Las acciones conjuntas del Estado provincial, municipal y elsector privado, interesados en poner en valor el centro histórico,sumado al aporte invalorable de la iglesia hacen que el “PlanDirector”siga caminando con el claro objetivo de recuperar el brillode la ciudad para el turismo y sus habitantes. La obra en elMonasterio fue la tercera etapa del plan que comprendió lacolocación del piso de la nueva peatonal, árboles, nivelación de lacalle, ensanchamiento de veredas y estrechamiento de la calzada.Para separar dichos espacios se utilizaron 70 bolardas y bajo elasesoramiento del Centro de Investigaciones Acústicas yLuminotécnicas de la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba se resolvióla iluminación de la calle y fachada del museo. Este tratamientointegral incluye intervenciones en propiedades privadasfavoreciendo el entorno inmediato y sumando un espacioconsonante con el místico interior imposible de soslayar.

The joint actions of the provincial and municipal State and the privatesector, interested in making the historical center valuable, added to theinvaluable contribution of the church make the “Plan Director” go on withthe clear aim of recovering the brightness of the city for the tourism and itsinhabitants. The Monastery’s work was the third stage of the plan thatincluded the placing of the floor in the new pedestrian area, the trees, thelevelling of the street, the widening of the sidewalks and the narrowing of thestreets. To separate those spaces, 70 bollards were used and with the advice

of the Acoustic and Lighting Technique Investigations Center from theNational University of Cordoba it was decided the illumination of the streetand the museum facade. This complete treatment includes interventions inprivate properties favouring the immediate environment and adding a spacethat matches with the mystical interior which is impossible to overlook.

La fe y el profundo amor a un hijo cambiaron la vida de lafamilia Tejeda-Guzmán que, desde los comienzos formaron partede la historia cordobesa.El matrimonio de Juan y Ana con sus cinco hijos alternaban losdías entre la casa ubicada en el solar sudoeste de la plaza mayor yla apacible estancia de Soto. La tranquilidad se transformó enzozobra, cuando descansando en la estancia vieron como sedesvanecía la vida de la hija menor, fue en ese momento que donJuan prometió a Santa Teresa de Jesús crear un convento yentregar su hija a la vida religiosa. La gracia fue concedida pero lapromesa olvidada. Al poco tiempo la niña cayó nuevamenteenferma y Don Juan en un desesperado intento de recuperarlaretomó la promesa pendiente y milagrosamente Alejandrita serecuperó.Así fue que la vivienda familiar se transformó en

hermana de Juan, le siguieron en la vocación religiosa las dos hijasy la madre después de quedar viuda, formando de este modo laprimera comunidad carmelitana, hoy la más antigua de Américadel Sur.En el año 1970, se inaugura junto al primer patio y las habitacionescircundantes el museo de arte religioso Juan deTejeda que albergalas joyas mas preciadas del pasado colonial.

The faith and deep love for their son changed the life of Tejeda-Guzmán family who, from the beginning, formed part of Cordoba history.

The married couple Juan and Ana with their five children alternated thedays with the house situated in the southeast side of the main square andthe peaceful Soto farm house (estancia). Tranquility turned uneasy, whenresting in the farm house they saw their little daughter’s life coming to anend. It was at that time that Don Juan promised Santa Teresa de Jesús thathe would create a convent to make his daughter enter religious life. The grace

was given but the promise forgotten. A short time alter, the girl fell illagain and Don Juan in a desperate attempt to recover her took up

the pending promise again and miraculously Alejandritarecovered.

Thus, the family house became a Monastery, solemnlyinaugurated in 1628. She enters as Superior Doña

Leonor de Tejeda and Miraval, Juan’s sister. She wasfollowed in this religious calling by her two

daughters and her mother after becoming a widow,forming in this way the first Carmelita community,

today the oldest one in South America.In the year 1970, the religious art museum Juan de

Tejeda is inaugurated next to the first patio and thesurrounding rooms, it shelters the most

valued jewels from thecolonial past.

