LO QUE NOS DEFINE

Misión Brindar un exigente programa bilingüe con altos estándares académicos que promueva

valores, destrezas, conciencia internacional y actitudes en el alumno, que lo capaciten

para alcanzar una vida productiva y saludable dentro de la comunidad global.

Visión El Colegio Maya está empeñado en mantener y mejorar su reconocimiento a nivel

nacional e internacional como un colegio bilingüe que fomenta excelencia académica y

la concientización internacional. El Colegio Maya empoderará a sus estudiantes para

obtener éxito en una sociedad globalizada y demandante.

Filosofía El colegio se compromete a brindar un ambiente seguro, cálido, enriquecedor y

estimulante donde los estudiantes puedan prosperar y crecer; donde logren graduarse

siendo ciudadanos productivos y comprometidos con el mundo. La revisión continua del

currículo y el diverso entorno didáctico nos permite cumplir con altas expectativas

académicas.

El crecimiento personal se logra a través de los fundamentos, filosofía y Metodología Life

Ahead, la cual promueve la autonomía, organización, responsabilidad y convivencia. Su

principal objetivo es crear individuos autosuficientes que asuman una responsabilidad

cada vez mayor de su propio aprendizaje. La combinación de altas expectativas

académicas y la Metodología Life Ahead desarrolla las competencias necesarias en cada

estudiante, para que éste se convierta en un individuo con interés en continuar

aprendiendo, con mentalidad internacional para poder defender los principios

democráticos y se comprometa a utilizar la resolución de conflictos en todos los aspectos

de su vida.

DERECHOS Y RESPONSABILIDADES DE LOS ESTUDIANTES

Derechos a. Recibir una excelente educación académica y moral.

b. Ser tratados con respeto por maestros, compañeros y cualquier empleado del Colegio.

c. Participar en actividades culturales, sociales, cívicas y deportivas relacionadas con el

Colegio.

d. Exponer ante maestros y consejeros problemas personales o académicos para recibir

ayuda y orientación.

e. Aportar ideas y proyectos que puedan enriquecer y/o mejorar el sistema académico y

disciplinario del Colegio.

f. Ser escuchados cuando se vean involucrados en una situación disciplinaria.

g. Obtener permiso para retirarse del Colegio en caso de enfermedad seria o emergencia

familiar.

h. Asistir a clases en un ambiente seguro y predecible.

i. Ser informados de lo que se espera de ellos en la clase.

Responsabilidades a. Respetar y cumplir las reglas del Colegio y asumir las consecuencias establecidas.

b. Asistir puntualmente a clases todos los días.

c. Utilizar el uniforme del Colegio correctamente, dentro y fuera de las instalaciones.

d. Tratar a maestros, compañeros y demás empleados del Colegio con respeto, cortesía y

consideración.

e. Actuar honestamente.

f. Cuidar las pertenencias propias y respetar las ajenas.

g. Resarcir cualquier daño causado a la propiedad del Colegio o a otras personas

h. Cumplir con el trabajo asignado por sus maestros. Estar preparado en clase y con una

actitud positiva.

i. Demostrar civismo y decoro durante actos cívicos, culturales y deportivos.

METODOLOGÍA FORMATIVA LIFE AHEAD Life Ahead es la metodología formativa propia del Colegio y está basada en cuatro pilares:

1. Autonomía: Capacidad de valerse por sí mismos, con autoestima, creatividad y

pensamiento crítico.

2. Organización: Capacidad de aprovechar su tiempo y saber ordenar sus pensamientos

y sus espacios.

3. Responsabilidad: Capacidad de tomar buenas decisiones con criterio y conciencia de

los efectos de sus actos.

4. Convivencia: Capacidad de tolerancia, respeto, espíritu de diálogo y colaboración

armónica con los demás.

ACREDITACIONES, MEMBRESÍAS Y PROGRAMAS El Colegio posee diversas acreditaciones, membresías y programas que aseguran el

cumplimiento de nuestros altos estándares académicos.

Acreditación Nacional Ministerio de Educación (MINED): acreditación nacional que se otorga a centros

educativos que han cumplido con los criterios e indicadores de calidad establecidos.

Acreditación Internacional Council of International Schools (CIS): Organización de educación internacional con los

más altos estándares internacionales, cuyo objetivo principal es evaluar el desarrollo de las

mejores prácticas educativas en diferentes colegios alrededor del mundo. Es una

comunidad de miembros comprometidos con la educación internacional de alta calidad.

Membresías National Honor Society (NHS): La Sociedad Nacional de Honor es una organización mundial

establecida para reconocer a los estudiantes excepcionales de secundaria. Esta

reconoce a aquellos estudiantes que han demostrado excelencia en las áreas de

liderazgo, servicio y carácter.

College Board: Organización sin fines de lucro que conecta a los estudiantes con la

oportunidad y el éxito universitario. A través de nuestros programas e iniciativas, entre ellos

los exámenes SAT, los cursos y exámenes Advanced Placement® (AP), y las herramientas

para la planificación para la universidad.

Asociación Nacional de Escuelas Americanas de Centro América (AASCA): Su objetivo

principal es apoyar y fomentar la interacción académica, artística, deportiva y cultural

entre las escuelas internacionales en América Central. Se considera que, a través de la

organización y el patrocinio de este tipo de actividades, todos los jóvenes involucrados

estarán expuestos y se beneficiarán de la interacción multicultural.

Experiencia Internacional de Colegio a Colegio (ISSE): Es un programa internacional único

para escuelas que ofrece el intercambio de ideas y pensamientos a través del contacto

cara a cara con niños de otros países del mundo. Es de naturaleza no lucrativa, no política

y no religiosa.

Asociación Nacional de Directores de Secundaria (NAASP): Organización de directores y

otros líderes escolares de los Estados Unidos. Esta asociación busca transformar la

educación a través del liderazgo escolar.

Programas Gobierno Estudiantil: Es un espacio vivencial de formación para la democracia, que se

evidencia en la posibilidad de los estudiantes para elegir y ser elegidos, representar los

intereses de su comunidad y desarrollar su capacidad de liderazgo político en la institución

y su entorno local. Permite el desarrollo afectivo, social y moral de los estudiantes, a través

de situaciones vivénciales.

Promueve en los estudiantes el trabajo cooperativo, la participación, los inicia en la vida

comunitaria. Educa a los estudiantes en la libertad, la paz, la tolerancia, el respeto mutuo,

la sana convivencia, la solidaridad, la cooperación, la toma de decisiones y a la

autonomía entendida como el derecho de obrar libremente asumiendo las

responsabilidades que ello conlleva. La forma para el cumplimiento de sus deberes y el

ejercicio de sus derechos, a fin de que afronten con responsabilidad su rol de adultos en

el futuro.

Modelo de la Naciones Unidas (MUN): proyecto liderado por estudiantes, con fines

educativos y formativos. A través de diferentes técnicas de debate y negociación, los

alumnos representan a países miembros en los diversos órganos del sistema ONU. Los

proyectos MUN buscan fomentar el espíritu crítico y la participación de los estudiantes, que

adquieren principios, valores y mecanismos para la resolución pacífica de conflictos.

También contribuyen a la adquisición de conocimientos sobre la realidad internacional.

PROCEDIMIENTOS DE RUTINA

Entrada 1. Los estudiantes deben llegar al Colegio entre 7:10 y 7:15 a.m. Las clases empiezan a las

7:30 a.m.

