Our MissionThe thing that makes Camp Tekoa Special is our Mission: Touching Hearts, Changing Lives and Sharing the Light of Christ. Campers will experience our mission throughout their time at camp. Each morning, campers reflect on God’s beauty at morning watch. High School campers repair homes in our community. Day Campers may visit a nursing home. Each week, we support a mission project through donations. Join the mission and have your life changed!

Our History

Tekoa was founded in 1949 as the

Western North Carolina Conference Camp

of the United Methodist Church under

the direction of the late Rev. Carl H. King.

It was named for the hometown of Amos,

an Old Testament prophet, and exists

so that all who come here will become

prophets of God, sharing the Good News

of God’s love through Jesus Christ!

Many parents ask, “What kind of staff do

you hire?” It is important for us to hire

the most qualified individuals to work with

your children. All staff are hired with the

understanding that Tekoa is a place where

acceptance, trust, servanthood, and faith

become real in the lives of everyone at

camp. Through our mission statement, this

understanding and goal is shared by our staff:

We specifically seek out individuals who

have a strong desire to work in an outdoor

setting and are excited about making a

positive difference in campers’ lives. All

staff are required to complete a thorough

application and interview, provide personal

references and clear a national criminal

background check. Additional Information

and applications can be found at:

Summer Staff Touching Hearts, Changing Lives,

and Sharing the Light of Christ!

activities such as paddle-boating, water

games, field games, swimming, tree

climb, four-square, fishing, lake zipline,

and Song & S’more night. Campers

popular four-square! Elements and

Mini Camp for 7-9 year old (9 sessions)

is a great start for a child who has never

attended an overnight camp because it

is only half of a week. Activities are the

same as week-long elementary overnight

camp and are geared with group

interaction in mind.

Mini Camp for 10-11 year old. (offered

week 1 & week 9) Summers can be

very busy for families. This is a great

camp opportunity for those who want

a fun overnight experience without

committing to the entire week. Campers

will participate in activities directed at the

older elementary age range.

Campers who register for both sessions in

the same week must be picked up during

Wednesday morning check-out and returned

Barnabas camps are designed for adults with developmental disabilities.

Barnabas is known for showing great kindness to Saul (apostle Paul) and his

Hebrew name translates to “son of encouragement.” We hope to extend

such encouragement and kindness to our Barnabas campers just as they

encourage us. Barnabas campers are to be ambulatory and must be

able to feed, bathe, and clothe themselves.