Atravesando el océano llegó a Córdoba a comienzos del sigloXX un rollo que contenía el diseño de la casa mas emblemática de“los Altos del Sur”. Por su estilo lujoso, la gente que la habitó,personalidades ilustres que la visitaron, anécdotas, y fantasmas“elPalacio Martin Ferreira”, cúspide de la aristocrática Avenida HipólitoIrigoyen, constituye el fiel testimonio de la Belle Epoque cordobesa.

Las posibilidades económicas le hubieran permitido levantar laCasa Grande en los lugares mas cotizados del mundo, pero el amora su tierra hizo que el propietario apostara fuerte en la Docta, así el

Dr. Martín Ferreyra inspirado en un catálogo francés eligió para sumorada el modelo del palacio de Kessler. Ernest Paul Sanson, uno delos arquitectos mas preciados de comienzos del siglo XX dirigió laobra desde Francia y el ingeniero Luis Agote la construcción hastaterminarla en el año 1916. La combinación de estilos Luis XIV, y LuisXVI se funden entre el exterior, interior y mobiliario dando comoresultado ese aire señorial. Mas de cinco mil metros cuadradoscubiertos distribuidos en cuatro niveles, cuatro armónicas fachadas,35 dormitorios, 19 baños, 424 metros lineales de reja artísticaperimetral, un jardín diseñado por el arquitecto paisajista CharlesThays, sala de esgrima, gimnasio, billar y jardín de invierno son partedel interminable listado de comodidades que esta mansión ofrecíaa la familia integrada por el reconocido cirujano, María de lasMercedes Navarro Ocampo y sus siete hijos: Martín, Horacio, MaríaIsabel, Estalisnao, Ramón, Jorge Enrique y Rosa Malvina.

Dos años después de la inauguración, una congestión pulmonarterminó con la vida del dueño de casa, pero varias generaciones desu descendencia la habitaron y la disfrutaron en la cotidianeidad,veladas con honorables huéspedes o en fastuosas fiestas familiareshasta que, tras haber sido ocupada por oficinas de la canteraMalagueño, el gobierno de la Provincia de Córdoba decidecomprarla, restaurarla y ponerla en valor para instalar el museo deBellas Artes mas vanguardista de todos los tiempos. Con estadeterminación se pone fin a un sinnúmero de conjeturas acerca desu destino: ni hotel; ni shopping; ni derrumbe. Por siempre: “SuMajestad, el Palacio Ferreyra”un Museo para todos.

Crossing the ocean, at the beginning of the XX century a roll thathad the design of the most emblematic house from “los Altos del Sur”arrived in Cordoba. Due to its luxurious style, the people that lived there,the famous personalities that visited it, anecdotes, and ghosts, “MartinFerreyra Palace”, pinnacle of the aristocratic Hipólito Irigoyen Avenue,constitutes the accurate testimony from Cordoba Belle Epoque.

The economic possibilities would have allowed him to build theGrand House in the most sought-after places in the world, but the lovefor his land made the owner bet strongly in the Docta. Thus, Dr. MartínFerreyra inspired by a Frech catalogue chose Kessler palace model forhis dwelling. Ernest Paul Sanson, one of the most respected architectsfrom the beginning of the XX Century directed the work from France andthe engineer Luis Agote its costruction until being finished in 1916. Thecombination of Luis XIV and Luis XVI styles are fused among the exterior,interior and furniture giving as a result that noble aspect. More than fivethousand covered square meters distributed on four levels, fourharmonious facades, 35 bedrooms, 19 bathrooms, 424 lineal meters ofsurrounding artistic railing, a garden designed by the landscapearchitect Charles Thays, a fencing room, a gymnasium, a pool and agreenhouse are part of an endless list of comforts that this mansionoffered the family. It was made up of the renowned surgeon, María delas Mercedes Navarro Ocampoand and their seven children: Martín,Horacio, María Isabel, Estalisnao, Ramón, Jorge Enrique y Rosa Malvina.

Two years after the inauguration, a lung congestion caused thedeath of the owner of the house, but several generations from hisdescendants lived there and enjoyed it in their daily lives, evenings withhonorable guests or in splendid familiar parties until, after beingoccupied by offices from Malagueño quarry, the government of theProvince of Cordoba decides to buy it, restore it and make it valuableto set up the most avant-garde Fine Arts museum of all times. With thisdecision a great many conjectures about its destiny finish: no hotel; noshopping center; no demolition. For ever:“His Majesty, Ferreyra Palace”a Museum for everyone.