2. Para cumplir con exigencias curriculares, algunos grados de bachillerato podrán tener

clases en los períodos 0 (cero), de 6:45 a 7:25 a.m.

3. El acceso al campus se restringirá a partir de las 7:30 a.m. Los estudiantes que ingresen

después de esta hora permanecerán bajo la supervisión de un maestro y se

reincorporarán al segundo período de clases.

Recreos 1. Los estudiantes deben salir a recreo de una forma ordenada.

2. Los estudiantes deben seguir las indicaciones de las normas de convivencia y las de los

docentes que cuidan las zonas de recreo. Cualquier incidente debe ser comunicado a

dicho docente.

3. En un día lluvioso, los estudiantes permanecerán dentro de sus aulas o en áreas

cubiertas.

4. Los estudiantes deben ocupar este tiempo para ir al baño.

Salida

Procedimiento de salida

Los estudiantes deben esperar dentro de las instalaciones del Colegio, en las áreas

designadas para el despacho; luego proceder a salir con prontitud al ser llamados por

el altavoz. En los días de lluvia, los estudiantes esperarán en sus aulas y áreas cubiertas

designadas.

Los padres de familia deben recoger a sus hijos puntualmente y de manera ordenada

siguiendo la fila de despacho sin salir de sus vehículos.

El Colegio se reserva el derecho de no autorizar la entrada a vehículos que en repetidas

ocasiones hayan irrespetado el límite de velocidad, el respeto hacia la fila o excedido

el tiempo de carga/ descarga de estudiantes. En caso los estudiantes no estén listos

para bajarse del vehículo o abordarlo, el vehículo deberá dar otra vuelta al triángulo

interno para no perjudicar el flujo ágil de vehículos. Los minutos de despacho no son

para consultas con los docentes.

Si un estudiante se tiene que retirar del Colegio con terceras personas, éste deberá

presentar a primera hora de la mañana una nota de permiso firmada por el

padre/madre o encargado(a), autorizando la salida con alguien más. Sin este permiso

firmado, no podrá salir del Colegio. No se otorgan autorizaciones por teléfono.

Asistencia La asistencia al Colegio es fundamental para alcanzar los objetivos escolares. Las

estadísticas muestran que los estudiantes que tienen patrones de buena asistencia son más

exitosos, tanto académica como socialmente.

Hay actividades académicas que se evalúan exclusivamente a través de la participación

del estudiante, por ello es que una ausencia en estos casos afecta su rendimiento. Ejemplos

de estos casos son: laboratorios, visitas culturales (museos, teatros, etc.) y excursiones

educativas.

Ausencias 1. Un estudiante debe asistir a clases un 90% del año escolar, es decir, no puede tener más

de 9 ausencias por semestre o 18 ausencias en el año.

2. Las tareas para estudiantes que estarán ausentes 3 días o más, pueden solicitarse con

la consejera antes de las 11:00 a.m. Los estudiantes que sólo estén ausentes 1 o 2 días

son responsables de pedir a sus docentes el trabajo atrasado tan pronto se presenten a

clases.

3. Para ausencias de 3 días o más, será necesaria una constancia médica.

4. Si un estudiante necesita faltar un día, llegar tarde por causa de un trámite o retirarse

del Colegio temprano, deberá solicitar permiso a más tardar el día anterior. Esto debe

hacerse solamente por razones médicas o emergencias familiares. Siempre que sea

posible las citas médicas deben programarse en horas fuera del horario escolar.

5. Cuando un estudiante participa en eventos culturales y/o deportivos, nacionales o

internacionales, deberá justificar por escrito la ausencia al director correspondiente.

6. Cuando un estudiante, con previa autorización, participa en eventos representando al

Colegio, la ausencia es justificada y no se le sancionará.

En casos de enfermedad 1. Si su hijo(a) está muy enfermo(a) no deberá asistir al Colegio.

2. Los estudiantes que, a criterio de la enfermera, se encuentren muy enfermos para recibir

clases, serán enviados a casa.

3. La enfermera podrá administrar medicamentos básicos en caso de heridas leves, fiebre,

dolores de cabeza y de estómago. Los medicamentos especiales o a los que sean

alérgicos deberán ser indicados en el cuestionario médico que se llena a principio de año.

Se deberá tratar de administrar en casa otros medicamentos, como por ejemplo

antibióticos. De no ser posible, deberán ser indicados por medio de receta médica y

autorizados por el padre/madre o encargado(a).

4. El Colegio ha contratado el servicio de PRIORITY. Este servicio brinda atención médica

de emergencia y urgencia, que pueda ocurrir dentro de nuestras instalaciones. Aplica

tanto a nuestros estudiantes, al personal como al público en general, garantizando un

rápido arribo y respuesta profesional las 24 horas del día, los 365 días al año. El servicio

incluye: orientación médica telefónica, atención médica de urgencias, atención médica

de emergencias y traslados a centros hospitalarios de pacientes críticos. Priority tiene 18

años de experiencia brindando este servicio.

De surgir alguna situación de emergencia dentro del Colegio Maya, se contactará

inmediatamente al servicio de emergencia PRIORITY, para llevar a cabo el el siguiente

procedimiento:

Atender a la persona damnificada en caso de emergencia.

Administrar medicamentos indicados por el médico presente.

En caso de situación crítica, trasladar a un hospital.

5. Si su hijo(a) presenta caso de pediculosis, será enviado a casa por el bienestar de los

estudiantes.

Útiles escolares 1. Los estudiantes deberán adquirir sus propios útiles y materiales escolares tales como

lápices, bolígrafos, plumones, cuadernos y libros de trabajo. Las listas de materiales se

entregan en la oficina y serán publicadas en el sitio web antes del inicio del año escolar.

2. Los estudiantes de 4° a 12° grado deberán tener un candado para su casillero. En caso

de no tener uno al final de la primera semana de clases, el Colegio proveerá uno a un

costo nominal.

3. El Colegio no se hace responsable de objetos que falten en los casilleros de los

estudiantes. Se recomienda que el estudiante mantenga siempre con llave su casillero

y que no comparta la llave haciendo duplicados ni que divulgue la combinación del

candado.

4. Los estudiantes siempre deben traer al Colegio los libros y materiales necesarios para

clase.

5. Es conveniente que todos los objetos personales estén claramente identificados con el

nombre y grado de cada estudiante y que todos los libros estén forrados con plástico

transparente.

6. Los textos y cuadernos que se encuentren abandonados serán remitidos a la encargada

de disciplina y podrán ser recuperados a un costo nominal.

7. Libros, trabajos, materiales u objetos personales no se recibirán después de las 7:25 a.m.

Objetos personales 1. Los teléfonos celulares serán recolectados cada mañana y mantenidos en la oficina

durante el día escolar. Al final del día escolar serán devueltos a cada estudiante. Si algún

estudiante conserva su celular, se le decomisará por un período de una semana, se

informará a los padres del incidente y se le devolverá oportunamente en la oficina.

