This paper deals with an adaptivefrequency-based power sharing method between batteries andultracapacitors (UC) as power sources within an electric vehicle. Anadaptive frequency splitter is used for routing the low-frequency content ofpower demand into the battery and its high-frequency content into the UCsystem, taking profit from the UC as a peak power unit. Autonomy maythus be increased while preserving battery state of health and ensuringthat UC voltage variations remain confined within certain desired range.Results obtained by real-time experiments on a dedicated test rig validatethe proposed energy management approach and recommend it to beapplied as power source coordination method to microgrids in general.

Unsafe lane change maneuvers are key factor fortraffic accidents and traffic congestion. For drivers’ safety, comfort andconvenience, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are presented.The main problem discussed in this paper is the development of anautonomous lane change system. The system can be extended applied inintelligent vehicles in future. It solves two crucial issues – trajectoryplanning and trajectory tracking. Polynomial method was adopted fordescribing the trajectory planning issue. Movement of a host vehicle wasabstracted into time functions. Moreover, collision detection was mappedinto a parameter space by adopting infinite dynamic circles. The secondissue was described by backstepping principle. According to the Lyapunovfunction, a tracking controller with global convergence property wasverified. Both the simulations and the experimental results demonstrate thefeasibility and effectiveness of the designed method for autonomous lanechange.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is asystem that maintains driver-selected speed and headway to a preceding vehicle. The system presents somelimitations that are, in part or totally, unknown to the users. Hence, many drivers exhibit a rudimentary mentalmodel of the system and place excessive trust in the device. As a consequence, negative effects on roadsafety can easily occur. However, to date, many studies conducted on ACC have comprised participants whohad never used ACC previously. Therefore, there is limited knowledge of how ACC affects the drivingperformance of experienced users of the system. To shed light on this point, twenty-six participants, dividedinto two groups (ACC users and non-users) drove twice in the simulated environment (once with the ACC andonce manually). During both drives, the participants experienced a critical situation (stationary vehicle stoppedin the cruising lane of the highway). The results show that negative behavioural adaptations to the ACCresulted from the usage of the system with regard to the critical situation: the risk of collision during the drivingwith ACC was increased compared with the manual driving for both groups of drivers. Besides, the researchstresses the negative large correlation between the driver’s mental model of ACC operation in the criticalsituation and the safety margins maintained by the ACC users during the same situation. Finally, it was foundthat the drivers’ trust in the system does not have an influence on the drivers’ behaviour during the trial with theACC.

This paper deals withan experimental evaluation regarding the real performance of lithiumbased energy storage systems for automotive applications. In particularreal working operations of different lithium based storage systemtechnologies, such as Li[NiCoMn]O2 and LiFePO4 batteries, are comparedin this work from the point of view of their application in supplying fullelectric and hybrid vehicles, taking as a reference the well-known behaviorof lead acid batteries. For this purpose, the experimental tests carried outin laboratory are firstly performed on single storage modules in stationaryconditions. In this case the related results are obtained by means of abidirectional cycle tester based on the IGBT technology, and consent toevaluate, compare and contrast charge/discharge characteristics andefficiency at constant values of current/voltage/power for each storagetechnology analyzed. Then, lithium battery packs are tested in supplying a1.8kW electric power train using a laboratory test bench, based on a 48VDC bus and specifically configured to simulate working operations ofelectric vehicles on the road. For this other experimentation the test benchis equipped with an electric brake and acquisition/control system, able torepresent in laboratory the real vehicle conditions and road characteristicson predefined driving cycles at different slopes. The obtained experimentalresults on both charge/discharge tests and driving cycles demonstrate theadvantages of using lithium technologies, mainly in terms of their highefficiency, particularly at high current values. That represents a feasiblesolution to offer vehicle designers and users extended driving ranges andreduced recharging times. Graphical abstract Highlights

Comparación entre estrategias de gestión energética paravehículos eléctricos con sistema de almacenamiento de energíahíbridaPublicada el 01/12/2014

This paper deals with the real-time energymanagement strategies for a hybrid energy storage system (HESS), including a battery and a supercapacitor(SC), for an electric city bus. The most attractive advantage deriving from HESSs is the possibility of reducingthe battery current stress to extend its lifetime. To quantitatively compare the effects of different controlstrategies on reducing battery degradation, a dynamic degradation model for the LiFePO4 battery is proposedand validated in this paper. The battery size is optimized according to the requested minimal mileage, while thesize of SC is optimized based on the power demand profile of the typical China Bus Driving Cycle (CBDC).Based on the optimized HESS, a novel fuzzy logic controller (FLC) and a novel model predictive controller(MPC) are proposed and compared with the existing rule-based controller (RBC) and filtration based controller(FBC), after all the controllers are tuned to their best performance along the CBDC. It turns out that FLC andRBC achieve the best performance among the four controllers, which is validated by the DP-based result.Furthermore, about 50% of the HESS life cycle cost is reduced in comparison with the battery-onlyconfiguration. In addition, the controllers are also compared along the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC),which represents another normalized driving cycle. The results show that the RBC, MPC, and FLC achieve asimilar performance, and they reduce about 23% of the HESS life cycle cost when compared to the battery-only configuration. The RBC and FLC are regarded as the best choices in practical applications due to theirremarkable performance and easy implementation.

The system for estimating allowableregenerative braking for a vehicle, includes: a motor control unit to providea charging power limit of a motor as a first input; a battery managementsystem to provide a charging power limit of a battery as a second input; anactive hydraulic brake to input allowable regenerative braking as a thirdinput; and a hydraulic control unit to estimate final allowable regenerativebraking using the charging power limit of the battery, the charging powerlimit of the motor, and the allowable regenerative braking as the inputs.

The system uses a plurality of pressure sensors in vehicleseats, a first plurality of optical infrared frequency sensors located in thepassenger compartment for measuring air temperature values of thepassenger compartment, a plurality of second optical infrared frequencysensors measuring occupant temperature values in the passengercompartment and, in embodiments, at least one front seat motion sensorand at least one back seat motion sensor.

When an airbag is provided on the vehicle wall side, outside a side frame,a seat back has different designs on the left and right, that is, on thevehicle wall side where the airbag is provided and on the vehicle interiorside where the airbag is not provided. A bracket (16) is mounted to theinside of the vehicle wall-side side frame (14fs) of a seat back frame, thebracket has on the inside thereof a holding bracket (16a) having asubstantially square C-shaped cross-section, and an airbag (20) isretained and held by the holding bracket. A screw (20a) protrudes from theinner surface side of the airbag and extends passing through a long hole-like groove (16a1) formed in the holding bracket. An expansion restrictionplate (22) is provided over the holding bracket and covers the inner surfaceside of the airbag, a hexagonal nut (22c) is engaged with the screw whichis inserted through the mounting hole (22a) of the expansion restrictionplate, and as a result the expansion restriction plate is mounted to theinside of the holding bracket. Thus the airbag on the inside of the sideframe is sandwiched between the side frame and the expansion restrictionplate.

According to some embodiments, asystem may include a controller configured to: connect to the mobile communication device and to the vehicletouch screen. The controller may also be configured to receive video signal of a current screen video imageshown on the touch screen of the mobile communication device and transmit the current video image to thevehicle touch screen, causing a corresponding video image of the current screen video image to be displayedon the vehicle touch screen. The controller may further be configured to receive a signal indicative of a touchaction that was performed on the vehicle touch screen, and cause the mobile communication device to respondas if a touch action corresponding to the touch action that was performed on the vehicle touch screen wasperformed on the touch screen of the mobile communication device.
