El Boat Show Palma es sin duda un reflejo del sector náutico de las islas. En un territorio como el nuestro, en el que el mar forma parte de nuestra historia, de nuestras vidas, se entiende que la náutica, en todas sus vertientes, se considere una actividad es-tratégica para la economía de las Illes Balears.

En los últimos años, hemos comprobado como nues-tra tradición náutica nos ofrecía una gran oportunidad de crecimiento a nivel de puestos de trabajo, a nivel de industria, a nivel de comercio. De cada vez más, las empresas relacionadas con la náutica de recreo tienen una mayor importancia en la economía balear. El Boat Show Palma convertirá la ciudad y la isla de Mallorca en el centro neurálgico de la industria y del sector náutico a nivel europeo. Durante cinco días, Palma atraerá a miles de aficionados y profesionales de la náutica de recreo que acudirán fieles a su cita con la 34 edición del Boat Show Palma, que se cele-bra del 28 de abril al 2 de mayo en el Recinto Ferial del Moll Vell de la capital mallorquina. El certamen náutico está organizado por el Instituto de Innova-ción Empresarial (IDI) y Balearic Yacht Brokers As-sociation (BYBA), responsable del Palma Superyacht Show, el área destinada a superyates.

Con una superficie total de 72.210 metros cuadrados, de los que 22.290 son terrestres y 49.920 de espejo de agua, el Boat Show Palma mostrará las últimas novedades en embarcaciones de vela y a motor, equi-pamiento, mantenimiento y deportes náuticos, ade-más de complementos relacionados con la náutica. Más de 200 empresas participan directamente en la feria. La exposición se caracteriza un año más por su calidad ya que la falta de espacio obliga a la dirección del certamen a seleccionar participantes con un perfil todavía más especializado. El objetivo es que el Boat Show Palma continúe siendo un salón dinámico y de prestigio, características que han hecho que sea una de las ferias náuticas que más está creciendo a nivel europeo.

Ampliación del Recinto Ferial Una de las novedades que apreciarán los visitantes será una ampliación del Boat Show Palma en la zona de la Lonja de Pescadores. El incremento supone 2.200 metros cuadrados, 1.400 en tierra y 60 metros de línea de atraque que acogerán una veintena de embarcaciones. Además del crecimiento en superfi-cie, esta ampliación permitirá contar con una nueva entrada al salón náutico justo delante del museo de Es Baluard que acerca el certamen al centro de la ciudad, y supone una vía de comunicación muy importante para Boat Show Palma.

Una oferta de calidad y de prestigio

En cuanto a la oferta de embarcaciones, hay que destacar que la exposición del Boat Show Palma se centra exclusivamente en barcos nuevos expuestos directamente por los astilleros o por distribuidores au-torizados. Se recupera de esta forma la tradición del certamen de Palma de mostrar solamente las últimas novedades, eliminando las unidades usadas.

La eslora media de las más de 225 embarcaciones expuestas en el mar ha crecido, y se ha situado en 16/18 metros. Por su parte, la eslora media de los superyates del Palma Superyacht Show alcanza

los 37 metros. La dirección del Boat Show Palma destaca que la exposición flotante es la más grande de la historia del certamen tanto por el número de embarcaciones como por el tamaño de las mismas. Hay que tener en cuenta que los veleros continúan siendo unos de los protagonistas del salón, escena-rio de las presentaciones de nuevos modelos a nivel mundial. Además, el Palma SuperYacht Show contará con la mayor exposición de veleros de grandes esloras a nivel mundial. No obstante, también cabe destacar el regreso al Boat Show Palma de nuevos modelos de catamaranes, así como la presencia de los astilleros más importantes del mundo.Respecto a la superficie terrestre, una de las nove-dades más destacadas es el Repair&Refit Show, un

La zona, ubicada en el Palma Superyacht Show contará con 1.100 metros cuadrados que acogerán más de 20 ex-positores directos. El Repair&Refit Show, destinado a un público profesional, tendrá una entrada propia comunicada con el resto de la feria.

Colaboración con la Ruta de la Sal

El Boat Show Palma ha colaborado por primera vez con la Ruta de la Sal con el objetivo de ofrecer apoyo a la práctica del deporte náutico de base. Hay que tener en cuen-ta además que la Ruta de la Sal celebra este año el 30 aniversa-rio, una cita muy destacada para una de las pruebas deportivas

más consolidadas, líder indiscutible de participación y popularidad.

