The Purpose

Call to Action Despite the success of the Australian METS industry, a number of key challenges and ecosystem trends are threatening its ability to compete and grow in the global market place

Relationships between miners and METS are more transactional than strategic, putting Australia at a disadvantage compared to more collaborative competitors globally.

Australia is ranked poorly globally on collaboration which is a critical innovation measure.

Australia has not been successful at transferring public sector research into commercial outcomes.

Disruptive technologies are both a threat and an opportunity with their impact on the industry accelerating.

Increasing competition from markets such as China and India

Investors overlook METS companies

commercially, especially in their early stages and in long-term capital.

Despite the number of major mining houses and world-class research centres, few Australian

METS companies have grown to become

major global OEMs

and strategies are in place to address them.

Deliver Education Programs METS are actively engaged in further

education to keep knowledge and

skills relevant given the changing

nature of the sector.

Demystify Data & Digitisation METS and Mining are ahead of the curve

on digital disruption and

emerging technologies.

Mentor Future Leaders The METS, mining and research sectors work

together to create opportuniFes and to

acFvely mentor their brightest and best.

Engage Universities Engagement between METS and the

PFRO sector is strong and effecFve.

Absorptive Capacity

Knowledge is a key factors for creating value and sustaining competitive advantage.

The firm’s primary role is the integration of knowledge from individual organizational members to organizational capabilities

No manager can efficiently integrate the knowledge of his or her subordinates,

Management key task is to coordinate the integration of the knowledge of several specialists into goods and services

Absorptive capacity is the ability to acquire and assimilate new knowledge and then transform and exploit this knowledge to create new competitive advantage.
