ESES Adentrarse en El Campello significa descubrir las huellas de las principales civilizaciones del Mediterráneo. Os invitamos a recorrer los puntos histórico - monumentales más emblemáticos de este bello municipio junto al mar.

LA ILLETA DELS BANYETS: PREHISTORIA, ÍBEROS Y ÉPOCA ROMANAEn el Yacimiento de “La Illeta dels Banyets”, uno de los más importantes del Mediterráneo, encontramos vestigios que datan de la Prehistoria: del Calcolítico y la Edad de Bronce. De especial relevancia es el poblado Ibero, que indica que se trató de un rico asentamiento productivo relacionado comercialmente con otras culturas mediterráneas. De Época romana destacan unas pequeñas termas y las piscifactorías, construcciones excavadas en la roca que han dado nombre al enclave, pasando a la tradición popular como “Els Banyets de la Reina” al creerse que se trataba de los baños de una reina mora.

EDAD MEDIA Y RENACIMIENTOEn el siglo XVI, para evitar las incursiones de los piratas Berberiscos, se construyó un sistema de torres vigías a lo largo de toda la costa, de las que en El Campello se conservan dos: la Torre del Barranc d’Aigües y la Torre de La Illeta, símbolo para los campelleros y emblema de la localidad.

SIGLOS XVIII Y XIXEn el S.XVIII se construyó la primera parroquia en el Convento de los Mercedarios. A finales del siglo, la instalación del primer astillero en la desembocadura del Ríu Sec dio lugar a una importante industria pesquera y al desarrollo del barrio marinero, hoy núcleo turístico. Del S.XIX data la Finca Villa Marco, compuesta por un palacete de estilo modernista y con influencias del arte colonial francés, rodeado por jardines de inspiración versallesca en donde encontramos dos esculturas del artista alicantino, Vicente Bañuls.

LA ILLETA DELS BANYETS: PREHISTORY, THE IBERIANS AND THE ROMAN PERIODIn the Archaeological site of ‘La Illeta dels Banyets’, one of the most important in the Mediterranean, we find the remains that date back to the Prehistory: Copper Age and Bronze Age. Of particular relevance is the Iberian settlement, which is identified as a rich productive settlement that had strong trade links with other Mediterranean cultures. From the Roman period, some small thermal baths stand out, but especially the fish farms constructed directly in the rock. The enclave has been named after these last constructions and it´s popularly known as Els Banyets de la Reina (the Baths of the Queen) as it was believed that the baths belonged to a Moorish queen.

THE MIDDLE AGES AND THE RENAISSANCEIn the 16th Century, to prevent the constant incursions by the Barbary pirates, a system of watchtowers all along the coastline was constructed. Two of them still stand in El Campello: The Barranc d’Aigües one, on a clifftop, and the Tower of La Illeta. The latter represents a true icon for the people of El Campello, as it is the town’s emblem.

18TH AND 19TH CENTURY The 18th Century saw the construction of the first parish church, the Convent of the Mercedarios (the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy). Towards the end of the century, the town’s first shipyard was built at the mouth of the Riu Sec (Dry River). This would give way to the important fishing industry and the development of the maritime district, which is now the main tourist and leisure area. The Villa Marco estate dates back to the mid-19th Century. It is composed of a mansion in the modernist style with French colonial art influences nestled in gardens following the style of those at Versailles where two sculptures, by Vicente Bañuls, are located.

