DOESGOOD
• Saatchi LA employees use one mile of post-it notes per week
• The average American generates
4.39 pounds of trash per day
GREEN UNIT - 09.12.07
THE FACTS
• If you stacked up all
the paper Saatchi LA
uses in 1 month, it
would be over 90 feet
tall, almost twice the
height of the building.
THE FACTS
GREEN UNIT - 09.12.07
• 40 million water bottles are placed
somewhere other than a recycle bin every
day in the U.S. It takes 450 years for
each bottle to break down.
• 94% of Saatchi LA employees don’t
carpool to work and 57% don’t even
carpool to TMS. Yet if the average
commuter carpooled every day, he or she
would save 500 gallons of gasoline and
550lbs of poisonous exhaust emissions
every year.
THE FACTS
GREEN UNIT - 09.12.07
• This office goes through 20,250 cups, plates, bowls, napkins, and utensils per month.
WE’RE TAKING ACTION
•Internal survey to gauge habits
•Working with Toyota to learn from their revolutionary green campus and guide our effort
•Official audit scheduled
•Print Production has reduced the number of agency reprints and increased paperless workflow
•Implementation of softproofing. By using this new method for Tundra resizes alone, we saved what would have been enough miles to drive to New York and back 2.9 times.
•Designating paper tray for re-claimed paper to print drafts and internal documents
•Instituting use of electronic presentations when possible
•Consolidating and discontinuing unnecessary periodical subscriptions, and donating left over magazines
•Everyone shall receive a personal water containment device
•Adding recycled plastic/glass bins to each floor in the common areas
•Organizing rideshare program
•Ensuring recycle bins are in each copy room and appropriately labeled
•Researching Efax (electronic faxing)
•Tinting the office windows to cut down on heating/cooling energy consumption
WHAT YOU CAN DO
•Think before you print (Do you really need that in hard copy? Can you just save it to your computer?)
•Use reclaimed paper for drafts and internal use
•Print and copy double sided
•Carpool to work, TMS, and lunch when possible
•Turn off lights and computers before you leave
•Take advantage of natural light before turning on your own lights
•Cancel unnecessary subscriptions to publications (multiples, and people who no longer work here)
•Use electronic presentation methods instead of printing hard copies
•Bring a Plant to Work Day
•Use only as many paper towels to dry your hands as are necessary
•A lot went to waste to make this point, don’t make us have to say it twice
