In the four Gospels, the first four books of the New Testament, the word "heaven" ap-pears 122 times. In almost all of his parables, Jesus is encouraging us to keep our atten-tion fixed on the big picture, the whole story. In the parable we just listened to, for example, the motivating factor is the abundant fruit that eventually grows out of the seed that was planted in good soil. That seed had to overcome three major obstacles: the birds, the rocky soil, and the weeds and briars. Jesus tells us that those three obstacles stand for three types of suffering that can come to us: the devil can attack us with deceptions and lies, our own selfish tendencies can fill us with discouragement when following Christ gets hard, and the world around us can sap our energy and faith with its cares, troubles, and seductions. And how does Jesus motivate his listeners to follow him in spite of all those difficulties and hardships? He turns their attention to the end product, to the harvest, to eternal life. Remember the beatitudes? "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be com-forted; blessed are the pure of heart, for they will see God..." Each beatitude teaches us to see our struggles in light of "the glory that is to come." The Church teaches us the same thing. At every single Mass, we pray, "Deliver us, Lord, from every evil... and protect us from all anxiety as we wait in joyful hope for the com-ing of our Savior, Jesus Christ." This summer, as we relax from the busyness of our daily routine, let us engage our-selves to grow in Faith and wherever we are, let us be open to let the “seed” – God’s word permeates into us and grows within us. Just as farmers till the soil, we have to be active in letting the Word of God bear fruit in our life by cultivating the soil of our soul. God Bless you all!

En los cuatro Evangelios, la palabra "cielo" aparece 122 veces en los primeros cuatro libros del Nuevo Testamento. En casi todas las parábolas, Jesús nos anima a que mantengamos la atención fija en lo más importante de la historia. En la parábola que acabamos de escuchar, por ejemplo, el factor motivador es el abundan-te fruto que creció de la semilla que fue plantada en tierra buena. Esa semilla tuvo que ven-cer tres grandes obstáculos: las aves, el terreno pedregoso y los espinos. Jesús nos dice que estos tres obstáculos representan tres tipos de sufrimientos que pueden llegar a noso-tros: el demonio puede atacarnos con desilusiones y mentiras, nuestras propias tendencias egoístas nos pueden llenar de desaliento cuando se nos hace difícil seguir a Cristo, y cuan-do el mundo que nos rodea nos puede quitar la energía y nuestra fe con sus preocupacio-nes , problemas y seducciones. Y ¿cómo es que Jesús motiva a los que lo escuchan para que lo sigan a pesar de los tiempos difíciles y los problemas? Pone su atención al final del producto, para la cosecha, para la vi-da eterna. ¿Recuerdan las Beatitudes? "Bienaventurados los que lloran, pues ellos serán consolados; bienaventurados los limpios de corazón, pues ellos verán a Dios..." Cada beati-tud nos enseña a ver nuestros problemas en la luz de que "la gloria va a llegar a nosotros." La Iglesia nos enseña las mismas cosas. En cada misa, rezamos, "Líbranos del mal. Señor, líbranos de todo mal... Y protégenos de toda ansiedad mientras esperamos con esperanza gozosa por la venida de nuestro Salvador, Jesucristo." En este verano, mientras descansamos de las ocupaciones de nuestra rutina diaria, com-prometámonos nosotros mismos, a crecer en la Fe y donde nos encontremos, estemos abiertos a dejar que la “semilla” – la Palabra de Dios, penetre y crezca dentro de nosotros. De la misma manera como los granjeros cultivan la tierra, debemos estar activos para dejar que la Palabra de Dios produzca fruto en nuestra vida, cultivando el suelo de nuestra alma. ¡Que Dios los bendiga a todos!
