Poultry farming is raising various types of domesticated birds such as chickens ducks, turkeys and geese for the purpose of meat, eggs

and food.• At akate farms (KNUST) layer are reared.• Identify problems faced by the farmers.• Suggest solutions to their problems

METHODOLOGY• Data was collected by interacting with the workers.• Brainstorming amongst each other

PROBLEMS • Over crowding• Outbreak of disease• Unsuitable environment for the birds to lay eggs• Pecking of eggs• Contamination of feed• Attack by animals.• Health impairment of workers

SOLUTIONS• Extension or widening of animal house. Fewer birds

in the coups.• Frequent immunization.• Enough material to cushion eggs when laid.

Blocking the wire mesh to prevent eggs from falling through

• Debeaking the birds and regular collection of eggs.• Testing of feed to determine the quality of feed.• Regular change of wire mesh. Putting up a fence and

the use of scare crow.• Provision of noise masks
