La sabana de Bogotá fue asiento del pueblo Muisca. Los indios Muiscas, hábiles artesanos y formidables orfebres, dominaban complejas técnicas para moldear el oro.

Un ejemplo de su extraordinaria creatividad es la BALSA MUISCA, que representa una de las ceremonias que dieron origen a la leyenda de EL DORADO.

Esta leyenda motivó la aventura de los conquistadores españoles a estas tierras; entre ellos a GONZALO JIMÉNEZ DE QUESADA, quien descubrió la sabana de Bogotá y fundó la ciudad el 6 de Agosto de 1.538, con el nombre de “Santa Fe de Bogotá”.

El choque primero y la fusión después de las dos culturas; la española y la indígena, dieron origen al mestizaje racial y cultural, que es una de las características de la ciudad de Bogotá.

A l r ededo r de l pob lado , se f ue desarrollando la ciudad y lo que hoy es el barrio la Candelaria, se convierte en el sector mas representativo de la Bogotá Colonial.

Al caminar por sus estrechas calles, observar las casonas o Iglesias, se puede apreciar el estilo español de los siglos XVI, XVII y XVIII, que nos recuerdan el glorioso pasado.

Luego vino la independencia de Colombia, el 20 de Julio de 1810 y con la República, la ciudad se fue transformando poco a poco, copiando otros estilos arquitectónicos y mezclándose con el original, hasta llegar a la Bogotá de hoy.

Bogota´s savannah was seat of the Muiscas town. The Muiscas indians were skilled craftsmen who dominated complex techniques to mold gold.

An example of his extraordinary creativity is the Muisca Raft, which represents one of the ceremonies that gave rise to the legend of El Dorado.

This legend led the adventure of the spaniards conquerors to these lands, among them GONZALO JIMENEZ DE QUESADA , who discovered and founded the savannah of Bogota, on August 6th of 1538, giving it the name “Santa Fe de Bogotá”.The shock and then the fusion of the two cultures, spanish and indian, gave origin to the racial and cultural mestization that is one of the main characteristics of Bogotá city.

Around this first town the city began its development in what is now la Candelaria. This neighborhood, it is one of the most representative sectors of the Bogotá colonial.

HORARIO DEL COMERCIO

Los establecimientos comerciales por lo general atienden de 9:00 a.m. a 8:00 p.m. de lunes a sábado. PLAZA DE BOLÍVARCalle 10 a 11 entre Cras. 7 y 8 - (Centro)Sede de las instituciones mas represen- tativas de la nación y de la ciudad. A su alrededor se encuentran: el Capitolio Nacional, la Alcaldía Mayor de Bogotá D.C. el Palacio de Justicia, la Catedral Primada , el Palacio Arzobispal y la Casa de Nariño, sede del poder ejecutivo y residencia del Presidente de la República.

CATEDRAL PRIMADACarrera 7 No.10 -20 - (Centro)Después de muchos factores adversos fue reconstruida varias veces entre 1538 y 1823 y terminada por Nicolás León. Consagrada como Catedral Primada en 1823. En su interior tiene sólidas columnas, capillas y altares que datan de los siglos XVII y XVIII. Guarda los restos de famosos personajes de la historia Colombiana.

PALACIO LIÉVANO - ALCALDÍA MAYOR DE BOGOTÁCarrera 8 No.10-65 - (Centro)Este edificio ocupa toda la fachada occidental de la Plaza de Bolívar, en lo que antes fueran las galerías de Arrubla, destruidas por un incendio en 1900. Su construcción fue ordenada en 1902.

PALACIO / CASA DE NARIÑO Carrera 8 No.7-26 - (Centro)Construido en 1905 bajo la administración del General Rafael Reyes, no sólo es la casa del Jefe de Estado sino que en el funcionan las principales dependencias de la Presidencia de la República. El inmueble fue adquirido por el Gobierno en 1888.

CAPITOLIO NACIONALCalle 10 entre Carreras 7 y 8 - (Centro)Es la mejor obra del periodo Republicano en Colombia y uno de los edificios de mayor valor arquitectónico de la ciudad. Su construcción tardó 79 años (1847-1926).

TEATRO COLÓNCalle 10 No.5-32 - (Centro) Inaugurado el 27 de Octubre de 1895, ha sido desde sus inicios uno de los centros culturales más bellos y mejor conservado.

CATEDRAL PRIMADA (The Prime Cathedral Of Bogotá)

Due to some adverse factors, it had to be reconstructed several times, between the years 1538 and 1823. Terminated by Nicolás León and consecrated as Cathedral in 1823. Inside, contain paintings and carvings dating from the XVII and XVIII centuries.

This building occupies all the western side of the “la plaza de Bolívar”, which used to be “las galerías de Arrubla”, destroyed by a fire in 1900. Its construction was ordered in 1902 .

PALACIO DE NARIÑO (Presidential Palace) - Carrera 8 No.7-26 - (Downtown)

Built in 1905 under the administration of General Rafael Reyes, it is not only the house of the president but also it is the p lace where work a l l the dependencies from the president administration. The building was acquired by the government in 1888.

