Muchos de nosotros o de las personas que co-nocemos dentro de la comunidad hispana hemos hecho viajes largos para llegar a este país. La decisión de dejar nuestra patria no es fácil y se toma, en último término, porque se piensa que lo que se busca es grande y merece la pena. Todos buscamos algo: una vida mejor, un futuro mejor para nuestros hijos. En el fondo, todos anhela-mos la salvación; esto significa salir de la opre-sión y entrar en una tierra de libertad. Eso mismo fue lo que hicieron los Tres Re-yes Magos. El que se pusieran en marcha a pesar de todas las dificultades que podría entrañar sig-nifica que buscaban la luz y la salvación. Siguie-ron su estrella, es decir su vocación, la llamada a buscar a Dios con todas sus fuerzas. El que en-contraran a Jesús es un signo de esperanza para nosotros: es posible encontrar a Dios. De cual-quier país, de cualquier raza y condición, todos somos llamados a buscar nuestra vocación y a encontrar a Dios, aunque el camino sea difícil y haya que dejar mucho atrás. -Esta Reflexión fue tomada de Nuestra Parroquia

National Migration Week January 5th – 11th, 2020

Celebrate the human dignity of migrants this week

as we celebrate National Migration Week

(#NMW). There are currently more than 70 mil-

lion people around the world who have been forci-

bly displaced from their homes due to political in-

stability, violence, and other reasons. We must

continue to stand in solidarity with our refugee

and migrant brothers and sisters.

During National Migration Week

Pray . . .

For all bishops in our Church, that each may be encouraged by our prayers and support to lead God’s people in building a culture that respects the human dignity of all migrants.

For all Catholics, that God inspire them to act in their local communities to support and protect migrants and to advocate on their behalf.

For our neighbors, coworkers, friends, fellow Christians, and all people, that they may grow in their awareness of the issue of migration and be-come a voice in the public square calling for greater protections for these populations.

For migrants, refugees, and all other strangers in our midst, that they may find strength in our con-cern for justice and feel the warmth of our love.

For all refugees who are forced to flee from their homes, that God bring peace to them, their fami-lies and their country of origin.

National Migration Week “Promoting a Church and a World for All”

As Catholics we recognize that our earthly existence is temporary as we look toward with hope our return to the presence of God. In recalling the temporal nature and recognizing the relative character of the goods of the earth, we must also guard against identifying too closely with the artificial divisions that sep-arate one person from another, divisions that become visible too often with respect to things like econom-ic class or national origin. We must always behave towards others in such a way that respects their human dignity and respects their image made in God’s likeness. We are called on to follow the path that God laid out for us and heed to the example of Christ, who “endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God. Consider how he endured such opposition from sinners, in order that you may not grow weary and lose heart” (Heb 12:1-4).

A Prayer for Immigrant Children Loving Father, in your infinite compassion, we seek your divine protection for refugee chil-dren who are often alone and afraid.

Provide solace to those who have been witness-es to violence and destruction, who have lost parents, family, friends, home, and all they cherish due to war or persecution.

Comfort them in their sorrow, and bring help in their time of need.

Show mercy to unaccompanied migrant chil-dren, too, Lord.

Reunite them with their families and loved ones.

Guide those children who are strangers in a for-eign land to a place of peace and safety.

Comfort them in their sorrow, and bring help in their time of need.

Show us how we might reach out to these pre-cious and vulnerable children.

Open our hearts to migrant and refugee children in need, so that we might see in them your own migrant Son.

Give us courage to stand up in their defense against those who would do them harm.

For this we pray through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Saint Andre Bessette 1845-1937 Feast Day —January 6

Born in Canada, Andre joined the Congregation of Holy Cross and took final vows in 1874. For dec-ades, Brother Andre humbly served his community near Montreal as doorman, janitor, barber, gardener and infirmarian. With St. Joseph as his model and intercessor, he developed a healing ministry and huge following. In 1904, he moved into Montreal to help build the Oratory of the Holy Cross, and re-mained there for the rest of his life. When this “Miracle Man of Montreal” was canonized in 2010, Pope Benedict XVI said he “lived the beatitude of the pure of heart.”

Three Kings celebration (Rosca de Reyes)

On Monday, January 6 at 6 PM in the Parish Hall, the Hispanic community will celebrate the commemoration of the arrival of the three Magi by serving a Rosca de Reyes (Three Kings) bread. Traditionally, figurines of the baby Jesus are hid-den in the bread. This represent the flight of the Holy Family, fleeing from King Herod's Massacre of the Innocents. Whoever finds a baby Jesus figu-rine in their slice of the sweet bread is blessed, and also has the responsibility of hosting a dinner on the upcoming Candlemas Day (the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2).

Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the Rosca de Reyes (Three Kings) bread.

Notice: DATE CHANGE The 5th-8th grade PSR students were scheduled to assist with the 8 AM Mass on Sunday, January 12. The date has been moved to Sunday, January 26. If you were scheduled to be a lector, usher or gift bearer on the 26th, please plan to do that on the 12th instead. The children will do those ministries on the 26th. Thank you for your cooperation.

R E F L E C T I O N

Most of our ancestors, took long journeys to reach this country. The decision to leave their own country was not easy and it was taken, ulti-mately, because of the conviction that what was being sought after was great and worthwhile. All of us are looking for something: a better life, a better future for our children. Deep down, we are all yearning for salvation; that means leaving op-pression and coming into a land of freedom. It is the same thing the Three Wise men did. The fact that they embarked on the journey de-spite all the difficulties it would entail means that they sought the light and salvation. They followed their star, that is to say their vocation, the call to seek God with all their strength. The fact that they found Jesus is a strong sign of hope for us: it is possible to find God. From any country, any race or social status, we are all called to find our voca-tion and to find our God, even if the journey is not easy and we have to leave much behind.
