The Silver Rose La Rosa de Plata

Share the messaged of Our Lady of Guadalupe and promote respect for life. The Silver Rose program shows the unity between the Knights of Columbus in Cana‐da, the United States and Mexico, through prayer services promoting the digni‐ty of all human life and honoring Our Lady.

For 60 years, the Silver Rose has traveled from Canada to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, in Mexico City, Mexico. The Silver Rose is now in Nebraska, and will be on display at St. Ann’s Church on Au‐gust 22nd for all the Sunday Masses.

Comparta el mensaje de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe y promueva el respeto por la vi‐da. El programa Silver Rose, o Rosa de Plata, muestra la unidad entre los Caba‐lleros de Colón en Canadá, Estados Unidos y México, a través de servicios de oración que promueven la dignidad de toda la vida humana y honran a Nuestra Señora.

Pastor’s Pen: This reflection from Scott Hahn is a great reminder of who we are as Catholics! This Sunday’s Mass readings conclude a four‐week meditation on the Eucharist. The Twelve Apostles in today’s Gospel are asked to make a choice—either to believe and accept the New Covenant He offers in His Body and Blood or return to their former ways of life. Their choice is prefigured by the decision Joshua asks the Twelve Tribes to make in today’s First Reading. Joshua gathers them at Shechem—where God first appeared to their father Abraham promising to make his descendants a great nation in a new land (see Genesis 12:1–9). And he issues a blunt challenge: either renew their covenant with God or serve the alien gods of the surrounding na‐tions. We too are being asked today to decide whom we will serve. For four weeks we have been pre‐sented in the liturgy with the mystery of the Eucharist—a daily miracle far greater than those performed by God in bringing the Israelites out of the land of Egypt. He has promised us a new homeland and eternal life, offer‐ing us bread from heaven to strengthen us on our journey. He has told us that unless we eat His Flesh and drink His Blood we will have no life in us.

¡Esta reflexión de Scott Hahn es un gran recordatorio de quiénes somos como católicos! Laslecturas de la misa de este domingo concluyen una me‐ditación de cuatro semanas sobre la Eucaristía.

A los Doce Apóstoles del Evangelio de hoy se les pide que tomen una decisión: creer y aceptar la Nueva Alianza que Él ofrece en Su Cuerpo y Sangre o regresar a sus formas de vida anteriores. Su elección está prefigurada por la decisión que Josué pide a las Doce Tribus que tomen en la Primera Lectura de hoy. Josué los reúne en Siquem, donde Dios se apareció por primera vez a su padre Abraham prome‐tiéndole que haría de sus descendientes una gran nación en una nueva tierra (véase Génesis 12: 1–9). Y lanza un desafío contundente: o renuevan su pacto con Dios o sirven a los dioses extra‐ños de las naciones circundantes. A nosotros también se nos pide hoy que decidamos a quién serviremos.