Otoño, 1934. El tradicional Barrio Güemes se oscureciópor completo para los sueños de una jovencita que, tras lasincera confesión de una amiga, comprueba que el hombrede su vida mantenía una relación oculta con otra mujer: “sulegítima esposa”. Su moral y principios no soportarían latrampa, por lo que resolvió buscar ayuda, partir con suencono y no pecar de perfidia.Como comprendiendo y aceptando la decisión, el vilamante le propuso una despedida; la cita… en el lugar desiempre Obispo Salguero casi esquina Bv. San Juan; �

a la hora señalada ella ingresa luciendo flamantes zapatosnuevos, con el dolor de la despedida a cuestas pero altiva ydecidida a olvidar este tramo de su vida y dar comienzo aotro en una ciudad inmensa y desconocida que la cobijaríagracias a la recomendación de la patrona del taller de costuraquien, generosamente y a pesar de perder una empleada novaciló en colaborar por el buen nombre de la joven.Ese fatídico día fue el final: una tina repleta de agua y muchorencor dieron fin a la vida de la joven y nacimiento a uno delos mitos más conocidos de la Ciudad de Córdoba: EL CASORAMONITA MORENO. Veinticinco años tras las rejas fue elprecio que pagó Telésforo Garcia, por el egoísmo de creer quesi no era de él no sería de nadie, sin imaginar que por esaalevosía sería de todos los que creyeron en ella.Como los Reyes Magos siguiendo la estrella, tres niños guiadospor el brillo de aquellos flamantes zapatos nuevosdescubrieron el cuerpo de Ramonita en una barranca de lacalle Brasil. En ese mismo lugar se levantó una gruta que �

rápidamente se transformó en depositaria degenerosas limosnas, pedidos y agradecimientos por milagrosconcedidos, desde la aparición de un escrito que decía:“Graciasfinadita por el favor recibido”. Esta veneración creció tanto quesus deudos (Padre y dos hermanos) debieron organizar el culto:recoger las ofrendas, controlar las velas encendidas ycontabilizar el dinero quien sabe para quien, ya que las malaslenguas aseguraron que la familia se sostenía gracias a lafinada. Hoy, casi en el olvido sigue el misterio: Mito o milagro?,Santa o simple especulación familiar?, ¿ Quien dejó aquelpapel con el primer agradecimiento?.

Autumn, 1934. Thetraditional Güemes Neighborhooddarkened completely for thedreams of a young girl who, afterthe honest confession of a friend,confirmed that the man of his lifekept a secret relationship withanother woman: “his lawfulwife”. Her moral and principleswould not bear the cheating, soshe decided to look for help,leave with her anger and not beblamed for treachery.

As if understanding andaccepting the decision, the vilelover proposed her a farewell;the date… at the usual placeObispo Salguero street almoston the corner of Bv. San Juan; at the timeagreed she enters wearing brand-new shoes, with the pain of the farewellon her back but haughty and determined to forget this part of her life andstart another one in an immense and unknown city that would shelter herthanks to the recommendation of the female employer from the seamfactory who, generously and having lost an employee, didn’t doubt inhelping for the good name of the girl.

That fateful day was the end: a bath full of water and a lot ofresentment put the girl’s life to an end and to the birth of one of the mostwell-known myths of the City of Cordoba: Ramonita Moreno’s Case.Twenty-five years in prison was the price Telésforo Garcia had to pay forthe selfishness of believing that if she didn’t belong to him, she would’tbelong to anybody, without thinking that for that treachery she wouldbelong to everybody or at least to the ones who believed.