La colaboración con la Ruta de la Sal ha consistido en la creación de un Trofeo Boat Show Palma para el ganador de la recién estrenada ruta Oeste,con salida desde el Puerto de Andratx y llegada a Sant Antoni de Portmany.

Onda Cero entrega el premio al Boat Show Palma por su contribución al turismoEl Boat Show Palma ha sido galordonado con el premio Onda Cero Mallorca en la categoría de turismo El conseller de Trabajo, Comercio e Industria, Iago Negueruela, y el director del Boat Show Palma, Chema Sans, recibieron el premio, patrocinado por Meliá, durante la gala celebrada en el Auditorium de Palma el pasado mes de febrero.

El jurado reconoció la labor del Palma Boat Show en la promoción del turismo náutico y de la industria del sector, así como el papel que juega como elemento di-namizador de Palma durante la celebración del salón.

La Conselleria de Trabajo, Comer-cio e Industria recibe el galardón a la entidad más colaboradora con el sector náutico de la AENIB

La Asociación de Empresas Náuticas de las Islas Baleares (AENIB) ha otorgado a la Conselleria de Trabajo, Comercio e Industria el galardón a la entidad que más ha colaborado con el sector náutico. El con-seller Iago Negueruela recogió el premio de la mano del nuevo presidente de la asociación, Jaume Vaquer, a quien deseó una buena trayectoria, y felicitó a Margarita Dahlberg por su labor en favor de la náutica balear en estos últimos 20 años.

Premio Marcial Sánchez Barcáiztegui Por quinto año consecutivo, el Comité Organizador del Boat Show Palma otorgará el premio Marcial Sánchez Barcáiztegui, un galardón que premia a personas o instituciones que han contribuido con su labor empresarial y deportiva a la promoción del sector náutico en todas sus vertientes. El trofeo lleva el nombre de contralmirante y presidente histórico de la Comisión, Marcial Sánchez Barcáiztegui. El acto de entrega del premio se celebrará el día 2 de mayo, a las 11 horas.

Los ganadores anteriores del premio Marcial Sánchez Barcáiztegui han sido la Comisión Naval de Regatas de Baleares (2013), el Trofeo S.A.R. Princesa Sofía (2014), la Escola de Mestres d’Aixa del Consell de Mallorca (2015), y Margarita Dahlberg (2016).

La Noche del Mar

Uno de los momentos más esperados por exposito-res y visitantes es sin duda la Noche del Mar, una cita en la que ocio y negocio se mezclan para dar lugar a una noche única. El sábado, 29 de abril, el Boat Show Palma permanecerá abierto hasta las 23 horas para acoger actividades lúdicas, fiestas y presenta-ciones por parte de expositores. Tras cuatro edicio-nes, la Noche del Mar ha conseguido hacerse con un espacio de ocio diferenciado en la ciudad para todo tipo de público.

Boat Show Investment ForumPunto de encuentro entre emprendedores e inversores del sector náutico

El Boat Show Palma cuenta por primera vez con el Boat Show Investment Forum, una iniciativa empre-sarial que pretende poner en contacto emprendedo-res o empresas en fase de crecimiento con posibles inversores privados que quieran apostar por sus proyectos.

El objetivo del Boat Show Investment Forum es poner en valor y dar visibilidad a los proyectos empresaria-les, así como dinamizar las inversiones en el ámbito de la náutica.

El foro de inversión está destinado a emprendedores o proyectos start-up (con menos de dos años) y em-presas en fase de crecimiento (con más de dos años) que necesitan encontrar inversión privada para hacer crecer su negocio, relacionado siempre con el sector náutico en un sentido amplio (TIC, App, energía, ges-tión portuaria, infraestructuras, materiales, motores, tejidos inteligentes, velas, etc).

El Boat Show Investment Forum, organizado por el Instituto de Innovación Empresarial (IDI) a través de Keiretsu Forum, tendrá lugar el viernes, 28 de abril, a las 17.00 h en el Varadero, en el marco del Palma Boat Show. Durante el encuentro, los emprendedores

o empresarios presentarán los proyectos previamente seleccionados a los posibles inversores.