2. A los estudiantes se les permite traer tabletas electrónicas, reproductores de sonido MP3

y computadoras personales al Colegio para su uso en clase. No es obligatorio que los

estudiantes traigan estos aparatos electrónicos al Colegio. El estudiante es el único

responsable por el cuidado, el uso adecuado y la pérdida de estos dispositivos

tecnológicos. El Colegio no tomará medidas extraordinarias, más allá de las que se

hacen normalmente, para recuperar herramientas de trabajo extraviadas. Los

dispositivos electrónicos deben venir completamente cargados al Colegio. No se

permitirá que los estudiantes los recarguen en las instalaciones escolares. Estos

dispositivos electrónicos deberán ser utilizados únicamente dentro del aula cuando el

maestro lo indique explícitamente. Cuando no estén en uso, los dispositivos deberán ser

apagados y guardados en su casiller o, el cual debe permanecer con llave, o dentro

de su bolsón mientras el estudiante esté en el aula.

3. Si un estudiante desobedece las políticas previamente establecidas, el dispositivo

electrónico será decomisado por 5 días escolares a los estudiantes que hagan uso

indebido de sus dispositivos por primera vez y 20 días a los estudiantes que incumplan las

normas por segunda vez. Una tercera, resultará en una prohibición de traer dispositivos

electrónicos al Colegio por un período de 60 días escolares. Estos días pueden ser

extendidos hasta el siguiente año escolar. Si se encuentra a un estudiante haciendo

plagio con el uso de un dispositivo tecnológico se le aplicarán las mismas consecuencias

anteriores. Además, se le prohibirá ingresar dispositivos electrónicos al Colegio por un

período de 100 días escolares. Estos días pueden ser extendidos hasta el siguiente año

escolar. Cualquier estudiante que elude el filtro de sitios web instalado por el Colegio

Maya tendrá prohibido ingresar dispositivos electrónicos a la institución por un período

de 100 días. Estos días pueden ser extendidos hasta el siguiente año escolar.

4. Los estudiantes no deben traer al Colegio juguetes, aparatos de sonido, parlantes,

grandes cantidades de dinero u objetos de valor. El cuido de objetos personales es

responsabilidad de cada estudiante.

Uso adecuado de la tecnología 1. A los estudiantes de secundaria se les solicita traer iPads y/o computadoras personales

al colegio para uso en clase. No es obligatorio para los estudiantes de 1° a 8° grado traer

estos aparatos electrónicos a la escuela.

2. El estudiante es el único responsable por el cuidado, el uso adecuado y la pérdida de

estos dispositivos tecnológicos.

3. El colegio no tomará medidas extraordinarias, más allá de las que se hacen

normalmente, para recuperar dispositivos extraviados.

4. Los dispositivos electrónicos deben venir completamente cargados al colegio. No se

permitirá que los alumnos recarguen sus dispositivos en las instalaciones escolares.

5. Estos dispositivos electrónicos deberán ser utilizados únicamente dentro del aula cuando

el maestro lo indique explícitamente. Cuando no estén en uso, los dispositivos deberán

ser guardados en su casillero con llave, o dentro de su bolsón cuando el estudiante esté

en el aula.

6. Los alumnos no deberán acceder a ninguno de los sitios web con acceso restringido por

parte del Colegio Maya.

Consecuencias por uso indebido

1. Si un alumno desobedece las políticas previamente establecidas, no se darán

advertencias. El dispositivo electrónico será confiscado por 5 días escolares a los

estudiantes que hagan uso indebido de sus dispositivos por primera vez, y 20 días a los

estudiantes que incumplan las normas por segunda vez. Una tercera resultará en

prohibición de traer dispositivos electrónicos al colegio por un periodo de 60 días

escolares. Estos días pueden ser extendidos hasta el siguiente año escolar.

2. Si se encuentra a un estudiante haciendo plagio con el uso de un dispositivo tecnológico

se le aplicarán la consecuencia designada a esta falta.

3. Cualquier estudiante que sobrepase el filtro de sitios web instalado por el Colegio Maya

tendrá prohibido ingresar dispositivos electrónicos a la institución por un periodo de 100

días. Estos días pueden ser extendidos hasta el siguiente año escolar.

Visitas Los padres de familia son bienvenidos al Colegio y pueden pedir ayuda o información

a través de la secretaría. Ningún padre puede ingresar a las aulas o instalaciones sin

previa autorización de la secretaría del Colegio.

Los estudiantes o personas de otras instituciones que deseen dar información de sus

actividades sociales, deberán dejar dicha información en la secretaría del Colegio.

PLAN DE EMERGENCIA

Plan de evacuación de estudiantes En caso de emergencia, los estudiantes deben seguir el procedimiento descrito a

continuación:

a. Todos los estudiantes deberán adoptar la posición de emergencia y salir de sus aulas en

“formación de tren”.

b. Los docentes llevarán a los estudiantes al área asignada, tomarán asistencia y allí

esperarán a recibir instrucciones.

c. Los estudiantes deberán mantenerse en silencio y esperar indicaciones de las

autoridades escolares.

d. Los estudiantes que se encuentren en el baño o en los pasillos deben buscar a un adulto

y dirigirse a una de las áreas asignadas en los planos de evacuación.

e. Estudiantes y docentes deberán esperar instrucciones por parte del coordinador de

área o el sustituto designado.

f. Los estudiantes podrán ser retirados en el área de despacho.

Indicaciones adicionales En casos de emergencias como terremotos, incendios, etc., se establece que:

Ningún estudiante puede retirarse del Colegio si no es con sus padres o personas

autorizadas

Ningún estudiante puede retirarse con otro estudiante si su nombre no está

en la lista de autorizaciones

Los estudiantes serán entregados a la primera persona autorizada que se presente en el

Colegio.

El Colegio Maya solicita a los padres:

No llamar al Colegio. Se necesita tener las líneas telefónicas libres.

Recoger a sus hijos lo más pronto posible

No estacionarse en las áreas de despacho y seguir las instrucciones del guardia de

seguridad u otra autoridad escolar

Esperar a que sus hijos salgan de las instalaciones.

Procedimiento de cierre en emergencia En caso de que haya una amenaza en las instalaciones del Colegio, por ejemplo: un intruso

o cualquier otro tipo de situación que ponga en riesgo la integridad física de los estudiantes

y del personal, se seguirá el siguiente procedimiento:

El coordinador u otra autoridad escolar ordenará y anunciará el procedimiento de

cierre.

Inmediatamente todos los estudiantes, docentes y visitantes deberán dirigirse a un aula

o a un área de mayor seguridad. Los docentes deben revisar si hay estudiantes fuera de

las aulas y llevarlos rápidamente a un lugar seguro.

Los grupos de clase que se encuentren fuera de las instalaciones no deben ingresar al

Colegio. Junto a su docente, deben buscar un lugar seguro.

Alejarse de ventanas y puertas. Apagar las luces.

No responder a nadie que toque la puerta hasta que el Coordinador u otra autoridad

escolar anuncie que todo está bajo control.

SISTEMA DE CALIFICACIÓN El año escolar del Colegio Maya está dividido en cuatro períodos. Cada período

usualmente tiene entre 8 y 10 semanas.

Los estudiantes de los grados 1° a 12° son evaluados a la mitad de cada uno de esos cuatro

períodos, recibirán un Reporte de Progreso. La escala que se utiliza para estos informes es

la siguiente:

Para evaluar a los estudiantes de Parvularia y aspectos como esfuerzo y conducta se usará

la siguiente escala:

Reporte de progreso y notas

1. Reportes de progreso serán enviados después de la primera mitad de cada período.

Estos deberán ser firmados por padres de familia y entregados a los maestros

encargados de grado a más tardar dos días hábiles después de haberlo recibido. Con

base a estas calificaciones, los padres y/o maestros pueden solicitar citas para discutir

el progreso académico del estudiante.

