“Intervengo sobre prendas en lino y algodón: manteles, vestidos de novia y fundas de mobiliario pertenecientes al antiguo ajuar de mi madre y de mi abuela”. (María Bueno) “I tamper with fabrics and pieces of clothing made of linen and cotton; table cloths, wedding dresses, furniture covers, all of which I found in my mother’s and grandmother’s trousseau.” (María Bueno)

“Para una temática como el ajuar no podía faltar el pañito de tela impregnado de sangre, prueba de virginidad …Mi pañito es así: me acuclillé encima del paño y dejé que la sangre cayera y se secara, a partir de ahí dibujé…” (María Bueno) “A trousseau-themed exhibition could not go without a cloth handkerchief stained with blood – the proof of virginity… My handkerchief is just like that . I crouched down over it and let the blood drip down. When it dried I began to draw around it.” (María Bueno)

“Aspiro a ser capaz de abrir las puertas de los lienzos que tengo frente a mí, dejando que éstos me inviten a entrar. Una vez dentro, observo y respiro –como si de un halo fresco de aire se tratara- , dejando que me hablen y “se pinten”. Una vez concluida

la tarea y ya fuera, espero haber realizado un trabajo digno que permita al espectador abrir también esas puertas, pudiendo penetrar en dichas composiciones. Deseo tener todos los días de mi vida la libertad y el gozo que la pintura me brinda.

”I dream to be able to open the doors of the paintings that I have in front of me, allowing them to invite me to enter into them. When inside, I watch and breathe the compositions shown to me (as if they were a breath of fresh air). I let

them talk me alone and let them paint themselves. Once this is done and I have stepped out of the paintings once more, I dream that I carried out my task well, well enough to allow the viewer to open those same doors, and enter

into those compositions. I dream to have the freedom and the joy that painting gives me every day of my life. I dream to be a painter.”

“The taming of the picture”

“(…) mi cabeza es una gran batalla caótica, en la que hay que "domar-domesticar" las cosas para poderle dar forma a través del cuadro. En este caso es como organizar en el lienzo un dibujo mental; de aquí que en la franja superior aparezca "una acción con el inicio del dibujo", pariéndolo, y como este se organiza, se extiende y toma forma, él solito, a lo largo y ancho del lienzo”. (María Bueno) “(…) in my head there is a huge chaotic battle going on, in which I have to tame/domesticate all the elements to then be able to give them a shape and put them into the picture. In this particular case it is like setting up a mental picture on the canvas; in the upper strip of the picture there is the action that starts off the picture, giving birth to it as such. And as it takes shape, it extends to fill the whole of the canvas.” (María Bueno)
