Description:Montage project; Take a base image, and use masks and blending to add new pictures into the main.

Date: 06/02/14

Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 03Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:Learn how to use masks to blend imagesLearn how to use filters to enhance imagesBecome more familiar with Photoshop

Process: I used a picture of the constitution as my main picture. I then used a picture of an American flag, for this one, I blended the layer onto the first, and that was all. For each of the smaller images, I used a soft light or a hard light blend, and then I used a mask to softly bring them in to the main photo. I used a selection took to select the text “We The People… establish this constitution” to hopefully emphasize those six words, and then changed the saturation/hue of them to make the words stand out.

Description:This was for a project to demonstrate good photography skills, mixed with photoshop skill.

Date: 05/24/14

Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 03Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:Learn the basic skills of good photographyLearn how to enhance pictures in Photoshop

Process: I chose the Violin as my subject, and knowing that my violin was a brick color, I decided to go with a triadic color scheme. The case for my violin was conveniently blue, so I chose brick blue and green. After this, I knew I needed either some trees or grass to complete the color scheme, so I went to porter park to take pictures of the violin. After the pictures were taken, I changed the levels, the highlights/shadows, the hue/saturation, and did some edits in the channel mixer as well. All of these edits gave the appearance the photo now has, with more vibrant and engaging colors than the original photo. Then I used a quote from Berthold Auerbach about music. I aligned the quote in thirds along the photo, and changed the orientation of the authors name. I used F-holes from the violin to highlight the color scheme.

Description:Create a Brochure with at least 2 folds, front and back print.

Date: 7/13/14

Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 03Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools: Adobe IllustratorAdobe PhotoshopAdobe InDesign

Objectives:Create a brochure for a company Use paragraph Styling and text wrapCreate new logo for company

Process: For this brochure I used primarily InDesign. I created guidelines to use to know how to place each fold. I created the event to celebrate the most forgotten and unsung holiday, which is Constitution day. I used a picture of J. Reuben Clark and altered it in Photoshop, so I could use it to wrap text around. I created a logo in Illustrator using the tools I have learned from this class. I organized it all in InDesign, and inserted the words. For the revision I moved the paragraphs around, I fixed some of the fine details, moving text slightly to increase its aesthetics.

On September 17, 1787 This great nation signed the greatest political document the world has seen. Two hundred and twenty seven years later, the Constitution of the United States stands as a stumbling block to those who would destroy our freedom.

The C onst itut ion consists of 7 ar t ic les , 21 sec t ions , 42 clauses , and just over 4500 words ; this considerably shor t document has granted f reedom to hundreds of mi l l ions of people spanning 4 separate centur ies .

Description:Business Card for the company D.C.I.T (David and Chris Information Technology) of which I am a part.

Date: 6/14/14

Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 03Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools: Adobe InDesignAdobe Illustrator

Objectives:Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image.Design consistent layouts for a business card.Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.

Process: I created the logo in illustrator. I used the two letters D and C, and I put a visible stroke on the D and changed the arrangement so that part of the D was overlapping the C, and vice versa. I added a small gradient to add some texture to the design, but in my revision I removed it due to critique I received. Using the effects tool, I put a small dropshadow on the letter C to add some depth.

Description:A Letterhead to match the business card for DCIT

Date: 6/14/14

Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 03Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools: Adobe InDesignAdobe Photoshop

Objectives:Create a letterhead to match the business card for a company I designed a logo for.

Process: I created the logo in illustrator. I used the two letters D and C, and I put a visible stroke on the D and changed the arrangement so that part of the D was overlapping the C, and vice versa. I changed the design of the letterhead slightly. While spending large amounts of time on it, I opted to go for a very similar design to the original, but with an added line for clarity.

Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 03Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools: Notepad++

Objectives:Apply design principles learned in class to a website using HTML and CSS.

Process: I used a logo from the logo week project as the main idea for my website. I kept it very simple. I used CSS to style the website, and HTML to create the content.

Description:Make 3 different logos using Illustrator.

Date: 6/7/14

Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 03Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:Imagine, design, and create 3 unique logos.Learn the process of creating a logo in Illustrator.

Process: I used illustrator for each of these. I primarily used the text tool for some basic shapes, and then the pen tool and shape tool for extra lines and shapes. Most of the design took place in the sketching phase, which made the illustrator phase significantly easier. I used the CTRL + D to add the lines through the middle design, and then at the end I added the color to adhere to the color scheme rules.

Description:Black and White flier to promote the ‘graduate leadership conference’. First project done.

Date: 5/10/14

Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 03Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools: Adobe InDesign

Objectives:Create a flier to advertise for the Graduate Leadership Conference using the tools in InDesign

Process: : I used inDesign to put all the images and graphics together. I created textboxes with the rectangle tool, and then used the gradient tool. I used Photoshop to make the photo appear as though the mans arm was coming out of the picture. My revisions to this were changing the background behind the words “Graduate” “Leadership” and “Conference” as well as behind the text on the lower right part of the page. Instead I went for lines around them, that I think work better. Before it was a badly done gradient.