2. Tanto el reporte de progreso como el reporte de notas, estarán disponibles a través de

nuestro portal en Internet, de acuerdo a las fechas del calendario escolar.

3. Las notas serán entregadas al final de cada período. Estas fechas estarán publicadas

en el calendario escolar.

4. Si un estudiante extravía su Reporte de Notas, el padre de familia o encargado puede

solicitar una nueva impresión a la oficina a un costo de reposición nominal.

Cuadro de honor/ Cuadro de honor superior 1. Si un estudiante obtiene promedios de A y B (80-100%) en todas las materias y “S” o “E”

en conducta y esfuerzo, obtendrá Cuadro de Honor para ese período.

2. Si un estudiante obtiene promedio de A (90-100%) en todas las materias y “S” o “E” en

conducta y esfuerzo, obtendrá Cuadro de Honor Superior para ese período.

3. Un estudiante pierde el Cuadro de Honor si obtiene “NI” o “U” en conducta o esfuerzo.

4. Estudiantes que han sido reportados más de una vez a la oficina por disciplina no serán

elegibles para el Cuadro de Honor.

Reconocimientos anuales Excelencia Académica: Al finalizar el año lectivo, el Colegio otorga el reconocimiento a la

Excelencia Académica al estudiante más destacado del nivel de grado. El estudiante

debe tener el promedio más alto del curso, haber obtenido el Cuadro de Honor durante

los 4 períodos y no haber sido sancionado a nivel disciplinario.

Estudiante Maya: Esta distinción se otorga al estudiante que mejor refleja las cualidades

humanas del estudiante según nuestro ideario. Se refiere al estudiante que demuestra el

más alto grado de compañerismo, sinceridad, honestidad, respeto y lealtad hacia el

Colegio.

Asistencia Perfecta: Se otorga a todo aquel estudiante que está presente en el Colegio

todos los días del año escolar. Cualquier llegada tarde, sin importar la razón, descalifica al

aspirante a esta distinción.

Código de honor Todo estudiante del Colegio Maya se adhiere a un código de honor. Este consiste en un

enunciado que se firma en señal de cumplimiento en cada trabajo o evaluación.

Nuestro código de honor es el siguiente: Juro por mi honor que no he recibido ni dado

información indebida en esta evaluación.

Procedimiento de promoción El propósito del procedimiento de promoción es garantizar que los estudiantes hayan

alcanzado las habilidades y destrezas necesarias para cursar con éxito el siguiente

grado.

Parvularia

El progreso en el desarrollo del estudiante es supervisado durante todo el año escolar. Si

en la opinión de los docentes el estudiante no muestra el grado de madurez suficiente

para pasar al siguiente nivel, se informará a los padres de familia por medio de una reunión

y de una carta a más tardar cuando finaliza el tercer período.

Primaria a Bachillerato

1. Un estudiante del Colegio Maya puede reprobar un grado sólo una vez. Si reprueba una

segunda vez, el estudiante no podrá ser readmitido.

2. El estudiante que obtenga promedios F (0-59%) en dos o más materias, deberá repetir el

año.

3. El estudiante que obtenga una "F" (0-59%) y dos o más "D" (60-64%) en sus promedios

finales, deberá repetir el año.

4. El estudiante que obtenga cuatro o más promedios de D (60-64%) puede aprobar o

reprobar el año basado en una evaluación de la administración.

5. El estudiante que obtenga tres promedios de D (60-64%) puede aprobar o reprobar el

año basado en una evaluación de la administración.

6. No habrá promociones condicionadas.

7. Los estudiantes están sujetos a atender curso de nivelación o a realizar exámenes de

reposición según la disposición de la administración.

Requisitos de Graduación/Asistencia a Ceremonia de Graduación

Los diplomas de Bachillerato se les otorgan a los estudiantes que:

a. Obtengan un promedio final mínimo de 65% en todas las materias.

b. Rendir la prueba "PAES" (Prueba de Aprendizaje y Aptitudes para Egresados de

Educación Media), la cual es requisito para obtener el título de Bachiller del Ministerio

de Educación.

c. Cumplan con el Servicio Social requerido en el Artículo 26 de la Ley General de

Educación de El Salvador.

d. Todo estudiante de último año de Bachillerato (Grado 12) que reprueba alguna materia,

tiene el derecho a tomar un examen extraordinario, el cual deberá aprobar con la nota

requerida para obtener un promedio final mínimo de 65; además de mantener durante

el año escolar una nota de conducta satisfactoria (S) o mejor.

Curso de nivelación

El Colegio Maya estimula que los estudiantes se dediquen a diversas actividades

recreativas durante las vacaciones de fin de año escolar, sin embargo, se puede ofrecer

un curso de reposición para estudiantes que han reprobado materias básicas (Inglés,

Matemática, Lenguaje) para poder mantenerse a nivel con sus estudios.

Asimismo, se ofrecen estos cursos con carácter de reforzamiento académico si a criterio

de los estudiantes y/o padres, estas clases le procurarán beneficio y seguridad al

estudiante en el siguiente año académico.

También, el Colegio Maya ofrece un curso recreativo de verano opcional para estudiantes

de kínder a quinto grado.

AFTER SCHOOL El programa de “After School Center” se lleva a cabo en el Colegio Maya de 12:00 m a

2:20 p.m. Ofrece la oportunidad para que los estudiantes desarrollen destrezas y

habilidades motoras finas y gruesas a través de manualidades, deportes, entre otras.

También cuenta con un período para reforzar conocimientos y realizar tareas.

RÉGIMEN DISCIPLINARIO Se espera que los estudiantes del Colegio Maya sigan las normas de convivencia y

cumplan con las regulaciones establecidas por el Colegio. Los estudiantes deben mostrar

un alto nivel de responsabilidad al presentarse puntualmente a sus clases, debidamente

uniformados, preparados diariamente para sus exámenes y laboratorios, entregando a

tiempo las tareas y los trabajos. También se espera que los estudiantes demuestren respeto

hacia sus docentes, compañeros, personal administrativo y personal de mantenimiento del

Colegio. La relación empleado-estudiante deberá ser positiva, profesional y respetuosa.

A continuación, se presenta una lista con algunos ejemplos de conductas inadecuadas y

sus consecuencias. La administración se reserva el derecho de aplicar una consecuencia

cuando lo considere necesario.

No entregar teléfono celular al inicio del día escolar. Se procederá según Normativa

“Uso Adecuado de Tecnología”.

uniforme o distintivos del Colegio); incluyendo alcohol, tabaco, cigarros electrónicos, y

cualquier otra sustancia o utensilios para el uso o consumo de las misma.

Posesión, uso y/o distribución de armas de cualquier tipo.

Robo o hurto.

Uso inapropiado de la tecnología y la Internet/"Bullying" cibernético, "texting-or-sexting",

etc.

Tomar fotografía a estudiantes y/o divulgar fotografías de maestros, estudiantes o

cualquier personal de la institución sin su consentimiento

Faltar respeto al docente por medio de lenguaje corporal, gestos, tono de voz, actitud,

expresiones orales y/o escritas, entre otras.

Falsificación de firma(s) y/o alterar cualquier documento escolar/oficial.