NATIONAL CAPITOL

It is the best structure of the republican period in Colombia. It’s appreciated for its great architectonic value. Its construction took 79 years (1847-1926).

S A N T U A R I O D E G U A D A L U P E (sanctuary) (Next to Monserrate)It is located on the hill adjacent to Monserrate. El Shrine was built in 1600. Currently there is a chapel at the top is the statue of “Virgen de Guadalupe” extending his arms towards the city.

LOS ESTIGMAS (Church)Calle 16 , carrera 7- (Downtown)Also known as the "La tercera". It is said that the name of "La tercera" is that between Avenida Jimenez and calle16 with carrera séptima, are located three churches: San Francisco, La Veracruz and the Estigmas (the Third).

LOURDES (Church)Carrera 13 , Calle 63 - (Chapinero) First built in Gothic style in 1875, but in 1917, the ambitious original proportions were modified. Polychrome stained glass highlights of German origin.

SANTUARIO DE GUADALUPE (Sanctuary) - Located next to Monserrate, at a height of 3317 meters above the sea level. In 1940 it was rebuilt and erected a statue on top of the hill, which really belongs to Mary Immaculate, although the mountain is known for four centuries as Guadalupe.

Los municipios que rodean a Bogotá D.C. ofrecen a los visitantes el encanto de sus hermosos paisajes, su arquitectura, sus gentes campesinas y deliciosos platos típicos.

CAJICÁ Población famosa por los tejidos de lana, las alfombras y los tapetes; es usual hacer una parada para degustar helados, dulces y amasijos.

TABIO ( 48.1 Kms)

En lo alto del cerro que domina el poblado se encuentra la ermita de Santa Bárbara, construcción que data de 1604Los termales de Tabio ofrece piscinas con aguas de propiedades terapéuticas.

Saliendo por la Autopista norte y por la variante de Cajicá, a la izquierda se aprecia el Puente del Común, construido en 1785. Abundan los restaurantes de comida típica y parrilla ; las almojábanas, los dulces y los postres complementan la oferta gastronómica.

COTA (26.4 Kms.)Cota es un municipio pequeño dedicado a la agricultura, y a la venta de comidas y platos típicos de la región. Cuenta con variados restaurantes que venden los platos del folclore Cundinamarqués.

LA CALERA (19.5 Kms.)En la vía a la Calera y a partir del kilometro tres se encuentran zonas de parqueo con miradores. En las horas de la noche los restaurantes, tabernas y discotecas ofrecen variada programación y la vista diurna y nocturna que se aprecia de la ciudad es extraordinaria. Hay planes como cabalgatas, recorridos de aventura, parapente, cuatrimotos y caminatas ecológicas.

SALINAS DE ZIPAQUIRÁ (Zipaquirá salines) (53.2 Kms)

The Salt Cathedral was reopened in 1995, carved inside a salt mine and unique in the world That makes memory of the Stations of the Cross of Jesus Christ. Inside is a rich collection of art and marble sculptures in an environment filled with a deep sense of religion.

MELGAR (110 Kms)

Temperature: 26ºC. Melgar is a place near Bogota, where you can go the weekend to rest on their farms or hotels.

SOPÓ (48.3 Kms)

Founded in 1612, in the main park you can visit the Church of the Divino Salvador, because inside contains twelve paintings; the "12 angels of Sopo". At 300 meters is the sanctuary of the "Señor de la Piedra", which was found in 1753 in which it appears the image of the Divine Face.

SALTO DE TEQUENDAMA (32.9 Kms)

In this place you can see a spectacular cascade where the waters of the Bogotá river fall 132 meters over the lip of the plateau.

LAGUNA DE GUATAVITA (Gatavita´s lagoon) (58.4 Kms)

It is a sacred lake where was practiced of the ritual by the Muiscas indians. In this beautiful and quiet waters was originated the famous legend of “The gilded one”.

Temperatura: 26ºC. A 2 horas de Bogotá. Melgar es un lugar donde los Bogotanos se escapan los fines de semana para reposar en sus fincas y hoteles.

SOPÓ (48.3 Kms)

Fundada en 1612; en el parque principal se puede visitar la iglesia del Divino Salvador, pues en su interior, guarda doce lienzos; los 12 ángeles de Sopó. A 300 metros se encuentra el santuario del Señor de la Piedra, aparecida en 1753 en la que aparece la imagen del Divino Rostro.

SALTO DE TEQUENDAMA (32.9 Kms)

Este es un lugar donde el río Bogotá tiene una caída de 132 metros.

LAGUNA DE GUATAVITA (58.4 Kms)

Un lago sagrado y centro de ritos de los indios Muiscas (Chibchas). Este lago hermoso y calmado dio origen a la leyenda de “EL DORADO”.

PUENTE DE BOYACÁ (133 Kms)

El puente esta localizado cerca de la ciudad de Tunja. Es un sitio histórico muy importante donde el 7 de Agosto de 1819, se llevo a cabo la batalla decisiva para obtener la Independencia de Colombia.

VILLA DE LEYVA (177 Kms)

Fué fundada en 1572 por Andrés Díaz Venero de Leyva. Es un pueblo auténticamente colonial.
