·La Vía Verde de la Subbética ha supuesto la recuperación del antiguo trazado del Tren del Aceite en esta zona, para su uso y disfrute a través de cicloturismo, senderismo y puntualmente, caballistas. El recorrido se compone de un total de 58 km., a través de los que quedan unidos los municipios de Lucena, Cabra, Doña Mencía, Zuheros y Luque.Bellos paisajes de entorno del Parque Natural de las Sierras Subbé-ticas y la Reserva Natural de la Laguna del Salobral se mezclan con la arquitectura ferroviaria conservada, formada por puentes, estaciones, casas de pasos a nivel e incluso un túnel. Como punto referencial del trazado se encuentra el Centro de Interpretación del Aceite (Cabra), donde se recrea la historia de esta línea ferroviaria inaugurada en 1893. La Vía Verde de la Subbética tiene su continuación en la provincia de Jaén con la denominada Vía Verde del Aceite, compo-niendo ambas la práctica totalidad del antiguo trazado ferroviario del Aceite.

·The Vía Verde or Green Route in the Subbética region has resulted in the recovery of the area’s Tren del Aceite or Oil Train line, to be used and enjoyed by cyclist, walkers and, occasionally, on horseback. The Route is 58 kilometres long, and links the towns of Lucena, Cabra, Doña Mencía, Zuheros and Luque.The beautiful scenery of Sierra Subbética nature park and the Laguna del Salobral nature reservecombines with the railway architecturethat has been conserved, including bridges, stations, level crossing guardhouses and even a tunel.The Oil Train Information Centre in Cabra is a referencepoint for the route, and recreates the history of this railway line inaugurated in 1893. The Vía Verde de la Subbética finds its continuation in the province of Jaén with the Vía Verde del Aceite or Green Route Oil, and the two make up practically the entirety of the old oil railway line.

·En 1993 se pone en marcha por el anterior Ministerio de Obras Públicas Transportes y Medio Ambiente. El objetivo es el acondiciona-miento de antiguos trazados ferroviarios para que puedan transitar cicloturistas, senderístas y jinetes.En la actualidad colaboran en el Programa RENFE, FEVE, Comuni-dades Autónomas, Diputaciones, Mancomunidades y Municipios. La Fundación de los Ferrocarriles Españoles coordina a escala nacional el Programa. El programa Vías Verdes es completado por las instituciones gestoras de las mismas con la rehabilitación de estaciónes ferroviarias y casas de guardas hallada a lo largo de los recorridos

The concept of “green routes” dates from a 1993 initiative by the former Ministry for Public Works, transpot and Environment. The aim of these routes is to transform disused railway lines into rural paths for walks, cycling and horse riding.Currently collaborating in the programe are RENFE, FEVE, regional govenments, provincial councils, associations of towns and local councils.The Spanish Railway Foundation co-ordinates the programme nationally. The Vía Verde progamme is completed by the individual institutions of each route, working on recovering the old train stations and guard houses along the routes.

·El 30 de Abril de 1875, D. Jorge Loring (posterir Marqués de Loring), estampó su firma en el proyecto de contrucción de la línea, en el enunciado de dicho proyecto, pdía leerse: "ligadas ya entre sí las ciudades más importantes de Andalucía por medio del ferrocarril, quedan aún comarcas enteras donde existen manantiales inagotables de riqueza... bien conocida es la gran importancia agrícola de ciudades como Lucena, Cabra, Martos y Jaén, cuya principal riqueza es conformada por la exportación de aceite, granos y caldos y que sin embargo, más alejadas de las vías férreas sienten entorpecido su comercio por los tardíos y defectuosos medios de transporteEl coste inicial del proyecto, fue cifrado entonces en 32.205.400 ptas (193.558,35 ?) y dos años después, el 18 de Julio de 1877, el boletín oficial "La Gaceta de Madrid" (más tarde BOP), publicada la concesión de esta línea a D. Jorge Loring y Oyarzábal, en representación del Sindicato Larios de Málaga y otros inversores. Como el Marqués de Gándara y el Banque Camond de París, que se unieron a los primeros con el propósito de fundar la Compañía de los Ferrocarriles Andaluces y que fuese esta, junto con el Ministerio de Fomento, quien acometiese el trazado y explanación de la obra. Paliando el efecto radial de los trazados ferroviarios, que realizaron las más importantes compañías, la Compañía de los Ferrocarriles Andalu-ces creada en 1877, acomete la construccion de una variante más corta para unir Madrid con Algeciras y Málaga, prestando al mismo tiempo, servicio ferroviario a una comarca emergente, dando salida hacia ambos puertos, la metalurgia pesada de Linares y los productos agroalimentarios de Jaén y sur de Córdoba, es por lo que nace "El Tren del Aceite".El 22 de Enero de 1893, el Sr. Contreras, Ingerniero Jefe de la nueva compañía, dirigió a los gobernadores de Córdoba y Jaén, sendos mensajes donde decía: "Tengo el honor de poner en conocimiento de V.E. que en el día de ayer, quedó abierta para su explotación, la totalidad del camino de hierro de Puente Genil a Linares." La nueva línea (1877), cuenta con 177 kms. de recorrido y 17 estaciones, de éstas, siete estaban en la comarca de la Subbética: Lucena, Cabra y Luque-Baena, de 2ª categoría, Doña Mencía de 3ª, Zapateros-Horcajo (el municipio de Moriles, se donominaba anteriormente Zapateros) y Zuheros (realizado con posterioridad) de 4ª y la cabecera de línea: Campo Real de 1ª categoría.La linea inició su primera crisis en los años cincuenta y la vía contem-plo el último paso del tren en 1985.

