BBVA concede el IV Premio INTEGRA a la

cooperativa catalana La Fageda

� El Premio INTEGRA de BBVA, puesto en marcha por la entidad en 2008, tiene como objetivo reconocer la labor de aquellas iniciativas innovadoras que generan empleo de calidad para personas con discapacidad

� En la edición 2012, el IV Premio INTEGRA, dotado con 200.000 euros, ha recaído en la entidad gerundense La Fageda, cooperativa catalana de iniciativa social sin ánimo de lucro creada en Olot en 1982

� La Fageda tiene como finalidad la integración laboral de las personas de la comarca de la Garrotxa (Girona) que sufren discapacidad intelectual o trastornos mentales severos. En la actualidad forman parte de la cooperativa un total de 287 personas, de las cuales 157 sufren alguna discapacidad

� Además, otros seis proyectos han sido reconocidos con dotaciones de hasta 50.000 euros cada uno por su trabajo para la mejora de la calidad de vida de las personas con discapacidad

� Este premio se enmarca dentro del Plan INTEGRA de BBVA, que impulsa la integración laboral y promueve un mayor conocimiento y sensibilización de las necesidades y potencial de las personas con discapacidad

BBVA, a través del Premio INTEGRA, que este año celebra su cuarta edición, ha reconocido la labor de la cooperativa catalana La Fageda, otorgándole el galardón, dotado con 200.000 euros. La Fageda tiene como finalidad la integración laboral de las personas de la comarca de la Garrotxa (Girona) que sufren discapacidad intelectual o trastornos mentales severos. En la actualidad trabajan en la cooperativa un total de 287 personas, de las cuales 157 sufren alguna discapacidad. Enmarcado dentro del Plan INTEGRA de BBVA, este premio está destinado a impulsar la excelencia e innovación en el emprendimiento social y en la integración laboral de las personas con discapacidad, así como fomentar la igualdad de oportunidades y mejorar la calidad de vida de este colectivo.

El Premio INTEGRA BBVA se entregó por primera vez en 2009 y es una iniciativa puesta en marcha por BBVA para reconocer la labor de aquellas organizaciones sin ánimo de lucro o emprendedores autónomos que desarrollan proyectos de integración laboral de personas con discapacidad e impulsan el desarrollo de iniciativas y buenas prácticas en este ámbito de actuación. La Fageda se convierte en el cuarto ganador de este premio, dotado con 200.000 euros. Al premio se presentaron 160 candidaturas, que han sido valoradas por un Jurado integrado por Emilio Sáez (Federación Empresarial Española de Asociaciones de Centros Especiales de Empleo - FEACEM), Luis Cayo Pérez (Comité Español de Representantes de Personas con Discapacidad - CERMI), Sabina Lobato (Fundación ONCE), Enrique Galván (Confederación Española de Organizaciones a favor de las Personas con Discapacidad Intelectual - FEAPS), Pedro S. Moyano (Confederación Española de Personas con Discapacidad Física y Orgánica - COCEMFE), Francisco de los Ojos, (FEAFES empleo), Txema Franco (Lantegi Batuak, entidad ganadora del premio INTEGRA en 2011), Víctor Bayarri, secretario del Jurado, y Patricia Bueno, directora de Responsabilidad y Reputación Corporativas de BBVA en España y Portugal, que presidió el Jurado.

La Fageda La Fageda es una cooperativa catalana de iniciativa social sin ánimo de lucro creada en Olot en 1982, donde todas las personas que trabajan, tengan o no certificado de discapacidad, son socios, y por lo tanto, propietarios. Tiene como finalidad la integración laboral de las personas de la comarca de la Garrotxa (Girona) que sufren discapacidad intelectual o trastornos mentales severos. En la actualidad, trabajan un total de 287 personas, incluidas usuarios y profesionales. Las actividades productivas de la cooperativa son eminentemente agrícolas y se desarrollan dentro del marco administrativo de un Centro Especial de Empleo: una granja de vacas para la producción de leche, la planta de elaboración de productos lácteos, una sección de jardinería, una actividad de horticultura y conservas y un taller de manualidades. En La Fageda se desarrollan, además, distintas actividades asistenciales: un Servicio de Terapia Ocupacional, pisos asistidos para los trabajadores y diferentes actividades de ocio, que persiguen mejorar al máximo la calidad de vida de sus usuarios, personas con discapacidad intelectual y enfermedad mental crónica. El Jurado del premio ha destacado “la excelencia en su gestión empresarial, social, laboral y medioambiental, con un compromiso claro con su entorno más próximo, a través de un producto competitivo y de alta calidad”.

