I am a lifelong competitive windsurfer based on O`ahu. I am reaching out for your support in helping me to achieve my dream – to represent the Dominican Republic at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics for RS:X windsurfing and becoming the first Dominican windsurfer to ever qualify for the Olympics. While my roots are in the Caribbean, my heart is shared with Hawai`i, home to my family and where we own and operate a windsurfing and kiteboarding instruction business (www.sammyshawaii.com). I am an island boy with a passion for the ocean and 17 years of experience competing in various classes of windsurf, including slalom, formula, freestyle, & freewave. My enclosed resume highlights some of my competition achievements. The Federación de Vela Dominicana has endorsed me to compete in the Olympic qualifying races, provided I can secure the necessary financial sponsorship to participate. I have also found amazing coaching from 5- time US Olympian, Michael "Gebi" Gebhardt. However, the journey requires a significant investment; and, with a young family to support and a business to put on hold for training and travel, sponsors are critical to my success.
