  • Located on the outskirts of the an-cient Chinese civilization, Beijing became the bulwark of foreign powers that occupied China in the North between the 10th and 12th centuries. The Liao dynasty esta-blished here their southern capital, the most accredited of all five of the Kingdom. The Jin dynasty, the fo-llowing barbarian dynasty under-took a large urban project the image of the capital of the Northern Song, Kaifeng. In 1215 the Mongols de-vastated the city, but 50 years later Kublai Khan decided to build the new capital in it.

Colossal imperial villa containing complex of imperial palaces were in the South-Central area of the layout grid. The Yongle Emperor, the third Ming, decided to move the capital to Beijing. Walls on the northern side were moved more towards the

South so the imperial palace complex, the so-called forbidden city, remain exactly in the center of the plane. Thus the structure of the new Beijing repre-sents the pinnacle of Chinese traditio-nal urbanism, based on the Organiza-tion introduced by the Mongols as well as the structure of the imperial palaces of Kaifeng, and Nanjing also take into consideration the rules of Chinese geomancy. Beijing is one of the four municipalities of China, which are under the direct control of the cen-tral Government and provincial status. Beijing has been a municipality since the creation of the Peoples Republic of China. It is one of the most popu-lous cities in China, only overtaken by Shanghai in terms of population. It is also an important node of communica-tion, since it possesses multiple railway lines, motorways and roads. It is recog-nized today as the social, political and cultural heart of China.

  • The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) pinyin: Guji d jyun; literally: National Grand Theatre), and colloquially described as The Giant Egg, is an opera house in Beijing, Peoples Republic of China. The Centre,

an ellipsoid dome of titanium and glass surrounded by an artificial lake, seats 5,452 people in three halls and is almost 12,000 m in size. It was designed by French architect Paul Andreu. Construction started in December 2001

and the inaugural concert was held in December 2007.Architecture

is said to look like an egg floating on water, or a water drop. It was designed as an iconic feature, something that would be immediately recognizable.

The dome measures 212 meters in eastwest direction, 144 meters in northsouth direction, and is 46 meters high. The main entrance is at the north side. Guests arrive in the building after walking through a hallway that goes

underneath the lake. The titanium shell is broken by a glass curtain in northsouth direction that gradually widens from top to bottom.

The location, immediately to the west of Tiananmen Square and the Great Hall of the People, and near the For-bidden City, combined with the theatres futuristic design, created considerable controversy.[3] Paul Andreu

countered that although there is indeed value in ancient traditional Chinese architecture, Beijing must also include modern architecture, as the capital of the country and an international city of great importance. His design, with large open space, water, trees, was specially designed to complement the red walls of ancient buildings and the

Great Hall of the People, in order to melt into the surroundings as opposed to standing out against them.
