Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

July 1, 2018

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

Jesus took the child by the hand and said to her,

“Talitha kuom,” which means, “Little girl, I say to

you, arise!” [Mark 5: 41]

The gospel is remarkable today in the way Jesus en-

counters two women and heals them with such great

sensitivity. Both of them are surrounded by chaos and

layers of complications. The younger has only lived as

long as the elder woman has been ill. Jesus heals them

both in an intimate way, for all healing is personal and

intimate, asking us to move beyond our fears and com-

municate our needs to the one who is only waiting to

nurture us into life.

The elder woman is afraid to be discovered as even

touching Jesus, because social stigma has marked her

out as an outcast, an “untouchable” because of her flow

of blood. After he seeks her out and she opens up about

her story, Jesus says her faith “saved her.” This contrasts

distinctly with the young lady, whose father has inter-

ceded on her behalf. Jesus takes only his trusted friends

into the house of her parents to help her. Sizing up the

situation, Jesus relates mercifully to both women, pro-

tecting their fragile walk of faith.

Questions for the week: How have you stood up for

the very young and the very old? What are you doing

this summer time to study God’s Word? [hint: God’s

Word Among Us]

Your Pastor, Fr. Bob

Loaves and Fishes Sunday: Thank you for br inging

non-perishable food items this Sunday for the Food Panttry.

Domingo Trece en el Tiempo Ordinario

1 de julio, 2018

Queridos Feligreses y Amigos:

Valoran-

Word from Pope Francis

Palabras del Papa Francisco:

The Parish Family Celebration of July 4: A Family gather-ing early on the Wednesday morning of this coming July 4 to celebrate a simple Mass outside, at 9 AM, will be followed by a shared brunch (in the hall if the heat is high already). Let’s plan on a Happy Parish Family Fourth of July!

“Through the celebration of the Anointing of the Sick, the Church accompanies us in facing the profound mystery of suffering and death. In a culture which all too often re-fuses to speak of these realities, we need all the more to recognize the beauty of this Sacrament and to appreciate, in spiritual solidarity with the Lord Jesus, who strength-ens us in faith and hope, and reminds us that nothing-not even evil and death-can ever separate us from the saving power of his love.”

Loaves and Fishes Sunday: Thank you for br inging non-perishable food items this Sunday for the Food Pantry.

Peter’s Pence Second Collection: This is Pope Francis’ way of being able to travel internationally to do charity

works and help heal global poverty and devastation.

The Knights of Columbus are at it again!! The Knights of Columbus donated $400 to our Youth Group as a matching amount of profit for their recent spaghetti dinner back in May that the knights along with the youth group had for the congregation. Thanks for your support of both groups. The Knights of Columbus also donated funds ($400.00) for the improvements to the children’s play yard area

behind the auditorium and thanks to Joe Woodruff for contributing his physical work and overseeing of the project with members of the Youth Group.

Regards: Bob Interval

“See you in September …!!??” We know that everyone needs to enjoy some time away and vacations can be holy times of refreshment

and renewal for our families. But PLEASE, remember your parish family in your faithful tithes through the summer months because we

still have to pay for the electricity and functioning of buildings even while we are away at play.
