NOTICES

Did you know? Read-aloud book stories to stretch your relationship with your children. Summer is a good time to instill or develop reading habits in your children. Books are a good source to learn about new things in life and as you read together with your children it can help to strengthen your relationship with them and learn about their emotions or concerns, especially during this time of COVID-19. “Worries, fears, and anxieties are all dragons that sneak up on most of us at one time or another,” says the introduction to the book “You’ve Got Dragons,” authored by Kathryn Cave. “It is the perfect read-aloud story for young children whose fears can sometimes get the better of them.” Among books rec-ommended by the American Psychological Association (APA) are: “A Feel Better Book for Little Worriers,” and “My Wandering Dreaming Mind,” both in English, and “Respira con Facilidad,” in Spanish. For more information of the APA’s Magination Press Story Time visit, https://www.facebook.com/MaginationPressAPA/.

FATHERHOOD

When a father gives to his son, both laugh; when a son gives to his father, both cry.

—William Shakespeare

ENTHUSIASM AND GRAMMAR

There is a good reason that the writings of St. Paul don’t show up as exam-ples in grammar textbooks. Today’s reading is a case in point. It begins with one of those long Pauline run-on sentences that leave lectors gasping for breath. So what? Take a closer look at how Paul’s fervor for his subject matter derails the grammar. There is something admirable about being so caught up in his convictions that the words cannot come fast enough to express them, much less in an orderly fashion. Scripture scholars usually take this grammatical in-eptness as a sign of a passage’s early importance in the Christian community, something they were so ardent about that their language never got refined.

What leaves us in this condition? Re-telling the plot line of an action mov-ie or the play-by-play of a sporting event? When was the last time any of us was so excited by our faith in Christ that we were left grasping for words, stumbling over our own errors in speech? It may be bad grammar, but it is an excellent way to inspire others with the message of Christ!

LECTURAS DE HOY

Jeremías 20:10-13 Romanos 5:12-15 Mateo 10:26-33

NOTICIAS