·Un total de 4 viaductos componen el recorrido de esta Vía. Los dos más importantes, producto de su longitud y la panorámica que propor-cionan son el Viaducto de la Sima con 132,30 mtrs. y el Viaducto de Zuher con 104 mtrs.; éstos dos, junto al Viaducto de los Dientes de la Vieja , son de rasante superior, diferenciándose del que existe sobre el Barranco del Alamedal , cuya rasante se puede calificar de inferior y que por su longitud es el tercero, con 70 mtrs., facilitando a su vez interesantes vistas.

·La Vía Verde de la Subbética cuenta con cinco estaciones y un apeadero a lo largo del recorrido. En la actualidad, dos de ellas están dedicadas a restaurantes (Luque y Doña Mencía). Por otra parte, la estación de Cabra alberga el Centro de Interpretación del Aceite, la estación de Lucena está a punto de terminar su rehabilitación y la estación de las Navas del Selpillar (Moriles-Horcajo), que se conserva en buen estado, en la actualidad tiene uso de vivienda, aunque en el futuro será la sede de un Centro de Inerpretación sobre el Vino, dado que la zona se encuentra en la comarca de los vinos con Denomi-nación de Origen Montilla-Moriles.

·Es el único que existe en el trazado, se localiza en el Pk. 81,48. Tiene una longitud de 139 mtrs, con un trazado en curva a la derecha. No tiene iluminación debido a que la visibilidad que presenta es aceptable.

On 30 April 1875, Jorge Loring (later the Marquis of Loring) added his name to the railway construction project, wich included the following extract: “with the major cities in Andalusia now linked by rail, there still remain entire districts with inexhaustive sources of riches...well known is the agricultural importance of towns such as Lucena, Cabra, Baena, Martos and Jaén, whose main source of wealth comes from exporting, cereals and wine, yet wich as a result of their distance from railway lines find their trade hindered by the overlong and defective forms of trasport”.The initial cost of the project was set at 32.205.400 pesetas, (193.558,35 euros) and two years later, on July 1877, “La Gaceta de Madrid” (later the B.O.P), announced that the line had been granted to Jorge Loring y Oyazábal, as representative of the Larios de Málaga Syndicate and other investors, such as the Marquis of Gándara and the Banque Camond of Paris, who joined the projet with the aim of founded the Andalusian Railway Company, wich would, together with the Ministry for Public Works, create the line and its infraestructure.In order to alleviatethe radial effect of the railway lines laid by the major companies, in 1877 the andalusian railway Company created a shorter route from Madrid to Algeciras and Málaga. This provided a rail service to an emerging area, with outlets to both ports for the heavy metalsminede around Linaresand the food products from Jaén and the south of Córdoba, leadingto what became as the old train.On 22 January 1893, Mr. Contreras, chief engineer of the new company, addressed the governors of Córdoba and Jaén, teling them: “It is an honour for me to inform you that as of yesterday, the entirety of the iron line from Puente genil to Linares is open for bussiness” The

·La vía está destinada a su uso por cliclistas y viandantes, el paso de caballos y jinetes estará sujeto a permisos y prerrogativas especiales de obligado cumplimiento.

·La utilización de las zonas dedicadas a deportes activos supondrá la aceptación de la normativa aprobada al efecto dentro del Plan Uso y Gestión de la Vía Verde.

·Cualquier iniciativa para la realizacion de concentraciones colectivas en la Vía Verde deberá solicitarse su permiso a la Mancomunidad de la Subbética o Fundación de la Vía Verde con una antelación mínima de una semana, salvo casos excepcionales.

·Queda prohibido bajo sanción el paso por la misma de ciclomotores u otros vehículos a motor.

·Los vehículos de los propietarios de tierras colindantes a la vía sólo podrán cruzarla en los pasos previstos al efecto.

·El uso de la Vía Verde de la Subbética está sometido a una ordenanza reguladora de obligado cumplimiento, al objeto de realizar un uso responsable de infraestructura.

Normas de uso·There are tour viaducts along the route. The most important of them, in terms of length and the views they provide, are the Viaducto de la Sima (Km) at 132.30 metres, and the Viaducto de Zuheros (Km) at 104 metres .These two, together with the Viaducto de los Dientes de la Vieja (Km), are more sloped, as opposed to the Barranco del Alamedal (Km), which is flatter and third in length at 70 metres, and also provid-ing some fine views.