Entre éstos destacan los servicios gratuítos de Biblioplaya y Ludoteca, así como un Área de Discapacitados totalmente accesible, cuyos objetivos son la asistencia y desrrollo de actividades lúdico-pedagógicas, ofreciendo un respiro a los familiares.Al sur, destacan las extensas playas, de arena fina y dorada, del Carrer la Mar y de Muchavista, que constituyen el centro de ocio. ESEN With a length of 23 km (14 miles), El Campello offers a varied and attractive coast for the enjoyment of everybody. The defence and conservation of its shores has earned the blue flag distinction for its beaches in addition to the ISO 9.001, of Quality, and ISO 14001 certificate, for environmental management, thanks to the quality of bathing water, the cleanliness of the coastal area and its services and facilities. Between these services stand out those without charge of beach library and playroom, as well as a totally accessible Area of Disabled persons, whose aims are the assistance and development of pedagogic activities, offering a break to the relatives.On the South, stand out the long beaches, of gold fine sand, of Carrer la Mar and Muchavista, which are the leisure centre of the village. To the North of El Campello lies a series of cliffs and secluded coves with crystal clear water. ESES La excelente combinación de entorno natural, climatología, servicios e instalaciones deportivas de El Campello, hace posible la práctica de multitud de deportes durante todo el año. En El Campello encontrarás sin duda un marco incomparable para practicar tu deporte favorito. DEPORTES NÁUTICOSLa Escuela de Vela ofrece durante todo el año cursos de vela, remo y kayak. En las playas de El Campello se pueden practicar otros deportes como el Kitesurf, Windsurf, Paddle Surf y Surf, además, los fondos marinos también atraen a numerosos visitantes. Prueba de ello es que El Campello cuenta con un centro de buceo que organiza rutas y visitas a los puntos más interesantes. OTROS DEPORTESEl municipio posee dos polideportivos que en los que se puede realizar múltiples actividades: fútbol, baloncesto, tenis, voleibol,…y muchas otras disciplinas. Los amantes del golf disponen igualmente de dos campos muy próximos, el de Bonalba y Alicante Golf. Una extensa variedad de restaurantes hará las delicias de los paladares más exigentes. Entre los platos más típicos de El Campello destacan: el Caldero campellero, arroz a banda, fideuá, olleta borda, etc.

eventos gastronómicosgastronomic eventsESES Un reflejo del esmero y cuidado por la gastronomía en El Campello es la celebración, en algunos de sus más afamados restaurantes, de Jornadas Gastronómicas en las que se constata y demuestra que las nuevas artes culinarias combinan perfectamente con los sabores tradicionales de la tierra y el mar.

receta caldero campelleroINGREDIENTES PARA 8 PERSONASPara el caldo: ½ kg. de pescado variado de molla azul por persona, 4 cucharadas soperas de aceite de oliva, 1 tomate maduro, una cabeza de ajos.Para el arroz: 1 kg. de arroz, 3 cucharadas soperas de aceite de oliva, 1 ñora, 1 pimiento rojo a tiras, 1 tomate maduro rallado, 1 calamar o sepia, ¼ kg. de gambas.

Preparación para el caldo:Limpiar y trocear el pescado, salar durante una hora y desalar. Sofreír los ajos, la ñora y el pimiento y apartarlos. Se da una vuelta a las piezas de pescado y se reservan, por último se sofríe el tomate añadiendo 4 L. de agua. Se incorpora el pescado cuando empiece a hervir. Añadiremos sal y el majado de ñora y ajos y hervir.

Preparación del arroz:Sofreímos el pimiento hecho a tiras en sartén y lo apartamos. Después se sofríe la sepia o el calamar a trocitos y tras unas vueltas se sofríe el tomate. Añadimos el arroz y removemos. Se vierte el caldo del pescado caliente (1 taza de arroz = 3 tazas de caldo). Cocinar a fuego vivo de 8 a 10 minutos y otros 10 minutos a fuego lento, hasta que se consuma el caldo. Al bajar el fuego se colocan las tiras del pimiento ya sofrito y las gambas.

ESEN A reflection of the conscientiousness and taken care by the gastronomy in El Campello is the celebration, in some of its more famous restaurants, of Gastronomic Tasting Dates. They demonstrate that the new culinary arts blend perfectly with the traditional products from the land and the sea.

caldero campellero recipeINGREDIENTS FOR 8 PEOPLEFor the broth: ½ kg of lean blue fish per person, 4 soup spoons of olive oil, 1 ripe tomato, 1 bulb of garlic.For the rice: 1 kg of rice, 3 soup spoons of olive oil, 1 flora pepper, 1 red pepper (strips), 1 ripe tomato (grated), 1 squid or cuttlefish, ¼ kg of prawns.

Preparation of the broth:Clean the fish and cut into pieces, salt for an hour and then remove the salt. Sauté the garlic, nora pepper in the pot and remove. Lightly fry the fish pieces and remove. Finally sauté the tomato and add 4 litres of water. Add the fish when it starts to boil. Add salt and the flora pepper and garlic and boil.

Preparation of the rice:Sauté the strips of pepper in a large frying pan and set aside. Sauté the pieces of squid or cuttlefish and then add and sauté the tomato. Add the rice and stir. Pour in the hot fish broth (3 cups of broth per cup of rice). Cook on high heat for 8 to 10 minutes and a further 10 minutes on low heat until the broth has been consumed. When you lower the heat, add the fried strips of pepper and the prawns.
