The developers of the Ocean Key Resort Hotel & Conference Center are looking for a design concept that will embrace the beach aesthetic and unique charm that symbolizes Key West, Florida. This luxury resort located on the island of Key West will attract both vacationers and business travelers year round. The ultimate goal of the developers for this hotel design is to immerse their visitors in the natural beauty and culture of Key West.

It is with these goals in mind that I decided upon my design solution. My concept is founded upon the pure beauty that feeds the extraordinary culture and people of the island. It is a sense of clarity and light – seen in the sunrises, sunsets, the greens, blues, and whites – that is the fuel behind the life of Key West. This clarity, light, and transparency is a design concept that best attains the goals of the Ocean Key Resort and turns it into the modern, breezy, and coastal retreat that the developers so desire.

This design concept, as the basis of every decision, can be seen in the bright, tropical blues and greens that draw on the natural beauty of the island, as well as the crisp whites and creams that create an open and breezy atmosphere. Primarily, my concept draws upon the way the sun illuminates the clear, blue Caribbean waters. This is most notable in the glass ceiling installation in the center of the lobby, as well as the design of the registration desk and the use of fountains throughout the hotel, both exterior and inte-rior. All of these combine to create a calming, luxurious resort that is an oasis for business travellers and an escape for vacationers. My design concept for the Ocean Key Resort Hotel & Conference Center brings the natural beauty and attraction of Key West to life in a stunning hotel interior.