Mental Health Europe publishes press release calling on European leaders to step up the deinstitutionalization process

As we speak, 300,000 Europeans are locked up in psychiatric wards. Some literally, as the right to consent was stripped away from them due to their mental health problems, and others figuratively, as the lack of community-based services left them with no other options. Moreover, closed psychiatric institutions have long been regarded by both researchers and by mental health service users as inefficient, outdated, and unable to adequately protect against human rights abuses and prevents from re-integration and inclusion in society. Tragedies such as that of a Czech woman killing herself after being forced into a caged bed happen all too often, and only very few of them are made public by the media.Therefore, on the International Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of

Victims, Mental Health Europe called on European leaders to acknowledge that closed institutions cannot protect people from exploitation and abuse, to step up the deinstitutionalization process, and to offer viable alternatives for people with mental health problems to get support in the community. It is time for the inhuman, degrading, and sometimes torturous practices that are used behind closed doors in such institutions to be stopped, once and for all. Furthermore, persons with mental health problems should be empowered to take decisions regarding their treatment and accommodation, should enjoy legal capacity on an equal basis with others in all aspects of life, and should be provided with any support they may require in exercising their rights.The first proposal on regulating the post-2013 period of Structural

Dear members,

March went very quickly, as it was full of the events, meetings and activities we have the pleasure of sharing with you in this issue. The training of our National Focal Points was the highlight of March. MHE had the pleasure of welcoming 30 representatives from National member organisations to Brussels, for two days of capacity-building, sharing experiences and preparing the six seminars which will take place this autumn in different European countries. A report on the training will be included in our next newsletter.MHE also took the opportunity to mark a couple of international days in March – the International Women’s Day on March 8, where we called for commitment and funds to end domestic violence against women , and the newly declared UN Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims, on March 24. In our press release for this day, MHE called on European leaders to acknowledge that closed institutions cannot protect people from exploitation and abuse, to step up the deinstitutionalization process, and to offer viable alternatives for people with mental health problems to get support in the community.

men. To counter this, the Swedish National Association for Mental Health will, in the autumn of 2012, launch a webservice and a campaign to diminish the number of suicides in Sweden. It is a long term-project with the aim to mobilise a large number of stakeholders, in order to diminish the number of suicides by 50% by 2022. The webservice, available at www.prataomlivet.se, will first and foremost target young people, aged 15-25. The campaign wishes to tackle the stigma attached to mental health problems, and support persons to feel that they can openly talk about their circumstances and feelings. The campaign will also include information and knowledge sharing through seminars, publishing reports and a yearly conference on the issue. Specialised volunteers will provide the service, and will receive continuous training by experts.

Fundacion INTRAS launches E-Learning platform for trainers and educators working with vulnerable people

MHE Spanish Member Fundacion INTRAS, in partnership with other European NGOs, has launched a project aimed at providing tools and resources based on the use of art in education, as well as supporting the exchange of knowledge and mutual cooperation among educators, therapists and artists targeting people suffering from mental health problems and other adults at risk of social exclusion. ARTERY is a Multilateral Grundtvig Project funded with support from the European Commission. It is meant to be a compilation of educational techniques and training scenarios that can be

further used in implementing art-based workshops in any country. Furthermore, other organizations and individuals are invited to present their own materials and contribute to the exchange of knowledge.

Ozara develops project on domestic violence

MHE Slovenian member Ozara, along with a number of European researchers and NGOs, has embarked on a project on training women victims of domestic violence, as well as mental health service providers, on the links between domestic violence and

mental health. The project aims at empowering women affected by domestic violence to express negative feelings in a safe environment, teaching them coping behaviors, self management and use of mutual support networks through a series of interactive workshops. Moreover, it aims to encourage some of the women beneficiaries to become group facilitators. Another goal of the project is to training mental health providers on domestic violence issues and on how to work with women who have both mental health problems and who are experiencing domestic violence.

Update on the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing

The European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing has been set up by the European Commission to add two healthy life years to the average healthy lifespan of European Citizens by 2020. This could be accomplished by improving the health status and quality of life for older people, supporting health and social care systems and expanding new markets that enable novel technology and innovation.The partnership, including stakeholders such as health NGO’s, industry, and local and regional governments, decided to focus on three main issues: prevention and early diagnosis, cure and care, and independent living. Up until now, the focus has been very much pointed towards addressing barriers that prevent innovation and products to access the market. This limits the scope of problems that older people are facing, particularly those who experience mental health problems. On several occasions MHE has raised the point that this is a narrow perspective on active

and healthy ageing.As the Strategic Implementation Plan for this platform has been approved, the European Commission launched a call for commitment to participate in priority actions that have been defined. This call is not for funding, but asks participants to get involved in one or more of the actions that are listed below:- Prescription and adherence action at regional level- Fall prevention initiative- Action for prevention of functional decline and frailty- Replication and tutoring integrated care for chronic diseases, including remote monitoring at regional level- Development of interoperable living solutions, including guidelines for business models- Innovation for age friendly environmentAn overview of calls for proposals for projects in support of the innovation partnership is available here.The deadline for expressing commitment is 31 May 2012.If commitment to one of the priority actions is not an option then the ‘marketplace for innovative ideas’ is an alternative that the European