Para poder preparar el Boat Show Investment Forum, tanto emprendedores como inversores han recibido una formación específica financiada por la Conselleria de Trabajo, Comercio e Industria a cargo de expertos en el funcionamiento de la red de inversores privados, Miquel Costa Planas, presidente de Keiretsu Forum Spain, y Fernando A. Moroy, presidente de Keiretsu Forum Madrid.

Una vez formados, tanto emprendedores como inver-sores podrán poner en práctica todas las habilidades aprendidas en el encuentro final, el Boat Show Invest-ment Forum del día 28 de abril.

Promoción del Boat Show PalmaLa promoción del salón ha sido uno de los aspectos que más se ha incrementado esta ediciónTanto el IDI como BYBA han hecho un gran esfuerzo para estar presentes en las citas náuticas más impor-tantes a nivel nacional e internacional para conseguir captar visitantes profesionales y aficionados. La importancia de la náutica en las Illes Balears viene condicionada por la idiosincrasia de nuestro territorio. El hecho de estar rodeados de mar, de contar con una situación geoestratégica privilegiada, la necesidad de explorar nuevos territorios, todo ello ha contribuido desde siempre a convertir la náutica en un sector económico estratégico para la economía balear.

En los últimos años, se ha dado un gran impulso al sector náutico para que lidere la diversificación

económica tan necesaria en nuestro archipiélago. Balears es sin duda una de las comunidades más concienciadas en la importancia de la náutica en su desarrollo socioecómico, así como por el impacto que tiene el turismo náutico, del cual es referente en el Mediterráneo.

De hecho, se tiene que tener en cuenta que el sector genera en Balears alrededor de 3.000 puestos de trabajo, y se calcula que el volumen de actividad

de a 400 millones de euros. Además, cabe destacar que las matriculaciones de embarcaciones de recreo en 2016 aumentaron un 9,4% en el archipiélago, territorio que también se ha convertido en una de las prime-ras regiones españo-las en el mercado de chárter.

No se debe obviar el crecimiento que ha experimen-tado en los últimos años la industria de reparación y mantenimiento naval, tanto en productividad como en creación de empleo. Muchas de las empresas se han convertido en un referente mundial y han hecho de Balears uno de los destinos más potentes en reparación y mantenimiento de embarcaciones del Mediterráneo.

Todos estos datos de-muestran que la náutica es una parte esencial de la economía balear. Por ello, desde la Conselleria de Trabajo, Comercio e Industria se está llevan-do a cabo un intenso diálogo con los actores integrantes, a través del que se han detectado tres retos de futuro para el sector.

El primero es la necesi-dad de adaptación a las

nuevas corrientes de transformación digital. Por ello, el sector tendrá un papel capital en el Plan Estratégi-co Industrial que está desarrollando la Conselleria, así como en los campos de innovación y clusterización.

El crecimiento que ha experimentado el sector ha evidenciado la necesidad de contar con mano de obra formada y especializada. Por ello, el segun-do reto al que se enfrenta la náutica está relaciona-do con el capital humano. Además de la creación del Programa de Formación Dual que permitirá la cooperación público-privada, se creará un Centro de Formación Náutica para formar a desempleados y ocupados en mantenimiento y reparación de gran-des embarcaciones.

Por último, las empresas del sector deben apostar claramente por la internacionalización como opor-tunidad de crecimiento mediante la ampliación de clientes potenciales en nuevos mercados. Por ello, se está trabajando en un plan para que las empresas acudan a ferias no sólo en Europa sino también en Norteamérica.

· Balears es la tercera comunidad autónoma con mayor demanda de embarcaciones de recreo. En 2016, las matriculaciones aumentaron un 9,4% en las islas. · El mercado de chárter incrementó un 21% su cuota de mercado en 2015.· El número de grandes yates con licencias de chárter ascendía en 2015 a 86, el doble que en 2013.· El sector náutico genera unos 3.000 puestos de trabajo en Balears.· La actividad económica del sector náutico balear asciende a 400 millones de euros.

