“You can’t miss it” is the term used by touristic guides to persuadeand suggest relevant places of any city. Precisely this is the most appropriatedescription to refer to this authentic jewel located in the heart of thehistorical center of the City of Cordoba: Juan de Tejeda Colonial ReligiousArt Museum. The four-year sign “closed for refurbishments” is no longer there, today itopened its doors to show tourists and the local people not only the authentictestimonies of monastic life but also pieces of religious images, XVII andXVIII pictorial expressions that belonged to different schools form Cuzcoand Quito, silvers mithing and carpentry, among other pieces of immensevalue. This synergy is shown through the joint work of Cordoba Town Hall, the Archbishopric and themuseum Foundation which made possible the reopening of this treasured space, it has its roots.Forty-six years ago the Town Hall proposed the Archbishopric the creation of a Colonial Religious ArtMuseum, by virtue of the demolition of the buildings that surrounded the Cathedral and which lodgedits valuable treasure.

That agreement consisted in that the nuns from Las Carmelitas descalzas de SanJose Monastery, owners of the solar inherited by the Tejeda family, had to approve

unanimously the grant of the first patio in permanent usufruct to create the museum, whereas the Town Hall would build a new entryway and parlor. Thus, after aprovisional opening first, it was definitely opened on December 8th 1970 with thename of Juan de Tejeda Colonial Religious Art Museum, in homage to the previousowner of the house.Once you enter the patio it will become an experience full of silence, full of mystery

and with the aroma of the orange trees, while the tour through the eight renovatedrooms will make you think that, effectively, if you come to Cordoba you must visit it.

The interest of human beings for nature started with his/her existence, looking for shelter, foodand remedies for diseases. With the passing of time this interest was reflected in theincorporation of the Natural Sciences in the Universities, as a formal study of these disciplines. In 1876, in those days the Physics-Mathematics Sciences School opened its doors, at presentMathematical and Natural Sciences School of the National University of Cordoba. The firstprofessors were those men of Prussian Science, called by the President of the ArgentineRepublic Domingo F. Sarmiento, who successively created the Botanical Museum, theGeology and Mineralogy Museum, the Zoology Museum, and the PaleontologyMuseum, pillars of development of the Argentinian Natural Sciences. However, the first approach to the Natural Sciences took place during the Jesuitperiod, since among the schools of the Compañia de Jesus Order the scientificexchange and the circulation of the manuscripts that accumulated informationabout natural history was promoted. The Jesuit manuscripts include historical andethnographic tales, as well as descriptions of the geography, flora and fauna.Among them the works of Pedro Lozano, Nicolas del Techo, Anton Von Sepp,Martin Dobrizhoffer, Florian Paucke, Thomas Falkner, Francisco Javier Iturri, JoseCardiel, Jose Jolis, Ulrico Schmidl, Jose Sanchez Labrador y Jose Guevara, among othersare recognised.Currrently, at the UNC-Jesuit Block Historic Museum, we invite you to learn more about the study ofthe Natural Sciences at the UNC, through a new temporary exhibition that links five UniversityMuseums and the Museum of the Academy of Sciences, which form part of the Jesuit Block.

If you stop at Plaza España Square in Nueva Cordoba neighbourhood and turn360 degrees little by little, your eyes will see an eclectic and fantasticlandscape formed by the fresh and green environment thatSarmiento park provides, the old big houses witness to the BelleEpoque and the new avant-garde urban ornaments; everythingharmoniously combined to spend a whole day in the

neighbourhood being entertained.

But if you do not have the time to tour every corner of this beautifulneighbourhood, we offer the possibility to discover one at a time. For

example, on 622 Av. Hipólito Yrigoyen there is a new space, it isDionisi Palace,a “quasi-museum”, of particular characteristics.

Dionissi Palace, designed in 1920 by the architect Miguel Arrambide based oncharacteristicts of the French arquitecture, is an amazing building where almost everything is

original, with great quality details and finishings imported from Europe. Its original owner was JuanKegeler, owner of one of the most important hardware stores in Cordoba at the beginning of the XXcentury; Margarita Kegeler, heir in charge of the house, married the well-known doctor HumbertoDionisi where the current name of the quasi-museum comes from.

At present Dionisi Palace, occupies just one part of the definition of museum since it is aimed at thethree-dimension; in the exhibitions there is a little of everything, so heterogeneous. The pieces hereexhibited have not only artistic and cultural value but they are also amusing. In this context of somuch dynamism Dionisi Palace will certainly surprise you every time you visit it.

Enclosed and open air spaces, malls and pedestrian areas with clothes shop, delicioustypical meals or gourmet, musical, theater and comical shows, all this is part of Barrio Guemes, the result of a clear combination between the culture of the immigration, the bohemia and theavant-garde.

