Youth in ActionEVSThe Youth in Action programme offers young Europeans the chance to make a real difference to the world – and to their own lives – through the European Voluntary Service. The European Voluntary Service (EVS) provides young Europeans with the unique chance to express their personal commitment through unpaid and full-time voluntary activities in a foreign country within or outside the EU. In this way, it seeks to develop solidarity, mutual understanding and tolerance among young people, thus contributing to reinforcing social cohesion in the European Union and to promoting young people‘s active citizenship. Learning for life! Open to all young people aged 18 to 30, EVS is a true ‘learning service’. Beyond benefiting the local communities, by participating in voluntary activities, young volunteers can develop new skills and, therefore, improve their personal, educational and professional development.

Volunteers can benefit from specific training throughout the activity and agree on their expected learning outcomes, processes and methods in advance. Their learning experience is formally recognised through a Youthpass. Participation is free for the volunteers who also get board and lodging, insurance cover and an allowance for the duration of the project. Special conditions apply to encourage the participation of young people with fewer opportunities.

A successful EVS project requires close co-operation among at least three key players: a sending organisation, a host organisation and the volunteer. One of the organisations involved in this partnership also plays the role of coordinating organisation and applies for an EU grant on behalf of the partnership. Organisations perform a number of roles: they identify volunteering opportunities and develop projects that benefit the local community. They also recruit and prepare the volunteers, host them, and ensure follow-up. EVS activities can be carried out both individually or in group. Up to 100 volunteers can now participate in the same EVS activity. One thing all the activities have in common is a clear European and intercultural learning dimension. EVS is a mutually beneficial process, where everybody gains from getting to know the other‘s culture.EVS is one in a group of EU projects.

EVS at CEMERCEMER has had positive experience with EVS projects. The first project, called “PROMOTION OF EUROPEAN MOBILITY OF YOUTH”, was developed in 2008. Two volunteers from Poland had the opportunity to carry out their EVS project for six months. The basic aims of this project are:- To encourage transnational mobility - To promote the exchange of experiences among young people

from different countries and social realities- To provide an opportunity to get to know the experiences of

former students of CEMER who have already taken part in mobility projects such as Leonardo da Vinci or Comenius

- To motivate our students to participate in mobility and transnational projects and help them to be more open to other cultures and ideas

- To foster values of solidarity, tolerance and equal opportunities among the young

The second EVS project, named “Creativity for Youth”, started in autumn 2009 and it was developed by two volunteers from Austria. The main objectives of C4Y are to promote creativity and innovation in different areas and to foster European cooperation in the youth fields. During this project, the participants could work on the promotion of creativity and innovation through training and cooperation with International Mobility Department of CEMER.

Leonardo da VinciThe Leonardo da Vinci programme links policy to practice in the field of vocational education and training (VET). Projects range from those giving individuals the chance to improve their competences, knowledge and skills through a period abroad, to Europe-wide co-operation between training organisations.Part of the European Commission‘s Lifelong Learning Programme, the programme funds a wide range of actions, notably cross-border mobility initiatives; co-operation projects to develop and spread innovation; and thematic networks. The potential beneficiaries are similarly wide – from trainees in initial vocational training, to people already in the labour market, as well as VET professionals and private or public organisations active in this field.

Leonardo da Vinci enables VET organisations to work with European partners, exchange best practices, increasing the expertise of their staff and respond to the teaching and learning needs of people. It therefore supports efforts to make vocational education more attractive to young people.By helping European citizens to acquire new skills, knowledge and qualifications, the programme also aims to bolster the competitiveness of the European labour market.

Innovation projects have always been at the core of the Leonardo da Vinci programme. They aim to improve the quality of training systems through the development and transfer of innovative policies, contents, methods and procedures within vocational education and training.

Leonardo at CEMERWORKWOOD is an example of Leonardo da Vinci projects developed by CEMER. It Is aimed at providing placements for students of the Vocational Occupational Training or Continuous Training courses of CEMER who need to gain practical experience, improve their language skills and add a European dimension to their qualifications.

Our aim is to achieve their labour insertion or job improvement in order to reduce sectoral and regional unemployment rates and to improve the relation between training and job. At the same time, we would like to promote the use of new technologies in the wood sector, improve language and transversal skills of (future) wood professionals, and improve the quality of our vocational training offer. WORKWOOD wants to achieve that the participants continue their practical training implementing the knowledge acquired in our centres in Italy, Ireland and Portugal. Our students have the opportunity to complete their training and work placement abroad for 14 weeks (3 weeks of language and cultural preparation and 11 weeks of work placement in leading companies of the Wood- Furniture sector).

Thanks to this opportunity of transnational mobility, the Andalusian wood sector will have better qualified professionals who are familiar with the methods and processes used in European countries, leading to the creation of new jobs, socioeconomic development, cooperation and dissemination of best practices in companies across Europe.

Erasmus at CEMERAnother example of our mobility projects activity is the student exchange under Erasmus Programme. Erasmus is the EU‘s flagship education and training programme, enabling more than 180,000 students to study and work abroad each year, as well as supporting co-operation actions between higher education institutions across Europe. It caters not only for students, but also for professors and business staff who want to teach abroad and for university staffs who want to be trained abroad. In addition to mobility actions, the Programme supports higher education institutions to work together through intensive programmes, networks and multilateral projects.

Between the years 2003 and 2009 CEMER participated in 3 Erasmus Projects. CEMER hosted students from: - University of Paris XII Val de Marne (France)- 3 students (Length of stay - 3 months) - Budapest College of Management (Hungary)- 3 students