Like the Magi following the star, three children guided by the brightnessof those brand-new shoes dicovered Ramonita’s body in a gully of Brasilstreet. At that same place a grotto was set up and rapidly became a depositof generous alms, prayers and gratitude for given miracles, since theappearance of a document which said: “Thank you deceased girl for thereceived favor”. This veneration grew so quickly that her family (Father andtwo brothers) had to organize the worship: pick up the offerings, check thelighted candles and count the money, who knows for whom, sinceaccording to gossip the family made their living thanks to the deceased.Today almost consigned to oblivion the mystery continuous:Myth ormiracle?, Saint or mere family speculation?, ¿ Who left that paper with thefirst gratitude?

Pocas ciudades argentinas mantienen con el esplendororiginal su legado jesuítico. En la Docta la bondad del clima, lanobleza de los materiales utilizados y el esmero con quegeneraciones posteriores continuaron vigilando el estado deconservación fueron factores determinantes para que las joyasarquitectónicas dejadas por los hijos de Loyola se presentenerguidas y ufanas como desafiando al tiempo.

El caso de la Capilla Doméstica, recientemente restauradapresentó un daño en el recubrimiento interno dela bóveda, cielo raso y retablo. Para recuperarlase realizaron trabajos casi quirúrgicos a cargo deequipos especializados. Se procedió areemplazar las piezas destruidas por las termitas,(que trabajaron por más de cincuenta años paracasi destruir todo) y utilizando técnicas similaresa las originales se logró devolver a la Ciudad“Laniña bonita”sana y salva.

Esta Capilla era utilizada por los jesuitas paralas prácticas de piedad diaria, por esa razónocupaba el lugar central de la casa. Se comienzaa construir en 1643 en base a una plantarectangular orientada hacia el este, utilizandopiedra cortada unida con cal. La bóveda estáformada por nervios semicirculares de maderaseparados unos de otros. El espacio entre estosestá unido por un armazón de cañas tacuarasunidas con tientos de cuero crudo al que seadhirieron cueros estirados y encoladosrevestidos con gelatina y yeso, luego cubiertoscon dibujos policromados de motivos vegetalesy los nervios con oro laminado. El retablo decedro paraguayo es una joya de belleza incomparable. A comienzosdel siglo XX, la edificación sufre importantes modificaciones envirtud de la nacionalización de la Universidad, por lo que seconstruye la portería y el ingreso a la casa por calle Caseros.

Few Argentinian cities keep their Jesuit legacy with the samesplendor as in the XVII Century. At the Docta the mildness of theweather, the distinction of the used materials added to the carefulcare with which subsequent generations continued keeping an eyeon the state of preservation were determining factors for thearchitectonic jewels, left by Loyola’s children, to be presented upright andproudly as defying time.

The Domestic Chapel case, recently restored presented a damage in theinternal covering of the vault, ceiling and altarpiece. In order to recover it,almost surgical works were carried out that were in charge of a specializedequipment. The pieces destroyed by the termites were replaced, (they workedfor over fifty years to destroy everything) and using similar techniques to theJesuits it was able to bring back to the City “the beautiful girl” safe and sound.

This Chapel was used by the Jesuits for the practices of daily devotion, for

that reason it was centrally situated in the house. It beganto be built in 1643 on the basis of a rectangular plantoriented towards the east, using cut stone joined withlime.The vault is formed by wooden semicircular ribsseparated from each other. The space among them isjoined by a shell of decorative canes joined with rawleather to which streched and glued leather covered withgelatin and plaster was added, then covered with

polychromatic drawings with vegetable motifs, while theribs were covered with rolled gold. The Paraguayan cedar altarpiece is a jewelof incomparable beauty. At the beginning of the XX century, the buildingwent through important modifications by virtue of the nationalization of theUniversity, for that reason the porter’s lodge and the entrance to the House on

Caseros street was built.

Todo comenzó en el siglo XVII cuando los Jesuitasllegaron a Guanusacate para crear un establecimiento ruralque permitiera, con sus frutos, mantener el gran proyectoeducativo“la Universidad”. Tres siglos y medio después la historiase repite, cuando un grupo de hombres y mujeres de generososcorazones, con el objetivo de recaudar fondos para mejorar la calidadeducativa de miles de niños de la región se unieron conformando unaasociación cooperadora y casi sin darse cuenta dieron a luz al festivalmas importante del Continente en su género el Festival Nacional eInternacional de Doma y Folclore.