On weekends and national holidays this colourful neighborhood is full of neighbours and touristsfrom around the world attracted by a peculiar magic. From 5 p.m. everything is ready to enjoythe walk, the window shops or the malls where to buy some craft, an exhotic piece of clothingand even furniture or historic relics.

And when the sun sets, more proposals are added around the emblematic Paseo de las Artes, heart of Guemes neighbourhood, where bars, discos, grocery stores and pubs offer from folkshows and discos for the younger ones to the ideal place to live “the” tango experience, becauseGuemes neighbourhood is the only place in Cordoba where the tango and the real Argentinianmilonga can be enjoyed.

In summary, walking along Barrio Guemes with the family or with friends, during the day ormore specially at night, is a peculiar experience, a nice walk and fundamentally it is breathingthe authentic local bohemia.

The north of Cordoba is synonym of tradition and shows proudly in every town and spotthe traces left by history. The first stage of that tour starts in Jesus Maria, exactly 50 kilometresto the north of Cordoba. It is about a city which, apart from being head of Colon District, lookslike a commercial, cultural, and services center for a vast region, besides it is proud of asingular gastronomic offer: the parrilladas (grilled meat) known as the best of the country.

Jesus Maria has The National Breaking-In and Folk Music Festival as a distinctive seal, that everyJanuary combines the passion for the breaking-in and the creole chant, lived with fervour inevery corner of the country. This event, that is among the biggest of the Province, is about tocelebrate its Silver Jubilee, for which it is already preparing a big festivity. These 50 years of“colour and courage” will have in 2015 the special addition of two more nights to the traditional10 ones.

The gaucha festivity will take place between 8th and 19th January and it promises 12 days ofstrong emotions. But while we get ready for the schedule towards that creole festivity, theFestival can start to be felt from inside. Those who tour Jesus Maria have the doors open to goon guided visits at Jose Hernandez Amphitheater and thus being able to get into the history ofthis solitary event, that is realized for the benefit of 20 school fund-raising associations ofJesus Mari and its surroundings. The visits are available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., from Tuesdaysto Sundays. These include a stop at the “hitching post room”, that reproduces the three postswhere the break in starts in the field. It is the opportunity to ride a prop horse and feel, at leastfor a moment, the adrenaline of a horseman in action.

In the middle of the Traslasierra valley, Villa Cura Brochero is a town that, since itsfoundation in 1864, has known how to keep and combine the traditions and the beautifullandscape with the deep mystic mark the gaucho priest left in each of the places wherehe was present. This Villa has always been able to satisfy the tastes of thousands of families that look forsun, river and peace in the summer. This is due to the temperature of its waters with wideriversides within an incomparable natural frame, these are factors that contribute to thechoice of this destination that at present;with 150 years and thanks to the work of the TownHall and private business has added a wide range of possibilities; for those who come toVilla Cura Brochero can find an excellent cultural-touristic as well as gastronomicdestination. To the traditional historical-cultural tours; which include Centenario Square, the Shrine thatkeeps the rests of the Beatified priest, the Brocheriano Museum, the old Casa de Ejerciciosand the Casa del Cura (Priest’s House); the field of the White Christ has almostspontaneously been added. It is the premise where the beatification of the priest JoseGabriel del Rosario Brochero was carried out. The pilgrims talk about his reputation ofsanctity when walking along the narrow street that leads them over there. And in the evening, it is clear that Villa Cura Brochero is a place where you can stay in, acolourful show of crafts have their place at the crafts fair around the square and of coursethe picturesque gastronomic shops that start turning their lights on to show their specialitiesVilla Cura Brochero is like this at present, a proposal you cannot miss any time of the year.

In 1643, Alonso Nieto de Herrera donated the lands of the present Alta Graciato the priests of the Compañia de Jesus; from that moment and for over one hundredyears the buildings that formed the Jesuit Estancia and its surroundings were built on her.In those times the varied production of this place destined to maintain the Colegio Maximoof Cordoba School, included Knitting, fruits, different kinds of flour, production fromcarpentry, blacksmith, foundry, soap making, press devices, chemist, and even barbers. After the expulsion of the priests in 1767, the estancia had several owners until the last one,Jose Manuel Solares, ordered the fragmentation of land and later distribution, giving originto the Alta Gracia village. That legacy which marked the turn of this estancia, currently world legacy, is the same thatderives in a new touristic product called Road of Production, Alta Gracia and the hills.A path of scents, flavours, and textures which show the culture, tradition, and customsinherited by the Jesuits, trying to combine and link the old production with the new one. This touristic road that was born out of the joint work between the Town Hall and a groupof regional producers has as its aim to consolidate the regional productive culture and toinvigorate the economy by strengthening the identity in a touristic circuit where visitorscan know the diversity of the products that are made in the region.Appreciating the working of a loom, walking along a vegetable garden, lodging in a ruralenvironment, tasting and acquiring typical products in a specialized shop, are some of theexperiences that Road of the Production offers the visitor.
