FAMILIAR

En marzo se llevó a cabo la Mañana Familiar de nuestro colegio, en la cual se presentan las famosas gimnasias rítmicas, se convive con la familia, se come delicioso y se goza al máximo.

¿Por qué fue tan especial?

Primero, el campeonato de básquet de papás y alumnas entretuvo a todos en los tiempos libres. Después, la variación de la música en los bailes divirtió al público y le dio un nuevo toque a los actos. Finalmente, el último baile de V Curso sorprendió a todos por su originalidad y alegría: fue memorable.

Los almuerzos practicando bajo el Sol, las peleas entre las compañeras para escoger la música, el esfuerzo para sincronizar un solo paso, la decisión del color del vestuario...

Todo este trabajo en equipo es el que nos hace crecer, pues nos obliga

a compartir ideas, a respetar diferentes gustos, a tomar decisiones como equipo, a descubrir nuevos talentos en la clase y a aprender a dialogar y gozar cada momento que tenemos juntas.

Al final, ¡todo el esfuerzo vale la pena!

La niña que llora, temerosa del mundocomo una sirena, se hunde en su mar profundoporque la soledad al llorares como el canto de las sirenas en el mar.

Nadie escucha el canto de las sirenas,pues nadie cree en ellaspor eso están solas, en medio de las olas,igual que la niña que llora.

Risas y pena ajena después de ver la entrevista de la Primera Dama Sandra de Colom en CNN. Indignación cuando a algún amigo le roban el BlackBerry. Hasta enojo cuando vemos a la policía sin suficientes conos, esposas, y otras herramientas para hacer su trabajo.

Y así, nos vamos quejando de lo que “es Guatemala hoy en día”, de “la ignorancia y poca cultura de Guatemala”, etc. Pero, ¿cuántas veces nos preguntamos, qué parte de ése índice ha sido creado por mí? ¿Cuántas veces he tirado basura en las calles, en mi colegio, en áreas verdes, en vez de depositarla en basureros o reciclarla correctamente, mostrando mi poca cultura y educación?

Muchas veces hablamos de “la Guatemala violenta, ignorante y corrupta”, sin darnos cuenta que al robar un examen, quedarnos con dinero tirado u otras cosas de valor, al profesar una fe u otros principios y hacer lo contrario, somos parte de esa corrupción e hipocresía a menor escala.

Y así nos referimos a Guatemala en tercera persona, ignorando la raíz de la gran problemática hoy en día, que es el negar el hecho que Guatemala esta compuesta por cada uno de nosotros, cada uno de sus habitantes.

Es hora de crecer como personas, convirtiéndonos en ciudadanos maduros y responsables, que se den cuenta que siempre que han tomado cosas que estaban tiradas que no les pertenecían o se van de algún lugar sin pagar, son parte del porcentaje de robos y delincuencia, que cada vez que roban un cono de tránsito, están robando impuestos de todos, que cuando no nos educamos lo más que podemos, somos parte de ése índice de ignorancia, que cuando entorpecemos el trabajo de otros mostramos nuestra poca cultura.

Es tiempo que dejemos de quejarnos de los políticos y otros funcionarios corruptos, ya que ellos probablemente iniciaron sus acciones en contra de la ley, desde que de jóvenes practicaban o se veía normal romperla en “insignificantes cosas” como lo hacemos nosotros, e iniciar una revolución interior, empezar a construir la Guatemala del futuro…

Y en realidad no importa si ríe o se lamentaporque a nadie le importaver a la sirena de esa forma.

No ven que la felicidad intenta alcanzaral igual que no verán ni por azar a las sirenas en el mar.

UN TERCIO DE LAS PERSONAS USAN SU SMARTPHONE ANTES DE LEVANTARSE DE LA CAMA.

¿Qué haces normalmente después de despertarte en la mañana? ¿Agarras tu celular y empiezas a ver tus mensajes? Según un estudio dirigido por Ericsson Consumer Lab, “un 35% de la población estadounidense

utiliza una aplicación de su Smartphone antes de levantarse de la cama por las mañanas. Como es esperado, el 18% de estas aplicaciones son de redes sociales, específicamente Facebook.”[1]

Esto ha estado evolucionando al pasar los años; antes de

tener Smartphones, las personas se sentaban frente de una

computadora por cierto tiempo y utilizaban el internet. Hoy en día, las personas con sus Smartphones usan el internet con más frecuencia, en cualquier lugar y momento.

El estudio también muestra que para el consumidor es más importante el uso de las aplicaciones, que el tener un

Smartphone. Por ejemplo, las personas no dicen al despertarse “quiero usar mi celular”, sino dicen “quiero

chequear mi cuenta de Facebook”. Estos muestran el impacto de los Smartphones y las redes sociales que

tienen en la sociedad actualmente.

