Seeking the Lost

Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle C)

Exodus 32:7-11, 13-14 Psalm 51:3-4,12-13,17, 19 1 Timothy 1:12-17 Luke 15:1-10

The episode in today's First Reading has been called "Israel's original sin." Freed from bondage, born as a people of God in the covenant at Sinai, Israel turned aside from His ways, fell to worshipping a golden calf.

Moses implores God's mercy, as Jesus will later intercede for the whole human race, as He still pleads for sinners at God's right hand and through the minis-try of the Church.

Israel's sin is the sin of the world. It is your sin and mine. Ransomed from death and made His children in Baptism, we fall prey to the idols of this world. We remain a "stiff-necked people," resisting His will for us like an ox refuses the plowman's yoke . Like Israel, in our sin we push God away, reject our di-vine sonship. Once He called us "my people" (see Exodus 3:10; 6:7). But our sin makes us "no people," people He should, in justice, disown (see Deuteronomy 32:21; 1 Peter 2:10).

Yet in His mercy, He is faithful to the covenant He swore by His own self in Jesus. In Jesus, God comes to Israel and to each of us - as a shepherd to seek the lost (see Ezekiel 34:11-16), to carry us back to the heavenly feast, the perpetual heritage promised long ago to Abraham's children.

"Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners," Paul cries in today's Epistle. These are the happiest words the world has ever known. Because of Jesus, as Paul himself can testify, even the blasphemer and persecutor can seek His mercy.

As the sinners do in today's Gospel, we draw near to listen to Him. In this Eucharist, we bring Him the acceptable sacrifice we sing of in today's Psalm - our hearts, humbled and contrite.

In the company of His angels and saints, we rejoice that He has wiped out our offense, celebrate with Him - that we have turned from the evil way that we might live (see Ezekiel 18:23).

Oremos por los Enfermos

Reflexión

El evangelio de hoy es largo, recoge tres parábolas y en todas, queda reflejado el amor de Dios por sus criaturas.

Ante las criticas de los fariseos y escribas que no ven con buenos ojos la relación de Jesús con los pecadores, Él que conoce bien a Dios, no se esconde, si no que con valentía les habla de cómo se comporta con sus hijos un buen padre.

En la primera parábola vemos como el pastor que conoce y ama a sus ovejas sale en busca de la que se marcha. No le importa que haya pecado, que ande perdida, para Él es importante.

En la segunda parábola cuando perdemos algo, en este caso una moneda, buscamos y cuando lo encontramos sentimos alegría y lo compartimos con las personas más cercanas.

Por último, utiliza la hermosa parábola del hijo Prodigo. ¿Cuántos hijos se marchan, gastan lo que tienen y al final vuelven al hogar? Los padres con todo amor lo acogen y le dan su lugar y cariño.

Con estas parábolas, Jesús nos recuerda la confianza, el amor y el abrazo que nunca hemos perdido, por mucho que nos hayamos alejados del Padre. El amor de Dios es acogedor, nos acepta como somos y desea siempre nuestra felicidad.

Los que formamos la Iglesia dejamos de lado a los que creemos alejados, los que no practican o son de distintas creencias. Si realmente conoce-mos a Jesús y lo amamos tenemos que aprender a acoger, comprender, empatizar y amar sin ningún tipo de reservas, porque ante Dios todos somos iguales.

Ngày ấy, Đức Chúa phán với ông Mô-sê rằng: "Hãy đi xuống, vì dân ngươi đã hư hỏng rồi, dân mà ngươi đã đưa lên từ đất Ai-cập. Chúng đã vội đi ra ngoài con đường Ta truyền cho chúng đi. Chúng đã đúc một con bê, rồi sụp xuống lạy nó, tế nó và nói: "Hỡi Ít-ra-en, đây là thần của ngươi đã đưa ngươi lên từ đất Ai-cập." Đức Chúa lại phán với ông Mô-sê: "Ta đã thấy dân này rồi, đó là một dân cứng đầu cứng cổ. Bây giờ cứ để mặc Ta, cứ để cơn thịnh nộ của Ta bừng lên phạt chúng, và Ta sẽ tiêu diệt chúng. Nhưng Ta sẽ làm cho ngươi thành một dân lớn."

