    All J-1 students need to comply with SEVIS regulations.

    What is SEVIS?

  • You must confirm your arrival in the USA within 7 days of the start date of your DS-2019.

    Your J-1 visa is not fully active until you have completed this

    step.

    VALIDATIONSEVISYou have one main obligation under SEVIS.

  • Validating your ProgramWhen you arrive into USA, you must immediately submit

    HOUSING & WORK addresses through your online account

    to validate your program!

    This information must be COMPLETE and in WRITING. CCI WILL NOT take this information over the phone!

    This procedure is REQUIRED for your program to legally begin! You must validate your program within 7 days after your DS 2019 start date!

    If you DO NOT validate your program in time, you CANNOT work in the US and must return home immediately!

    You are required to notifyCCI of three things.

    Report any change of address or job to CCI

    Report your departure from the USA

  • Failure to notify CCI willJEOPARDIZE YOUR VISA STATUS!

    CCI is REQUIRED to report all students who do not provide updated, accurate information.

    We CANNOT make exceptions!

    This will have negative effects on your and your familys chances at ever returning to the US!

  • NO SHOW STATUSWhen you fail to validate your program in SEVIS,

    your status becomes NO SHOW

    This means that you entered the United States, but did not report your correct housing and employment addresses.

    When your status becomes NO SHOW, you will need to return home immediately. NO SHOW status can disqualify you from getting a future

    visa to the USA!!

    The Work & Travel program allows international universitystudents to participate in affordable and quality cultural exchanges in the US during their main break from school.

    You are eligible to work during the dates indicated on your DS-2019 form.

    After your work period, you can travel for up to 30 days within the US.Travel is subject to embassy restrictions.

  • MONEY!!Hours & WagesFor servers, the minimum wage is usually $2.15 per hour + tips.

    You will be working, on average, at least 30 hours/week.

    The minimum wage for each state can be found in your Online Student Handbook.

    Week 2: You work 50 hours

    Week 3: You work 30 hours

    Week 4: You work 60 hours

    Your average for the month would be 40 hours per week.

    (20 + 50 + 30 + 60) hours4 weeks

    = 40 hours/week

    Average means your hours balance out at the end of your stay.

    -Social Security-Medicare-FICA.

    If these are taken from your check, this is a mistake that needs to be corrected; tell your employer!

    EVERYONE working in the US must pay FEDERAL taxes!

    When you arrive to your employer, you need to complete a W-4 form.

    After your program, you will probably be eligible for a tax refund!

    This means you will get some money back!

    You must file your taxes by April 15th of the following year!

    CCIs provider is AETNA Insurance Company.

    Not all CCI students will use AETNA insurance - ask your sending agent!

    For emergencies or hospital admission ON or BEFORE December 31, 2008, call 1-877-566-2681. For emergencies or hospital admission AFTER December 31, 2008, call 1-888-551-9798.

    For non-emergencies (when you need to see a doctor):

    1. Make an appointment

    2. Send an AETNA claim form signed by your physician.

    Your plan is intended to pay for most medical expenses after a $20 office visit co-pay BUT if you go to the emergency room, and you are not admitted, you will have to pay $250!

    You are required by law to have insurance for the ENTIRE time that you are in the US!

    If you plan to travel after you work, contact CCI2 weeks BEFORE your DS 2019 end date!!

    Additional insurance costs $15 per week.

    CCI insurance does not cover damage occurring while driving a motor vehicle. You are responsible for obtaining additional insurance for this.

    If you plan to drive a car while you are in the United States, you will need a Drivers License!

    If you do not have an international drivers license, you can apply for a U.S. drivers license at the nearest Department of Motor Vehicles office.