Palma Superyacht Show, un evento consolidado

Aunque en parte se debe a su posición geoestratégi-ca, el Palma Superyacht Show también ha sido clave para conseguir este estatus. Desde su nacimiento en 2013, el Superyacht Show ha experimentado un cre-cimiento muy rápido que lo ha situado en la primera línea de los certámenes náuticos. Sin duda, tanto compradores como personas que buscan chárters o relacionadas con la industria náutica no se pueden perder esta cita. Esta edición fortalecerá todavía más la posición del evento ya que reúne cantidad y calidad de expositores.

Palma no sólo es una base perfecta para superya-chts, sino que además se ha convertido en el mejor enclave del Mediterráneo para el mantenimiento y reparación de yates. En consecuencia, esta edi-ción del Palma Superyacht Show estrenará un área dedicada al Refit & Repair. Como era de esperar, esta zona presentará un lleno total con 21 expositores, la mayoría de ellos empresas referentes de este sector con sede en Mallorca. La nueva área se reforzará con el "Captain's Corner", un espacio gastronómico dirigido por los aclamados Fosh Food, así como una gran tienda en la que los visitantes podrán asistir a presentaciones y lanzamientos de productos.

La 5ª edición del Palma Superyacht Show contará con 65 superyates y 60 expositores en tierra. Los visitantes interesados en comprar o alquilar un yate podrán ver una selección a nivel mundial de yates de más de 24 metros, que van desde veleros hasta

El Palma Show Superyacht está organizado por y para el sector náutico, y es una plataforma ideal para mostrar lo mejor del sector de superyachts, al mismo tiempo que ofrece amplias oportunidades de net–working, ya sea durante una conferencia, un brunch o una charla improvisada junto con un vaso de vino espumoso.

Por cuarto año consecutivo, el equipo de Blue Café & Gastrobar estará sirviendo aclamados platos del chef Marc Fosh. Hay que tener en cuenta que, tal y como recuerdan Bernat Oliver y Bartomeu Homar en el libro “El llaüt. La barca mediterrània”, “hasta hace poco, la única forma de acceder a las islas era por vía marítima. El tráfico comercial lo protagonizaban grandes embar-caciones a vela que entraban y salían de nuestros puertos para conectar las islas con el mundo y el mundo con las islas”. La llegada de nuevos materia-les, nuevos medios de transporte supuso la substitu-ción de grandes barcos de vela por otros modelos y, en consecuencia, la desaparición de algunos de ellos.

Actualmente, la construcción naval tradicional está representada por la flota artesanal de embarcaciones menores: pasteras, gussis, bots y llaüts. Y precisa-mente, todos ellos estarán presentes en la zona de Marina Tradicional del Boat Show Palma, una nueva área que pretende poner en valor la náutica tradicio-nal, precursora de uno de los sectores económicos emergentes de las islas.

El área de Marina Tradicional, ubicada en la entrada de la zona de Pescadores y con 240 metros cua-drados, pretende ser un espacio para rememorar la historia náutica de nuestra comunidad, pero también quiere dar a conocer la actualidad de las embarca-

ciones tradicionales a la vez que mostrar el oficio de mestre d’aixa como una opción laboral con futuro.

Los visitantes que acudan a la zona de Marina Tradicional podrán observar un gussi, una pastera y dos bots. Además, dos Mestres d’Aixa del Taller del Consell de Mallorca, Pep Florit y Joan Portell, forrarán un llaüt de seis metros de eslora para que se pueda ver el trabajo artesanal de estos profesionales.

Bernat Florit destaca que “pese a las diferentes crisis que se han vivido con la introducción de materiales como la fibra o las recesiones económicas, estamos en un buen momento. Hay demanda de profesiona-les por parte de los astilleros”. Florit asegura estar tranquilo con el futuro del oficio porque “hay sangre nueva que trabaja muy bien”. Florit es consciente que la restauración de una em-barcación antigua implica un gran factor sentimental ya que el coste económico suele ser mayor que ad-quirir un nuevo modelo. “Tiene que existir un vínculo emocional, de querer cuidar nuestro patrimonio que, aunque a veces es un lujo, también es necesario”, asegura Florit.

El Taller de Mestres Aixa lleva a cabo una importante labor pedagógica en los colegios para dar a conocer a los niños el patrimonio marítimo, primer paso para que reconozcan y tengan en estima la herencia de nuestros antepasados.