Ông Mô-sê cố làm cho nét mặt Đức Chúa, Thiên Chúa của ông, dịu lại. Ông thưa: "Lạy Đức Chúa, tại sao Ngài lại bừng bừng nổi giận với dân Ngài, dân mà Ngài đã giơ cánh tay mạnh mẽ uy quyền đưa ra khỏi đất Ai-cập? Xin Ngài nhớ đến các tôi tớ Ngài là Áp-ra-ham, I-xa-ác và Ít-ra-en; Ngài đã lấy chính danh Ngài mà thề với các vị ấy rằng: Ta sẽ làm cho dòng dõi các ngươi đông đúc như sao trên trời, và sẽ ban cho dòng dõi các ngươi tất cả miền đất ấy, là miền đất Ta đã hứa; chúng sẽ được thừa hưởng miền đất ấy đến muôn đời." Đức Chúa đã thương, không giáng phạt dân Người như Người đã đe.

BÀI ĐỌC 2: 1 Tm 1:12-17 Lời Chúa trong thư thứ nhất của thánh Phao-lô tông đồ gửi ông Ti-mô-thê.

Anh thân mến, tôi tạ ơn Đức Ki-tô Giê-su, Chúa chúng ta, Đấng đã ban sức mạnh cho tôi, vì Người đã tín nhiệm mà gọi tôi đến phục vụ Người. Trước kia, tôi là kẻ nói lộng ngôn, bắt đạo và ngạo ngược, nhưng tôi đã được Người thương xót, vì tôi đã hành động một cách vô ý thức, trong lúc chưa có lòng tin. Đức Ki-tô Giê-su, Chúa chúng ta, đã ban cho tôi đầy tràn ân sủng, cùng với đức tin và đức mến của một kẻ được kết hợp với Người. Đây là lời đáng tin cậy và đáng mọi người đón nhận: Đức Ki-tô Giê-su đã đến thế gian, để cứu những người tội lỗi, mà kẻ đầu tiên là tôi. Sở dĩ tôi được thương xót, là vì Đức Giê-su Ki-tô muốn tỏ bày tất cả lòng đại lượng của Người nơi tôi là kẻ đầu tiên, mà đặt tôi làm gương cho những ai sẽ tin vào Người, để được sống muôn đời. Kính dâng Vua muôn thuở là Thiên Chúa bất diệt, vô hình và duy nhất, kính dâng Người danh dự và vinh quang đến muôn thuở muôn đời. A-men.

Trong Đức Ki-tô, Thiên Chúa đã cho thế gian được hòa giải với Người, và giao cho chúng tôi công bố lời hoà giải. Ha-lê-lui-a.

PHÚC ÂM: Lc 15:1-32

Tin Mừng Chúa Giêsu Kitô theo thánh Lu-ca.

Các người thu thuế và các người tội lỗi đều lui tới với Đức Giê-su để nghe Người giảng. Thấy vậy, những người Pha-ri-sêu và các kinh sư bèn xầm xì với nhau: "Ông này đón tiếp phường tội lỗi và ăn uống với chúng." Đức Giê-su mới kể cho họ dụ ngôn này:

"Người nào trong các ông có một trăm con chiên mà bị mất một con, lại không để chín mươi chín con kia ngoài đồng ho-ang, để đi tìm cho kỳ được con chiên bị mất? Tìm được rồi, người ấy mừng rỡ vác lên vai. Về đến nhà, người ấy mời bạn bè, hàng xóm lại, và nói: 'Xin chung vui với tôi, vì tôi đã tìm được con chiên của tôi, con chiên bị mất đó.' Vậy, tôi nói cho các ông hay: trên trời cũng thế, ai nấy sẽ vui mừng vì một người tội lỗi ăn năn sám hối, hơn là vì chín mươi chín người công chính không cần phải sám hối ăn năn.