·There are two Active Sports Areas along the Vía Verde de la Subbé-tica. These are located at two bridges, the Puente de Zuheros and the Puente de la Sima. These areas are fullyequiped for rock climbing, abseiling and bungee jumping. Use of these areas is subject to regulations.

Viaducts

·The Vía Verde is designed for use by cyclist and walkers.Horses and riders require permits and special mandatory conditions.

·The use of areasgiven over to active sports includes the acceptance of the applicable regulations wich form part of the Vía Verde Use and Management Plan.

·All proposals for collective gatherings along the Vía Verde must address the appropiate request to the Mancomunidad de la Subbética or the Fundación de la Vía Verde, with at least one week’s notice (certain exceptions notwithstanding)

·The use of motorcycles or other motorised vehicles along the Vía Verde is strictly prohibited, and will be sanctioned accordingly.

·Vehicles belonging to owners of land adjacent to the Vía Verdeare authorised to cross the route only at the crossings provided for this purpose.

·Use of the Vía Verde de la Subbética is subject to a mandatory regulatory ordinance, with the aim of the route’s infraestructurebeing used responsibly.

Viaductos Estaciones y apeadero

Tunel del Plantío

·Un total de 13 edificaciones de viviendas encontramos en el trazado repartidas entre casillas de paso a nivel (intersecciones de carreteras), casillas de obreros (personal de reparación del trazado ferroviario) y viviendas de ferroviarios (junto a las estaciones y dedicadas al jefe de estación), encontrándose todas ellas en diferente estado de conserva-ción. Algunas presentan un uso particular y dos, tal es el caso de ubicada en la Cruz Blanca y la Laguna del Salobral (Km 59,44) han sido rehabilitadas dentro del proyecto Vía Verde de la Subbética y dedicadas a usos informativos y recreativos.

·El centro recrea una estación de ferrocarril de 1920-1930. En él se contemplan diferentes salas y ambientes. De esta forma, nos encontramos un ámbito dedicado a la historia del Tren del Aceite y a la recreación de un andén ferroviario; otro que tiene por objeto el olivar en la Comarca, y otra parte del museo hace referencia a la Vía Verde de la Subbética.Las instalaciones se completan con bar, tienda de recuerdos y alquiler de bicicletas.

·En el trazado de la Vía Verde de la Subbética se locacizan dos Zonas de Deportes Activos.Éstas se ubican en el Puente de Zuheros (P.k 72,09) y en el Puente de la Sima (Pk 83,88)Las ZDAS están habilitadas para el desarrollo de actividades de escalada, rappel y puenting. su uso está sujeto a normativa

·There are six rest areas in all, with benches, picnic tables, rubbish bins and parking for bicycles.

·There are five stations and one stopping point along the Vía verde de la Subbética. Two of them (Luque and Doña Mencía) are now used as restaurants. The stopping point in Zuheros requires refurbishment. The Cabra station, meanwhile is home to the Oil train Information Centre, the refurbishment of the Lucena stationn is soon to be completed and the Navas del Selpillar station (Moriles-Horcajo), wich is in a good state of repair, is currently a private home, thought in the future it will be used as the offices of a wine information centre, as the area is in the wine producing district of the Denominación de Origen Montilla-Moriles.

Stations and stopping points

·This is the only tunnel along the route, and is located at Km. It 139 metres long, and curves round to the right. As visibility is acceptable, it has no lighting inside.

·There are 13 buildings used for housing alon the route, includinglevel crossing guard houses (where the tracks cross a road), workmen’s houses (used by railwayrepair crews) and the railwaymen’ s houses ( next to stations and used by the guard). Their state of repair varies; some of themare used privately, and two, at la Cruz Blanca and la Laguna del Salobral have been refurbished as a part of the Vía Verde de la Subbética project, and are now used for information and leisure purposes.

·The centre recreates a railway station from the 1920-1930 period, featuring various rooms and atmospheres from the era. For example, there is an area on the history of the Oil train, recreating a railway platform. Another area deals with the district’s olive groves, and a part of the museum is given over to the Vìa verde de la subbética. There is also a bar, a souvenir shop and bicycles for hire. The centre is located in the former Cabra Railway Station.

·This is the largest laguna in the subbética area. It is in a flat area, whit no changes in level, and is prospected as a nature reserve. It forms part of the South Córdoba Wetlands. It as a saltwater lake, and is home to large colonies of migratory species, with over twenty kinds of waterfowl. A recommended viewing points is El Mirador de la Laguna, which also has an information centre installed in a old level crossing guard house.

·Es la de mayor tamaño de las existentes en la Subbética. no presenta desniveles. El espacio tiene laconsideración de reserva Natural y se halla dentro de las zonas Húmedas del sur de Córdoba. Es de agua salada, siendo morada de destacadas especies migratorias, pudiendo contemplar más de una veintena de aves acuáticas. Recomendamos su contemplación desde El Mirador de la Laguna, así como visitar el centro de interpretación de la misma, que se ha instalado en una antigua casa de guarda de paso a nivel.
