the disease, and now we are doing our part to aid

those that are fighting the disease or may have been exposed to the disease.

“Get Well” bags are now being sent to those members of the congregation that are having to stay home due to a possible exposure to COVID-19, and those that have tested positive

for COVID-19. Thank you to the generous contributions of the Men’s Club towards purchasing activities and distractions to include in the goodie bags. Thank you to the ongoing work by the Women of Temple Israel for supplying masks. Thank you to the Rabbi for her many prayers and phone calls. Thank you to the Caring Chavurah for

making deliveries to those that have to stay home.

If you or someone you know is having to isolate because of a possible COVID-19 exposure or is fighting the disease, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the temple at

[email protected]. If you would like to support the temple’s efforts, please email or call the office using the information listed on the bottom of this page.