Hacer uso de las redes sociales y/o internet para difamar o calumniar a otra persona.

Tomar y/o divulgar fotografías o cualquier representación gráfica (memes) que difamen,

calumnien o denigren a cualquier persona.

Cometer un delito.

Consecuencias Para Faltas Muy Graves (STEP)

Reporte acumulativo que se aplica cuando un estudiante comete una falta muy grave.

El director correspondiente, junto a la coordinadora de disciplina, informa a los padres

de familia y al estudiante, los cuales deben firmar dicho documento.

Si un estudiante acumula faltas muy graves, el caso se refiere al Comité Disciplinario, el

cual decide la consecuencia pertinente; esta puede llegar a ser derecho de readmisión

a la institución.

Contrato de conducta A criterio de la administración del Colegio, se podrá extender un contrato de conducta

en cualquier momento el cual deberá ser firmado por el estudiante y sus padres.

Contrato de informe diario Si un estudiante está con ayuda del informe diario, dicho informe será presentado a la

Dirección para ser firmado al finalizar el día escolar. Los padres de familia también deberán

firmarlo cuando sea enviado a casa. Los estudiantes deberán presentarlo a la mañana

siguiente con ambas firmas.

Sistema disciplinario El sistema disciplinario se basa en las normas y estatutos del Colegio. Hay acciones

correctivas que se aplican cuando se rompen las reglas. Estas acciones son anotadas y

serán parte del expediente del estudiante.

Comité disciplinario Objetivo y Organización

Ejecutar y dar cumplimiento a las normas establecidas en el reglamento de disciplina. El

Comité Disciplinario está compuesto por dos maestros, dos padres de familia, un

estudiante, a fin de que cada uno aporte su criterio ante determinado caso, logrando así

una perspectiva integral de la situación.

REGLAMENTO SOBRE EL UNIFORME Las siguientes reglas aplican desde el momento en que los estudiantes ingresan al Colegio

hasta que se retiran.

Niñas Uniforme Formal

1. Kínder a 4° Grado: Overol y blusa de cuello redondo/ Suéter o chumpa del Colegio.

2. 5° a 8° Grado: Falda short o pantalón y blusa tipo Polo/ Suéter o chumpa del Colegio.

3. 9° a 12° Grado: Falda o pantalón y blusa tipo Polo/ Suéter o chumpa del Colegio.

*Los zapatos del uniforme formal de las niñas deben ser de color negro. Pueden ser de

cuero o material semejante. El estilo es tradicional, cerrado, sin adornos y sin tacón. Las

calcetas deben ser blancas. Las punteras son permitidas.

Uniforme de Educación Física

1. Kínder a 12° Grado: shorts o pants y camiseta del Colegio.

2. Los zapatos para el uniforme de Educación Física deben ser deportivos.

3. Las calcetas deben ser blancas. Las punteras blancas son permitidas.

3. Los zapatos para el uniforme formal deben ser de color negro. Pueden ser de cuero o

material semejante. El estilo de los zapatos negros es tradicional, sencillo y los calcetines

deben ser blancos, azules o negros. Las punteras son permitidas.

Uniforme de Educación Física

1. Kínder a 12° Grado: Shorts o Pants y camiseta del Colegio

2. Los zapatos para el uniforme de Educación Física deben ser deportivos.

3. Las punteras blancas son permitidas.

4. Gorra del Colegio

Cumplimiento de uniformidad 1. El corte de cabello para los estudiantes debe ser tradicional y el color natural. No se

permite colores de pelo extravagantes. P ara los niños, lo largo del pelo no puede

extenderse debajo de la ceja cuando se peina para adelante, no puede extenderse

pasado de la oreja cuando se peina de lado y no pasado del cuello de la camisa

cuando se peina para atrás. El uniforme se revisa diariamente.

2. Los uniformes deben estar en buen estado y ser usados correctamente. El uniforme será

revisado por el profesor de homeroom.

3. Solamente se permiten sudaderas y gorras del Colegio.

4. Joyería facial o perforaciones en el cuerpo no son permitidos.

5. No se permite usar barba ni bigote. Si un estudiante no está afeitado deberá afeitarse

en el Colegio para lo cual se le proveerá de una maquinilla de afeitar desechable a un

costo nominal.

6. No se permiten tatuajes visibles o perforaciones visibles (Piercings). Las estudiantes no

deberán utilizar aritos largos.

7. Los collares deben ser utilizados dentro de la camisa. Sólo se permite uno.

8. No es permitido usar gorras dentro del aula.

9. No es permitido usar la capucha de la sudadera dentro del aula.

10. Las señoritas no deben usar maquillaje y sus accesorios deben ser discretos. La falda

debe ir a la rodilla.

11. En días de excursión, los estudiantes serán instruidos en cómo vestirse para el evento.

12. En "Jeans Day" o “Spirit Week” no se permite utilizar jeans rotos, sandalias de playa,

blusas muy escotadas, de tirantes o sin tirantes o shorts muy cortos.

13. Los padres de familia serán informados de las infracciones en el incumplimiento de

uniformidad. Después de 3 infracciones de uniforme, el/la estudiante recibirá una

detención.

14. La aceptación de la apariencia de un estudiante será determinada por la

administración del Colegio.

ACTIVIDADES SOCIALES Las actividades sociales con fines benéficos y proyección a la comunidad se realizarán a

través de la Sociedad de Honor y el Comité de Padres. Toda actividad deberá ser

aprobada por la administración.

NORMAS PARA EQUIPOS ATLÉTICOS El Colegio Maya alienta a sus estudiantes a participar en actividades deportivas y

programas atléticos. Se espera que todos los estudiantes muestren camaradería y buena

conducta durante eventos deportivos. Para poder participar en programas colegiales e

intercolegiales, se requiere que los estudiantes tengan un nivel académico satisfactorio y

buena conducta. La administración se reserva el derecho de retirar a cualquier estudiante

de un equipo si este muestra cualquier tipo de indisciplina o incumplimiento. Todos los

estudiantes deben jugar en la categoría correspondiente según su edad.

Adicionalmente, el cuerpo estudiantil que participa en los programas colegiales e

intercolegiales, deberá seguir y cumplir con las normativas de AASCA (Association of

American Schools of Central America).

PAGOS POR SERVICIOS EDUCATIVOS Y CONTRATOS DE ADMISIÓN Los padres de familia y estudiantes deben cumplir con los siguientes procedimientos:

Matrícula Para matricularse al inicio del año escolar, el estudiante debe estar solvente de todo pago

anterior. Para garantizar la inscripción del siguiente año escolar, el valor de la matrícula

debe ser cancelado en el período establecido. En caso de no recibir el pago

oportunamente, el Colegio se reserva el derecho de disponer de los cupos. Los estudiantes

que no hayan cancelado la matrícula no podrán iniciar clases.

Colegiatura El Colegio expresa el valor de la colegiatura en forma anual. Todo estudiante deberá

cancelar la colegiatura anual indistintamente de su fecha de ingreso. El Colegio permite

el pago en cuotas mensuales (agosto a junio). Período de pago de cada cuota: dentro

de los primeros 10 días del mes.

Pagos extemporáneos y falta de pago de cuotas Los pagos realizados fuera de los períodos mencionados estarán sujetos a un recargo

específico en el mes por estudiante. Los estudiantes que no hayan cancelado la matrícula

antes del inicio del año escolar, no podrán iniciar clases. En caso de mora o atraso en el

pago de los servicios educativos, se reserva el derecho de admisión para el siguiente año

escolar.