"Hoặc người phụ nữ nào có mười đồng quan, mà chẳng may đánh mất một đồng, lại không thắp đèn, rồi quét nhà, moi móc tìm cho kỳ được? Tìm được rồi, bà ấy mời bạn bè, hàng xóm lại, và nói: 'Xin chung vui với tôi, vì tôi đã tìm được đồng quan tôi đã đánh mất.' Cũng thế, tôi nói cho các ông hay: giữa triều thần Thiên Chúa, ai nấy sẽ vui mừng vì một người tội lỗi ăn năn sám hối."

Rồi Đức Giê-su nói tiếp: "Một người kia có hai con trai. Người con thứ nói với cha rằng: 'Thưa cha, xin cho con phần tài sản con được hưởng.' Và người cha đã chia của cải cho hai con. Ít ngày sau, người con thứ thu góp tất cả rồi trẩy đi phương xa. Ở đó anh ta sống phóng đãng, phung phí tài sản của mình.

"Khi anh ta đã ăn tiêu hết sạch, thì lại xảy ra trong vùng ấy một nạn đói khủng khiếp. Và anh ta bắt đầu lâm cảnh túng thiếu, nên phải đi ở đợ cho một người dân trong vùng; người này sai anh ta ra đồng chăn heo. Anh ta ao ước lấy đậu muồng heo ăn mà nhét cho đầy bụng, nhưng chẳng ai cho. Bấy giờ anh ta hồi tâm và tự nhủ: 'Biết bao nhiêu người làm công cho cha ta được cơm dư gạo thừa, mà ta ở đây lại chết đói! Thôi, ta đứng lên, đi về cùng cha và thưa với người: 'Thưa cha, con thật đắc tội với Trời và với cha, chẳng còn đáng gọi là con cha nữa. Xin coi con như một người làm công cho cha vậy.' Thế rồi anh ta đứng lên đi về cùng cha.

"Anh ta còn ở đằng xa, thì người cha đã trông thấy. Ông chạnh lòng thương, chạy ra ôm cổ anh ta và hôn lấy hôn để. Bấy giờ người con nói rằng: 'Thưa cha, con thật đắc tội với Trời và với cha, chẳng còn đáng gọi là con cha nữa ...' Nhưng người cha liền bảo các đầy tớ rằng: 'Mau đem áo đẹp nhất ra đây mặc cho cậu, xỏ nhẫn vào ngón tay, xỏ dép vào chân cậu, rồi đi bắt con bê đã vỗ béo làm thịt để chúng ta mở tiệc ăn mừng! Vì con ta đây đã chết mà nay sống lại, đã mất mà nay lại tìm thấy.' Và họ bắt đầu ăn mừng.

"Lúc ấy người con cả của ông đang ở ngoài đồng. Khi anh ta về gần đến nhà, nghe thấy tiếng đàn ca nhảy múa, liền gọi một người đầy tớ ra mà hỏi xem có chuyện gì. Người ấy trả lời: 'Em cậu đã về, và cha cậu đã làm thịt con bê béo, vì gặp lại cậu ấy mạnh khoẻ.' Người anh cả liền nổi giận và không chịu vào nhà. Nhưng cha cậu ra năn nỉ. Cậu trả lời cha: 'Cha coi, đã bao nhiêu năm trời con hầu hạ cha, và chẳng khi nào trái lệnh, thế mà chưa bao giờ cha cho lấy được một con dê con để con ăn mừng với bạn bè. Còn thằng con của cha đó, sau khi đã nuốt hết của cải của cha với bọn điếm, nay trở về, thì cha lại giết bê béo ăn mừng!'

"Nhưng người cha nói với anh ta: 'Con à, lúc nào con cũng ở với cha, tất cả những gì của cha đều là của con. Nhưng chúng ta phải ăn mừng, phải vui vẻ, vì em con đây đã chết mà nay lại sống, đã mất mà nay lại tìm thấy.'"

Đó là Lời Chúa. CĐ: Lạy Chúa Kitô, ngợi khen Chúa.
