DISTILLATION• When one component of the mixture

is volatile and the others do not vapourise under the same condition ,they can be separated by distillation.

• If the components of a mixture possess a large difference in their boiling points ,they can be separated by distilltion.

DISTILLATION –SET UP

EXAMPLES Distillation can be used to separate a mixture

of water (boiling point 100 degree celsius) and acetone (boiling point 56 degree celsius).

The distilled water used for injection and in storage battery is produced by distillation.
