 Welcome to College for Kids! What happens when you mix summer, a college campus, and kids?

Lots of serious fun and active learning! The program strives to

stimulate and nurture the minds of young people ages 4–17 with 159learning options. Classes are designed for highly motivated students

 who want to explore an area of interest. Parents are asked to read de-

scriptions carefully to nd the best t. Most sessions are formatted in

a week of 4 or 5 half days. One of the eight weeks, Kids on Campus,

lets you build days of active learning with morning and afternoon

sessions along with a supervised brown-bag lunch (pg. 20).

Financial Aid

Limited funds are available to assist familiesmeeting low-income requirements. To receivean application, please call NMC’s ExtendedEducational Services ofce at 995-1700.

1. Financial aid awards cover up to half the

cost of each class for a maximum of threeclasses per child (as funds allow). Awardedamount not to exceed $60 per class.

2. To apply, please submit a completed nan-cial aid application along with registrationform and payment (half of the cost of eachclass).

3. Upon receipt of the FA application, regis-tration form, and payment, students will be

enrolled in requested classes. Please callthe EES ofce to learn the status of yourrequest. Applicants who are not awardednancial aid can pay the remaining cost orcancel their reserved spaces one week priorto the class and receive a full refund.

How to Register

Registration is easy—ll out the form, thenphone, fax, mail, or stop by the NMC ExtendedEducational Services (EES) ofce. Registrationbegins April 8. Students may be registeredin as many classes as desired. For additionalregistration forms, please make copies, down-

load from the website, or call the EES ofceat 995-1700. Full payment is due at the timeof registration. Payment may be made bycredit/debit card, check, or cash.

Upon receipt of registration, students areenrolled in requested classes. Please note thedates, times, and locations. You will be notiedonly if changes occur or a session is lled. Writ-ten conrmation will be sent if you include a

stamped, self-addressed envelope.Early enrollment is encouraged and many ses-sions ll quickly. Please register by June 14 -or- at least one week prior to the start dateof any course. Courses with low enrollmentafter June 14 may have to be cancelled.

Refunds

A 100% refund will be given if a request forwithdrawal is made ve business days prior

to the class start date or if a class is cancelled.Withdrawals received closer than ve days mayreceive a 50% credit toward another College

Kate Fairman, M.S.-education, is an adjunct in-structor or Grand Valley State University, artist, andkayak instructor. She has taught art and outdooreducation courses since 1984.

Tina Norris Fields, M.A.-leadership, B.S.-business/ CIS, owns Tall Pines Computer Training and teachescomputer courses for NMC-EES.

Dick Flowers is a landscaper and an outdoor en-

thusiast, naturalist, and instructor. In his spare time,he teaches tree climbing.

Michael Foerster is an astronomer (researchingexoplanets) and a Solar System Ambassador forNASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab.

Carine Gibert, B.A., recently taught with Elk Rapidsschools and is pursuing a master’s degree in educa-tion. She was born in Paris and has lived in Ger-many, Italy, Holland and many parts of the US.

Alan Gobrogge, M.B.A., B.S.M.E., designed andbuilt passive solar homes and solar water heatingsystems, and trained in geothermal design.

Steve Raths, B.A., is a certied SCUBA instructorrecognized by NAUI, PADI, ANDI and other certi-fying organizations. An active instructor at ScubaNorth in TC since 1999, he has previously taughtfor NMC’s College for Kids program.

Marty Rhein, B.A., owns a cabinetry and designconsulting rm, teaches drawing and design atNMC, and teaches watercolors and various craftsprivately to youth and adults.