Entrega de documentación Todas las obligaciones económicas para con el Colegio incluyendo, colegiaturas,

matrícula y/o cargos por propiedad del Colegio dañada o extraviada por el estudiante,

deben ser canceladas debidamente para entregar documentación tales como reportes

de notas, certificados, diplomas, títulos de bachiller, etc.

Se requiere que los padres de familia firmen un contrato de admisión en el cual se

establecen costos de matrícula y colegiaturas. Firmar este contrato implica la aceptación

de sus términos.

Los estudiantes graduados recibirán sin cargo un original del resumen oficial de notas. En

caso de necesitar notas y/o cartas de recomendación adicionales, deberán solicitarlas en

la oficina y pagar el valor de las mismas.

c. To participate in cultural, social, civic, and athletic activities related to school.

d. To talk to their teachers and counselors about personal problems in order to receive help

and guidance.

e. To suggest projects and ideas that will enhance and/or improve school's discipline and

academic programs.

f. To be heard when involved in a discipline related situation.

g. To be allowed to leave school in case of serious sickness or family emergencies.

h. To attend classes in a safe and positive environment.

i. To know what is expected from them in the classroom.

Student´s responsabilities The following are responsibilities of all students:

a. Respect and follow the school's rules and regulations and comply with the

consequences.

b. Attend school every day and be on time.

c. Wear school uniform in an appropriate manner both on and off school premises.

The Association of American Schools of Central America (AASCA): AASCA was formed to

support and encourage academic, artistic, athletic and cultural interaction between

international schools that offer a US type education in Central America. It is felt that through

the organization and sponsorship of these types of activities that all young people involved

will be exposed to and benefit from the multicultural interaction. It is the desire of AASCA to

promote a better understanding of multiculturalism among all races of young people

through these events.

The International School-to-School Experience (ISSE): is a unique international program for

schools that provides for the exchange of thoughts and ideas through face-to-face

contact with children from other countries around the world. It is non-profit, non-political,

and non-religious in nature.

Association of Private Schools of El Salvador (ACPES): Association of private schools in El

Salvador, it has approximately 600 members. Their objective is strengthening and promote

high quality education.

Programs Student Government: is a representative structure of Colegio Maya´s student community; it

is designated to participate in school affairs, such as spirit rallies, Empire activities, Maya

Day, Children’s Day, and other activities that enrich the school environment. Student

Government members work in partnership with school management, staff and parents,

bringing ideas, requests and feedback on educational, recreational and social matters.

Student Government members serve to keep students informed of relevant issues, promote

civility in the student body by offering opportunities for growth through community service,

and act as a liaison between the student body and the administration. This entity will also

serve as a vehicle to promote organizational skills, leadership, democratic practices,

tolerance, respect to other people's opinion, decision-making and management skills.

Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an extra-curricular activity in

which students typically role-play delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN

committees. This activity takes place at MUN conferences, which is usually organized by a

high school or college MUN club.

ROUTINE PROCEDURES

Entrance 1. Students should arrive at school between 7:00 and 7:15 a.m. Classes begin at 7:30 a.m.

2. In order to comply with curricular standards, some high school grade levels might begin

classes during period 0 (zero) from 6:45 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.

3. Access to the campus will be restricted from 7:30 a.m. Students who arrive after this time

will remain under the supervision of a teacher and will join their class beginning second

period.

Recess 1. Students should go to recess in an orderly manner.

2. Students should follow teachers' instructions during this time. Any problem should be

reported to the teacher on duty.

3. On a rainy day, students will remain in their classrooms or in covered areas.

4. Students must use this time to go to the bathroom.

Dismissal

Dismissal procedure

Students must wait in the designated areas inside the premises until they are called for

dismissal through the PA system. On rainy days, students will have to wait in their

respective classrooms and assigned covered areas

Parents should pick up their children promptly and in an orderly manner, following the

dismissal line without leaving their vehicles.

The School reserves the right not to authorize the entrance to vehicles that have

repeatedly violated the speed limit, who have not followed the line or exceeded the

loading / unloading time of students. In case the students are not ready to get out of the

vehicle or board it, the vehicle must turn around the internal loop in order not to interrupt

the flow of vehicles. This time is not for a parent teacher conversation.

If a student is leaving school with a person other than his/her parents, a note should be

signed by parents or guardian and turned into the homeroom teacher first thing in the

morning. Without parent's permission no student will be allowed to leave the school

premises. No authorization through the telephone will be accepted.

Attendance School attendance is vital to a student's achievement; statistics show that students who

develop good attendance patterns are more likely to be successful both academically

and socially.

There are some academic activities that are evaluated exclusively through the

participation of the student body; therefore, absences in such cases affect the academic

quality of their education. Examples of these activities are: science labs, cultural visits

(museums, theaters, etc.) and educational field trips.

Absences 1. A student must attend 90% of the school year, that is, he cannot have more than 9

absences per semester or 18 absences in the year.

2. Homework for students who are absent for three or more days must be requested to the

counseling department before 11:00 a.m. Students absent for only one or two days are

responsible for asking their teachers for missing work.

3. For absences of three or more days, a medical excuse will be necessary.

4. If a student needs to miss a day, arrive late or leave the school early, he or she must

request permission the previous day. This should be done only for medical reasons or

family emergencies. Whenever possible, medical appointments should be scheduled

outside of school hours.

5. If a student participates in cultural events and/or national or international events, he/she

must justify his/her absence in writing to the corresponding division principal in advance.

6. When a student, with prior authorization, participates in events representing the School,

the absence is justified and will not be sanctioned.

Students illness at school 1. If your child is ill, he or she should not be sent to school.

2. Students who are too sick to be in class will be sent home.

3. The nurse will administer simple medicines in case of headaches, stomachaches, and/or

fever. Special medications should be indicated on the medical form filled out for each

student at the beginning of the year. Other treatments, such as antibiotics should be

treated at home. If not possible, indications must come with a doctor’s prescription and

authorized by the parents.

4. The School has contracted PRIORITY. This service provides emergency and urgent

medical attention that may occur within our campus. This applies to our students, staff

and the general public, guaranteeing a fast arrival and professional response 24 hours a

day, 365 days a year. The service includes: telephone medical guidance, emergency

medical attention, emergency medical attention and transfer to a hospital. Priority has

18 years of experience.

Should any emergency situation arise within our campus, contact will be made

immediately to the PRIORITY emergency service, to carry out the following procedure:

Take care of the injured person.

Administer medications indicated by the doctor.

In case of critical situation, move to a hospital. In case of an emergency parents

or guardians authorize this procedure.

5. Students who present cases of any infectious disease, will be sent home for the wellbeing

of the student body.

School supplies 1. Students must buy their own school supplies such as pens, pencils, notebooks, erasers,

rulers, and other basics required on the list given at the office before the beginning of

each school year. A list of materials needed will be handed out in the office and posted

on the website at the beginning of each school year.

2. Students from 4th through 12th grade must bring a key or combination lock for their

locker. In case they do not have one by the end of the first week of school, the school

will provide one, charging a fee.

3. Colegio Maya will assume no responsibility for items missing from students' lockers. It is

recommended that students always keep their lockers locked and not share their key or

make duplicates of it, nor share the combination of their lock.

