HistoriaLos restos más antiguos encontrados en Estepona, se remontan a la época prehistórica, al Neolítico, y a las edades del Cobre y del Bronce, destacando la necrópolis megalítica de Corominas. Entre los numerosos asentamientos fenicios y romanos, destacan las ruinas de la desembocadura del río Guadalmansa, que podrían pertenecer al municipio romano denominado Salduba.En el siglo X, durante el periodo de esplendor del Califato cordobés, se funda la ciudad de Estebbuna, origen de la actual Estepona. En 1456 es conquistada por el rey Enrique IV de Castilla y completamente destruida poco después. A comienzos del siglo XVI, los Reyes Católicos ordenan la reconstrucción de las murallas de Estepona, debido a su excelente posición estratégica, y disponen su repoblación con 30 familias. En 1729, Felipe V concede el Privilegio de Villazgo a una próspera población de más de 600 vecinos, que sigue creciendo hasta la actualidad.

HistoryThe oldest remains found in Estepona date from prehistoric and Neolithic times, along with the Copper and Bronze Ages. Of note is the megalithic necropolis of Corominas. Among the numerous Phoenician and Roman settlements, particularly worth a visit are the ruins at the mouth of the River Guadalmansa, which may have belonged to the Roman town of Salduba.The city of Estebbuna, the forerunner to today’s Estepona, was founded during the golden age of the Caliphate of Cordoba in the 10th century. It was re-conquered by King Enrique IV of Castile in 1456 and completely destroyed not long after. At the start of the 16th century, the Catholic Kings ordered the reconstruction of Estepona’s walls, due to its excellent strategic position, and 30 families moved back into the town. In 1729, Felipe V awarded the Privilegio de Villazgo (status of a villa or royal burgh) to a prosperous population of over 600 inhabitans, which has continued to grow until today.

torre del reloj. Torre de la antigua Iglesia de los Remedios, construida durante el S.XVI. Tras el terremoto de 1755, la iglesia sufre graves daños, siendo posteriormente derribada y quedando sólo la torre. En el siglo XVIII se añade un campanario de estilo neoclásico.CLOCK TOWER. The tower of the old Remedios Church, built during the 16th century. The church was seriously damaged in the 1755 earthquake and later demolished, leaving only the tower. A neo-classical belfry was added in the 18th century.ЧАСОВАЯ БАШНЯ (ТОРРЕ-ДЕЛЬ-РЕЛОХ). Башня старой церкви Лос-Ремедиос, построенной в XVI веке. После землетрясения 1755 года церковь получает значительные повреждения, после чего ее сносят и остается только башня. В XVIII веке к ней пристраивается колокольня в неоклассическом стиле.