El área de Marina Tradicional también cumplirá esta función a través de la exposición y explicación de embarcaciones tradicionales menores, demostraciones del trabajo de mestre d’aixa en vivo, y la colaboración de diferentes colectivos que conservan y promocionan todo nuestro patrimonio marítimo: Taller de Mestres d’Aixa del Consell de Mallorca, Amics del Museu Marí-tim, Associació d’Amics de l’Alzina, Associació Cultural d’Amics de n’Agustina, Associació de la Vela Llatina y Asociación de Navegantes del Mediterráneo.

Marina Tradicional, el patrimonio marítimo balear

El Boat Show Palma nos recuerda cada año que las Balears son un territorio de mar. Los amarres que esta semana ocupan las últimas novedades en barcos han acogido durante muchos años las embarcaciones tradicionales de las Illes Balears, algunas de ellas ya desaparecidas como xabecs, llaüts viatgers, bergantins, fragates, etc.

Palma se ha propuesto posicionarse con fuerza en el circuito europeo de city break. la capital mallorquina ha hecho una clara y decidida apuesta turística con el objetivo de ser valorada más allá del sol y playa. Se presenta hoy como una ciudad dimámica, alegre, cosmopolita, convirtiéndose en un destino atractivo todos los días del año y no exclusivamente durante los meses de temporada alta.

Sus magníficas playas han convertido a Palma en uno de los destinos más conocidos y apreciados del mundo, pero la oferta de la ciudad va mucho más allá del sol y playa y le permiten posicionarse como una buena opción para el turismo urbano. Además, las actividades vinculadas a la ciudad se pueden compatibilizar con la práctica de algunos de-portes, como el golf, ciclismo y como no, la naútica. Así pues, en Palma se dan cita eventos deportivos tan destacados como la Palma de Mallorca Mara-thon, que en su última edición reunió durante un fin de semana a 10.000 atletas de 53 países. Además, la regata de la Copa del Rey de vela es un lujo con el que no cuenta ninguna otra ciudad. Este aconte-cimiento deportivo atrae deportistas de primer nivel y devotos de todo el mundo y otorga a la ciudad de Palma una proyección y un prestigio reconocido a escala internacional.

La gastronomía es otra de las grandes apuestas de la ciudad. Dispone de una gran variedad de restau-rantes con cocina local, nacional e internacional. Sin olvidar la animada vida nocturna y su amplia y variada planta hotelera, otro de los puntos fuertes de Palma.

La Ruta de la Sal celebrada durante la Semana Santa llegó a su trigésima edición, una cifra redonda con la que se dio paso a una nueva en esta prueba que es una referencia dentro del calendario mediterráneo de

regatas de altura. La principal novedad de la Ruta de la Sal fue que la regata contó este año con el Club de Vela Port de Andratx como tercer puerto de salida.

La Ruta de la Sal estrena recorrido para unir Mallorca e IbizaLa Versión Oeste zarpó de Andratx y completó una travesía de 103 millas hasta Sant Antoni

rumbo a Sant Antoni en Ibiza, dejando por estribor las islas de Tagomago, Formentera, Es Vedrá , Bledas y Conejera. Unas 103 millas de singladura, que se su-ponen un recorrido bastante asequible por distancias pero con grandes dificultades tácticas, en especial a partir de Tagomago y hasta la línea de llegada en Cap

Negret, en Sant Antoni de Portmany.

El nuevo recorrido, que contó con el apoyo del XXXIV Boat Show Palma, está destinado a potenciar la parti-cipación de equipos de Mallorca y Menorca. Pàra conseguirlo, el Govern Balear, a través del IDI (Instituto de Innovación Empresarial de las Islas Baleares) creó el “Trofeo Entre Islas”, un premio basado en una exclusiva pieza de claro valor artístico, que se adjudicó al ganador absoluto de esta Versión Oeste.

Al trayecto entre Mallorca e Ibiza se sumaron las ya tradicionales versiones Norte y Este. La primera salió desde el CM Port Ginesta con un rumbo directo de 140 millas hasta el Club Náutico de Sant Antoni de Portmany en Ibiza. Por su parte, la Versión Este unió el Real Club Náutico de Denia con Ibiza en un rumbo que obligó a los equipos en competición a tomar Formentera por babor, la Isla de Tagomago.

