The Gospel Challenge: The Gospel of Mark This week we begin the Gospel of St. Mark. Many scholars believe that the Gospel of Mark was the first gospel written, and that it was written in Rome where the early church was suffering persecution. There is evidence that Mark was a companion of St. Peter and that he also knew the apostle Paul. His gospel calls us to become disciples of Jesus, but that this response will involve suffering as we, like Jesus, take up the cross. Mark Chapter 1 Reflection Questions: St. Mark’s Gospel is the shortest, if you had to describe your faith and what Jesus does for you in your life in just a few sentences, what would you say? Jesus heals the mother-in-law of Peter, reflect about how the Lord has healed you or a loved one and touched your heart. How can you help others come to Jesus?
Mark Chapter 2 Reflection Questions: In this chapter, four men bring their friend to Jesus for healing. Who can you bring to Jesus for healing and strength? Jesus calls Levi the tax collector from his life of sin and temptation to follow Him as a disciple. Do you see the dignity of all men and women and do we show people in our lives the respect and love they deserve as children of God?
Mark Chapter 3 Reflections: Jesus calls the Twelve Apostles in this chapter. How is Jesus calling you to proclaim the gospel in your life and circumstances? Jesus is challenged and rejected by friends and family. How do you respond when people challenge you or accuse you of being “crazy” for following Christ and the Church He founded?
Mark Chapter 4 Reflection Questions: In baptism, we are given the light of Christ to keep safe and we are called to keep the light burning brightly in our hearts. How can you bring the light of Christ to your family, workplace, school, and community?
Mark Chapter 5 Reflection Questions: After the crowd witnessed Jesus cast out the demons from the man in Gerasene, the people are astounded but also still hostile to the truth Christ brings. Do you have the courage to admit your brokenness and your need for Christ to others who are suffering from not knowing Him?
Mark Chapter 6 Reflection Questions: Jesus speaks the words, “Be not afraid!” This is a reminder and message that fear and the anxiety can overwhelm you and at times over take your life. What is holding you back from putting all of your faith in His hands?
Mark Chapter 7 Reflection Questions: Jesus returns to the Decapolis where He was once rejected, but now our Lord is accepted and heals the sick. So often, we want to ignore or avoid those who reject us, but as followers of Jesus we remember that we are called to always forgive. Is there a person in your life that needs the light of Christ, but that you have been avoiding because of a bad experience?
God Bless you and your family, Father Vince
Dios te bendiga a ti y a tu familia, Padre Vicente

October is Respect Life Month October is known as Respect Life Month – a time for us to focus on caring for life in all situations from conception until natural
death. There are many ways that our society tries to devalue life: by promoting the horror of abortion or killing the unborn as
healthcare, to the misplaced “compassion” of assisted suicide and euthanasia. As a Catholic, we are supposed to be people of life – protecting it for our vulnerable brothers and sisters, and walking with those who are suffering, so that each person’s life is valued
– as it is in God’s eyes.
Join our LIFE CHAIN on Sunday, October 7th!! As we have for the past several years, we will have a LIFE
CHAIN in front of St. Lawrence Church, along the White Horse Pike on Respect Life Sunday. This is an event that is taking
place across our diocese, as well as across our country! We will stand in silent prayerful witness to the sanctity of human life from 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. Please gather at 1:15 at Our Lady’s
outdoor shrine to receive instructions and signs. At 2:30, we will gather around Our Lady and pray the Rosary.