Es una situación preocupante porque la sociedad de ahora depende más en la tecnología y lo que ha traído

el avance de ésta. Le hemos dado más prioridad a nuestros Smartphones en nuestras vidas, y hemos ido olvidando lo que es más importante. Hay que estar pendiente

de no descuidar nuestra vida social y nuestros deberes de todos los días.

Describe your fears of being a

teacher.

Elvira: My greatest fear is that students don’t understand what I explain. Groups of students change

every year, goal explanations have to

change too. The teacher has to

investigate background information

and update objectives so the class is always interesting.

Caroline: Being a teacher defies all fears. It is a blessing to be able to

leave a positive and lasting impact on

someone’s life. But as a person, I fear settling for mediocrity, passivity, lack

of ambition and mostly not being

able to make a change. I have the fear of all humans: being forgotten.

Diana: I teach what I know and what I am. My biggest fear is to be confused

for any reason and set a bad example for my girls.

Vilma: Working in the IB program, I guess it would be to make sure that the students have acquired all the

necessary skills.

Describe yourself with three

adjectives.

Elvira: Reliable, organized and

structured.

Caroline: Ambitious, positive and

honest.Diana: Strict, responsible and caring.

Vilma: Enthusiastic, happy and

easygoing.

What is the craziest thing you have

done?

Elvira: Once I dressed as a clown for a

class and my students were very surprised because I’m a very formal and serious person most of the time!

Caroline: The craziest thing I have

done is changing my whole life for a

new one. Coming to Guatemala is definitely a challenge and an

adventure. But I believe it is awesome

to have a chance to start a family with

someone you love. So, I am enjoying

every minute of my craziness!!

Diana: Borrowing the idea to perform

a funny play for the students and

forcing the teachers to participate in

it. I never asked for authorization, I just make the script and gave each

teacher a role.

Vilma: Lucky for me, I don’t think I’ve

ever done “crazy” things.

What do you think is the first impression you give to students?

Elvira: Strict, structured and

organized, but at the same time I hope they feel they can count on me

as a friend whenever they need me.

Caroline: I hope a good one! Hahaha!

Honestly, I know that the first impression might be a little

intimidating, but I know for sure that they feel they are in trustworthy hands. They know that the person in

front of them is direct, knowledgeable and fair. And as time

passes, they understand that it is a

partnership, where the well being of both parties is a priority. But what I truly hope, is that they feel that what triggers me as a teacher and as a

human being are two things: love,

and respect but above all love for the

bible says:“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.”

Diana: They think I’m strict but funny.

Vilma: Nice, a teacher students can

count on.

Jaime Viñals ha sido el único

centroamericano que ha llegado a la

cima del Everest y de las “Siete

Cumbres”.

Mónica Fernández Robles es dos veces campeona mundial en la

triatlón Ultraman, en donde se recorre

un total de 370 kilómetros.

Gisela Morales, nadadora, fue

campeona de Centroamérica y del Caribe en Mayagüez 2010 con dos medallas de oro.

The 2011 Presidential Elections of Guatemala are perhaps one of the most controversial elections ever in the history of the country. This may be due to the fact that Guatemala does not have a two- party system like the United States.  Instead, it has a multi- party political system. The good side of having multiple political parties in the election process is that people have more options to give their vote to compared to a two – party system. However, the bad side of having multiple political parties is that it doesn't enable the parties to grow and be strong enough to compete in the election. Having many parties and proposals may confuse people when they have to decide on who to vote for.

People who become confused by so many parties find themselves thinking of who they don't want to be elected as their leader, rather than who they do. It is important for our generation to derive from this way of thinking. The solution for this is that when voting, people should get to know each party thoroughly before making their decision on who to vote for. It is true that the people “in power” do not

have all the power in their hands, but they are the ones making decisions and organizing the country because the population chooses them to. It is important to know that we, as citizens, have power too. We are the ones who give the leaders the power by voting for them. It is also  important to know that we do not have to be a member of the government in order to help Guatemala improve and grow as a country. 

The biggest percentage of the population in Guatemala extends from the ages of 0 to 24 years. Just think about it: you are part of this force unseen in society, the young generation, which has in its hands more than it can imagine. We, as the young people in the country, have fresh new ideas and great expectations about our future and love for freedom. Think about what you can do in this world and think about what you can do for this little country that is in urge for you, in urge for your ideas, expectations, will power, and all that you are.

GET INSPIRED!Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. Look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism u true. Think only of the best, work only for the best,and expect only the best. Forget the mistakes of the past and press

on to the greater achievements of the future. Give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. Live in the faith that the whole world is on your side so long as you are true to the best that is in you!