4. Students should bring all necessary materials and textbooks for each class at all times.

5. It is required that all materials be labeled with the student's name and grade, and all

textbooks covered with clear plastic.

6. Lost and found items will be returned for a nominal fee. Contact the Discipline Head for

this matter.

7. Students' books, work, materials, or personal possessions will not be accepted after 7:25

a.m.

Personal objects 1. Cell phones will be collected each morning and kept in the main office during the school

day. At the end of the day, the phones will be given back to each student. If a student

keeps his/her phone during school hours, the phone will be confiscated for a week and

parents will be informed about the event. The phone will be returned to the student after

the confiscation period expires.

2. Students are allowed to bring electronic tablets, and personal computers to the school

for class use only. It is only mandatory for High School students to bring such devices to

the school. The student is the only person responsible for the care, use, and loss of his/her

device. The school will not take any extraordinary measures other than the norm to

recover lost personal items. Electronic devices must be fully charged at home. These

electronic devices are to be used during class time only and when instructed by the

teacher. When not in use, the devices must be turned off and stored inside a locker, this

must always be locked. If the student is in class, the device must be inside their

backpacks.

3. If a student disobeys any of the established policies, there will be no warning and the

device will be confiscated for five school days for first time offenders, and twenty school

days for second time offenders. A third offense will result in the restriction to bring

electronic devices to the school for a period of 60 days. These days can be extended up

until the next school year. If a student is found to be plagiarizing or displaying

inappropriate material, the previous consequences apply. Additionally, if a student

breaches the security filter established by Colegio Maya, they will not be allowed to bring

any such device to the school for 100 days. These days can be extended to the next

school year.

4. Students should not bring toys, sound devices, speakers, large amounts of money or

valuables to school. The care of personal objects is the responsibility of each student.

Proper use of the technology 1. High school students are asked to bring tablets and / or personal computers to school for

classroom use. It is not mandatory for students from 1st - 8th grade.

2. The student is solely responsible for the care, proper use and loss of these technological

devices.

3. The school will not take extraordinary measures, beyond those that are normally done,

to recover lost devices.

4. Electronic devices must come fully charged to the school. Students will not be allowed

to recharge their devices at school facilities.

5. These electronic devices must be used only inside the classroom when the teacher

explicitly indicates it. When not in use, the devices should be shut down and stored in a

locked locker, or inside a backpack.

6. Students must not access any of the websites restricted by Colegio Maya.

Consequences for improper use:

1. If a student disobeys previously established policies no warning will be given: the

electronic device will be immediately confiscated for 5 school days from students who

misuse their devices the first time, and 20 days from students who break the rules a second

time. A third will result in a ban on bringing electronic devices to school for a period of 60

school days. These days may be extended until the following school year.

2. If a student is found using the electronic device to plagiarize the previously mentioned

consequence will be applied.

3. Any student who breaches the filter of websites installed by Colegio Maya will not be

allowed to bring an electronic device to school for a period of 100 days. These days may

be extended until the following school year.

Visitors Parents are welcome to come to school and ask assistance from the school's secretaries.

No parent should go into the classrooms or premises without previous permission from the

administration.

If students from other schools want to leave information about social activities of their

schools, they must leave it at the office.

EMERGENCY PLAN

Evacuation plan for students

In case of emergency or drill, students must follow this procedure:

a. All students must adopt the emergency position and leave their classrooms in a “train

formation”.

b. The teachers will take the students to the designated area, they will take attendance

and wait for instructions.

c. Students should remain silent and wait for instructions from school authorities.

d. Students who are in the bathroom or in the hallways should look for an adult and go to

one of the designated areas in the evacuation routes.

e. Students and teachers must wait for instructions from the division principal or the person

in charge.

f. Students would be picked up at the dismissal area.

Further instructions In case of emergencies, such as an earthquake, fire, etc. during the school day, Colegio

Maya states the procedure to be followed:

No student may leave school unless it is with his/her parents or other authorized

person

No student may leave with another student who is not on the authorized list

Students will be allowed to leave with the first authorized person to arrive.

Colegio Maya kindly asks parents to:

Refrain from calling the school. We need to have the phone lines open.

Pick up your children as soon as possible

Do not park in the dismissal areas and follow the instructions of the security guard or

other school authority

Wait for your children to leave the premises.

Lockdown procedures In case of an intruder on campus, a threat to the school building, or any other threat that

requires school action, the following lockdown procedures will be used:

The coordinator or other school authority will order and announce the lockdown

procedure.

All students, teachers and visitors should immediately go to a classroom or to a more

secure area. Teachers should check for students outside the classrooms and take them

quickly to a safe place.

Class groups that are off-site should not enter the school. Together with their teacher,

they should look for a safe place.

Get away from windows and doors. Turn off the lights.

Do not respond to anyone who knocks on the door until the coordinator or other school

authority announces that everything is under control.

received. Based on these grades, parents or teachers may request a meeting to discuss the

student's progress.

2. Report cards and progress reports will be available for viewing through our website and

will be posted on dates stated in the school calendar.

3. Report Cards will be turned in at the end of each period. The dates are posted on our

school calendar.

4. In case a student loses a report card, it will be replaced for a fee.

Honor roll/ High honor roll 1. If a student achieves "A" and "B" averages (80-100%) in all subjects and "S" or "E" in conduct

and effort grades, he/she will obtain an Honor Roll for that period.

2. If a student achieves an A average (90-100%) on all subjects and “S” or “E” on conduct

and effort grades, he/she will obtain a High Honor Roll for that period.

3. With any "NI" or "U" in conduct or effort a student cannot receive the honor roll.

4. Students who have been reported for disciplinary infractions more than once will not be

eligible for the Honor Roll.

Annual recognitions Academic Excellence: At the end of the academic year, the school recognizes the hardest

working student in each grade level. The student must have the highest average of the

grade level, have obtained the Honor Roll during all four quarters, and have a clean

disciplinary record.

Maya Student Award: This distinction is awarded to the student that best exemplifies the

qualities of an ideal student according to the schools' standards. This refers to the student

who demonstrates the highest level of camaraderie, sincerity, honesty, respect, and loyalty

towards the school.

Perfect Attendance: This award is given to all students who have had a flawless attendance

record throughout the entire school year. Any tardy, regardless of the reason, disqualifies

the aspirant from this distinction.

Honor Code All Colegio Maya students must adhere to the honor code. This is a commitment that is

signed before the beginning of each evaluation or schoolwork. Our honor code is as

follows:

Promotion procedures The purpose of this procedure is to guarantee that each student has acquired the skills

necessary to complete the following year successfully.

Early Childhood

Students' progress is monitored throughout the school year. If the teacher's opinion states

that the student does not show enough maturity or move on to the next grade, parents will

be informed through a letter and a meeting during the third quarter of the year. A student

cannot repeat any level of Early Childhood more than once.

Primary through High School

1. A student will not be readmitted if he/she fails any grade twice.

2. A student obtaining two or more "F" averages (59% or less) in core academic subjects will

fail the grade

3. A student obtaining one F (59% or less) and two or more "D" averages (60- 64%) will fail

the grade.