Museo arqueológiCo. El Museo Arqueológico se ubica en la “Casa del Aljibe”, un edificio construido en el siglo XIX sobre un aljibe perteneciente a una torre de época musulmana.A partir de 1853, fecha en la que es adquirido por el Ayuntamiento, alberga la casa consistorial hasta 2011. El rico patrimonio que podemos admirar entre sus muros procede, por un lado, de colecciones particulares y, por otro lado, de las intervenciones arqueológicas realizadas en las últimas décadas.De entre los restos prehistóricos destaca una estatuilla femenina, la Venus de Estepona, con 5000 años de antigüedad.ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM. The Archaeological Museum is located in “Casa del Aljibe”, a building constructed in the 19th century on a well that pertained to a tower from Muslim times.The building was acquired by the Town Hall in 1853 and was its offices through to 2011. ColeCCión garó. Se encuentra ubicada en un palacete con torreón del siglo XIX en la céntrica Plaza de las Flores, en dependencias que se organizan en torno a un amplio patio porticado. Este palacete, que fue vivienda y hospital antes de su adecuación para usos culturales, es conocido como la “Casa de las Hermanas Tejerinas”. La magnífica colección, cedida por el humorista Ángel Garó, acoge más de 300 piezas de arte que abarcan desde el S. XV hasta la actualidad, donde podemos encontrar óleos, acuarelas, dibujos, grabados, esculturas, cerámicas y marfiles, así como por algunos muebles y objetos de decoración.GARÓ COLLECTION. Housed in a small palace with a 19th-century tower located in the central Plaza de las Flores, this building is structured around a large portico courtyard. The palace, which was a private home and a hospital before being remodelled for cultural uses, is known as “Casa de las Hermanas Tejerinas” (“House of the Tejerina Sisters”). The magnificent collection, granted by the Spanish actor and comedian Ángel Garó, boasts more than 300 pieces of art from the 15th century through to today, including oil and water paintings, illustrations, engravings, sculptures, ceramics and marble works, as well as furniture and decorative objects.КОЛЛЕКЦИЯ ГАРО. Especialmente diseñado para esta exposición, presenta la particularidad de estar enclavado en un edificio subterráneo debajo de un túmulo, recreando así la arquitectura funeraria megalítica. En su interior se ha reconstruido la topografía del yacimiento, incluyendo los cinco dólmenes de hace unos 5.000 años en su posición original, de los que se exhumaron varias decenas de individuos enterrados con vasijas de cerámicas, útiles de piedra, puntas de flecha, hachas y adornos personales, sobresaliendo las cuentas de collar, realizadas algunas sobre piedras semipreciosas, así como conchas marinas perforadas.COROMINAS PREHISTORIC NECROPOLIS INTERPRETATION CENTRE. Especially designed for this exhibition, it has the peculiarity of being located in an underground building beneath a burial mound, thereby recreating megalithic funeral architecture. Inside, the site topography has been reconstructed and includes five dolmens from around 5,000 years old in their original position, from which dozens of individuals who had been buried with pieces of pottery, stone tools, arrow tips, axes and personal adornments were exhumed. Particularly important are the necklace beads, some made from semi-precious stones, along with perforated sea shells.Ц Е Н Т Р И Н Т Е Р П Р Е Т А Ц И И Д О И С Т О Р И Ч Е С К О Г О Н Е К Р О П О Л Я К О Р О М И Н А С . Fiesta en la que la diversión y el buen humor son los protagonistas. A lo largo de todo el Carnaval, se hacen concursos de disfraces y actuaciones de las agrupaciones carnavalescas.Carnival (February). Brightly dressed Carnival groups singing humorous and satirical songs fill the streets with life during these days. This is a festival where fun and good humour are the main entertainment. Feria y Fiestas Mayores (Primera semana de julio). Tanto las calles del centro de Estepona durante el día, como el recinto ferial de noche, se llenan de colorido, luces y casetas, en las que los vecinos y visitantes se reúnen para disfrutar de la música, del baile, y de la degustación de productos típicos. Un desfile de carrozas y jinetes ataviados de flamencos recorre las calles.Fair and annual festival (first week of July). Both the streets of Estepona by day and the fairground by night are filled with colour, lights and stalls, where locals and visitors come together to enjoy music and dancing and to sample local produce. A great parade and riders dressed in flamenco costume pass through the streets.Ярмарка (ферия) и главные праздники (первая неделя июля). PlayasLa costa de Estepona, baja y arenosa, se extiende a lo largo de más de 21 kilómetros, ofreciendo un total de 17 playas, la mayoría de ellas dotadas con los equipamientos necesarios para garantizar la seguridad de vecinos y visitantes, con módulos de servicios que cuentan con vestuarios, duchas, aseos, equipos de primeros auxilios, facilidades para discapacitados, zonas de hamacas, zonas náuticas, chiringuitos y zonas de juegos recreativos.

La Playa de la Rada, es la más emblemática de Estepona, distinguida en varias oca-siones con la Q de Calidad y la Bandera Azul por sus condiciones higiénicas, sanitarias y medioambientales. Además de contar con todos los servicios, posee un excepcional dispositivo de vigilancia. Una de sus grandes ventajas es que se encuentra a un paso de las calles principales de nuestro municipio, resultando muy cómoda para aquellos que después deseen visitar el centro.A lo largo de sus tres km, se extiende el Paseo Marítimo, donde se realizan todo tipo de actividades de ocio en los meses de verano.

la Playa del Cristo forma una bonita cala, es ideal en cualquier época del año. Esta pequeña playa de 680 metros de longitud, ha sido galardonada con la “Q” de Calidad. Es un entorno ideal para los niños, el agua está muy limpia y templada, al estar protegida. Existe una parte de arboleda.

Beaches The low-lying, sandy coast of Estepona runs for more than 21 kilometres, offering a total of 17 beaches, most equipped with the facilities needed to guarantee the safety of locals and visitors, with service modules that include changing rooms, showers, toilets, first aid equipment, handicap-ped facilities, a hammock area, sailing areas, snack bars and areas with recreational games.

Playa de la Rada is the most emblematic beach in Estepona, distinguished on various occasions with the Q for Quality and Blue Flag distinctions for its hygiene, sanitary and environmental conditions. In addition to hosting a full range of services, it has excellent lifeguard facilities. One of its big advantages is that it is close to the main streets of the town, making it very convenient for people who wish to enjoy the beach after visiting the centre.A promenade runs along the beach’s three-kilometre length, where all sorts of recreational activities take place during summer.

Playa del Cristo is a pretty bay and ideal at any time of the year. This small beach, 680 metres long, has been awarded the Q for Quality. It is a perfect setting for children - the water is very clean and warm because it is protected. One part of the beach features a grove.