4. A student obtaining four "D" (60-64%) averages may fail or pass the grade depending

on an administrative evaluation

5. A student obtaining three "D" (60-64%) averages may pass or fail the grade depending

on the administrations evaluation

6. There will be no promotions on probation

7. A student will attend summer school or be given a re-examination upon the decision of

the administration

Graduation Requirements

A high school diploma is granted to students who:

a. Achieve a 65% final average in all subjects

b. Pass the "PAES" test, which is a requirement for the High School Diploma from the Ministry

of Education

c. Have completed social service required by the article 26 of the General Law of

Education of El Salvador

d. All senior students (Grade 12) who fail a subject, are entitled to a retake, which they must

pass and obtain a minimum final average of 65%. in addition, they must maintain a

satisfactory conduct (S) or better during the school year.

Summer School

Colegio Maya encourages students to practice other types of activities during the summer

vacation. Nevertheless, Colegio Maya offers a remedial course for students who have failed

basic subjects (English, Math, Language) in order to maintain their level of education.

Additionally, these subjects are offered with a reinforcement character to the student if the

student or his/her parents consider that it will be beneficial for the following school year.

Colegio Maya also offers a one-month recreational summer school for children from

Kindergarten – 5th grade.

AFTER SCHOOL The "After School Center" program takes place at Colegio Maya from 12:00 m to 2:20 p.m.

It offers the opportunity for Early Childhood students to develop fine and gross motor skills

and abilities through crafts, sports, among others. It also has a class period to reinforce

knowledge and perform tasks.

DISCIPLINE SYSTEM Students at Colegio Maya are expected to follow school procedures, and comply with

school rules and regulations. Students should show responsibility by being on time with all

the required materials and work, and also wearing the correct uniform, studying for tests

and quizzes, and turning assignments in on time. They are also expected to be respectful to

their teachers, classmates, administrators, and school personnel. The school does not

tolerate inappropriate employee-student relationships. School employee-student

relationships must be positive, professional, and non-exploitative.

Below is a non-inclusive list of inappropriate behaviors and their consequences. The

Administration reserves the right to apply a consequence as deemed necessary.

Consequences for Severe Infractions (Step)

A step is a cumulative report that is applied when a student commits a very serious

infraction. The division principal, together with the discipline coordinator informs the

parent. The student, parents and division principal must sign this document.

If a student accumulates serious infractions, the case will be referred to a Disciplinary

Committee, which decides the pertinent consequence; this could be the admission for

following school year.

Conduct contract The school's administration may extend a conduct contract at any time; this document

has to be signed by the student and parents.

Daily report Students with daily report must turn in such document at the end of the day to the

principal or assistant principal to be signed. Parents must also sign this report, which the

student should turn in the following day to the discipline coordinator.

Disciplinary system The disciplinary system is based on the rules and policies of the school. There are certain

actions taken when a rule or a policy is broken, these will be recorded in the student's

personal file.

Disciplinary Committee Objective and Organization

The disciplinary committee's objective is to ensure and oversee that the rules established

in the handbook are followed. Two teachers, two parents, and a student, to guarantee a

fair and unbiased resolution, comprise this committee.

UNIFORM POLICY The following rules apply to students from the moment they arrive at school until they leave.

Girls Formal Uniform

1. Kinder-4th grade: Bibbed skirt and round collar shirt/school sweater or jacket.

2. 5th grade – 8th grade l: Skirt or pants, polo shirt/school sweater or jacket.

3. 9th grade – 12 grade: Skirt or pants polo shirt/ school sweater or jacket.

*A traditional style flat dark shoe must be worn with the formal uniform. These can be leather

or leather-like material. Low cut socks are allowed.

P.E. Uniform

1. Kinder-12th grade: shorts, sweatpants, P.E. t-shirt

2. White, gray, blue, or black sneakers must be worn with the P.E. uniform

3. White socks (low-cut socks are allowed).

Boys Formal Uniform

1. Early Childhood: Short or slacks, polo shirt, black belt, school sweater or jacket.

2. 1st grade - 12th grade: Slacks, polo shirt, black belt, school sweater or jacket.

*A traditional style flat dark shoe must be worn with the formal uniform. These can be leather

or leather-like material. Low cut socks (white, blue or black) are allowed.

P.E. UNIFORM

1. Kinder-12th grade: Shorts or sweatpants, P.E. t-shirt

2. White, gray, blue, or black sneakers must be worn with the P.E. uniform

3. White socks (low-cut socks are allowed).

Uniform check 4. Hairstyles must be conservative. Dyed hair is not allowed. No extravagant hair colors are

allowed. Boys' hair length may not extend below the eyebrows when combed forward,

the bottom of the earlobe when combed to the side, and not passed the top of the shirt

collar when combed straight back. The uniform is checked daily.

5. Uniforms should be in good condition and worn correctly every day. Homeroom teachers

will check uniforms.

6. Only school sweatshirts, caps or jackets are allowed.

7. Facial jewelry or piercings are not permitted.

8. Beards and mustaches are not permitted. If a student is not well shaved, he will have to

shave in school. A disposable razor will be provided at a nominal cost.

9. No visible tattoos or visible piercings are allowed (Piercings). The students should not use

long earrings.

10. Necklaces should be worn inside the shirt. Only one necklace is allowed.

11. Caps or hats are not to be worn inside classrooms.

12. Wearing the hood of a sweatshirt inside the classroom is not allowed.

13. Girls should not wear makeup and their accessories should be discreet. The skirt should

be knee length.

14. For field trips, students will be informed in advance of the dress code.

15. On "Jeans Day" or "Spirit Week” torn jeans, beach sandals, low-cut blouses, tank tops or

very short shorts are not allowed.

16. Parents will be informed of uniform infractions. After three uniform infractions, the

student will get a detention.

17. The acceptability of the student's appearance will be determined by the school's

administration.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES The social activities in benefit of the school's community will be organized through the honor

society and the P.T.A. All student social activities must be approved by the administration.

ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES FOR INTRAMURAL AND INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETIC

PROGRAMS Colegio Maya encourages students to participate in sports activities and athletic programs.

All students are expected to show good sportsmanship and conduct. To be eligible for

participation in certain interscholastic programs students must meet certain academic

standards and discipline standards. The administration reserves the right to remove any

student from extracurricular activities for poor discipline or conduct. Every student must play

in the corresponding category corresponding age requirements.

Additionally, the student body that participates in intercollegiate programs should comply

and follow AASCA rules and regulations.

TUITION FEES AND ADMISSIONS CONTRACT

Parents and students should comply with the following procedures:

Registration To register for any given year, the student must not have back payments pending. In order

to guarantee the inscription for next year, the registration fee should be paid within the

established dates; otherwise, the school reserves the right to fill that position. The registration

fee is non-transferable and non-refundable. Students who have not paid the registration

fee will not be allowed to start school.

Tuition The tuition is expressed per annum. Annual tuition will be charged regardless of the actual

admission date. The school allows tuition to be paid in eleven-monthly installments

(August-June). Each installment should be paid during the first ten days of each month.

Late payments and non-payment Late payments will be subject to a late fee. Students who have not paid the registration

fee will not be able to attend school. Students presenting back payments will not be

allowed to attend school or take exams.

Documentation release All fees due to the school including tuition, registration, and charges for damaged or lost

school property should be fully paid in order to release documentation such as grades,

certificates, diplomas, or transcripts.

Parents are required to sign an admissions contract establishing tuition and fees. Signing

this contract implies acceptance of its terms.

Students who have graduated will receive an official report card brief. In case of needing

a more detailed report and/or recommendation letters a request must be done at the

office paying its value.