En esta edición, la Ruta de la Sal inició también un trabajo de promoción para aumentar el carácter internacional del evento. La intención es que cada año participen más equipos de países del norte de Europa, como Alemania, Ho-landa, Reino Unido, Suecia o Dinamar-

ca. Esta iniciativa, además de permitir el crecimiento de la regata, permite promocionar la prueba, y muy en especial la marca Ibiza, en mercados turísticos especializados en náutica.

En este punto conviene recordar que en estos 30 años de historia han navegado en La Sal unas 5.680 em-barcaciones tripuladas por cerca de 37.500 regatistas. Unas cifras que dan una idea de la magnitud de este evento que, al margen de sus bondades deportivas, se ha convertido en un excelente promotor de las cualida-des de Ibiza de cara a la náutica de recreo.

Otra de las novedades de la Ruta de la Sal fue la introducción de la llamada categoría Salina, donde competieron tripulaciones completas patroneadas por una mujer y con un mínimo de la mitad del equipo formado por mujeres. También se mantuvieron las clases habituales de otros años como la Golf, destinada a tripulaciones reducidas de dos personas; y la Training, que reunió a barcos en lista sexta (destinados a alquiler) con patrón profesional o de demostrada experiencia.

-El Boat Show Palma ha dado un vuelco en los últimos 5 años ¿Cuáles cree que han sido los mo-tivos de dicho cambio?-El Salón Náutico de Palma fue víctima de la crisis y se suspendió la edición del año 2012 por la falta de demanda de producto. Esto llevó a replantearse todo el certamen y a buscar aliados para hacer un mejor

salón. De ahí surgió, hace ya cinco años, dos ferias dentro de un mismo recinto: la de la náutica social tradicional y la de brokers. Ahora estamos viviendo una reactivación económica que, unido a la calidad de la oferta de los expositores y al aliado del brokera-ge, son factores determinantes en esta nueva etapa del Salón Náutico de Palma.

Entrevista a Jaume Vaquer, presidente de AENIB

-Una edición más el Salón Náutico de Palma colgará el cartel de completo ¿Se plantean buscar otras ubicaciones?-No. De momento, el salón seguirá celebrándose en el Moll Vell . Este año el comité organizador ha llegado a un acuerdo con la Cofradía de Pescadores para ampliar la superficie de exposición en tierra y se seguirá negociando de cara a próximas ediciones para contar con más espacio donde mostrar las últimas novedades del mercado náutico.

-El certamen tiene cada año un perfil más profe-sional. ¿Esto se refleja en las cifras de negocio?-Antes en las ferias siempre se cerraban acuerdos, mientras que ahora se acude al salón como primera toma de contacto. El cliente se ha profesionaliza-do: es más inquieto, no se conforma con lo primero que ve y quiere estar más seguro de lo que acaba comprando. Por eso, el salón sirve para captar futuros clientes porque las ventas de embarcaciones se materializan a lo largo del año. También juega un papel muy importante las redes sociales. De hecho, algunas empresas cifran sus ventas online entre el 70 y el 80 por ciento.-Y cada vez se tiene a crecer en eslora. ¿Dónde está el límite?-Bueno, el crecimiento de la eslora está relacionado

directamente con la etapa económica que se viva. El límite lo marcan las medidas de los amarres que existen en la actualidad.-¿Ha apostado Mallorca de forma definitiva por los superyates?-Es una apuesta más del sector que se ha sabido adaptar a la demanda que han marcado los nuevos tiempos. Considero que es esta isla convive a la per-fección la náutica tradicional y la de los superyates. En una misma dársena te puedes encontrar amarrado un llaüt y también una embarcación de más de 50 metros. Y en esto debe residir la virtud de mantener una náutica que sea sostenible con nuestra econo-mía, nuestro territorio y nuestra política.-Las empresas náuticas han atravesado dificulta-des en los últimos años. ¿Cree que se ha supera-do esta situación?-Es la segunda temporada que podemos decir que ciertamente la crisis no convive con nosotros aunque sí estamos pagando aún las consecuencias de echar mano de pólizas o créditos que nos han ayudado a pasar los malos momentos. De todas formas, en Baleares los efectos han sido menos patentes por el mercado náutico internacional.-¿Qué objetivos se ha marcado como nuevo presi-dente de Aenib?-Pienso seguir la trayectoria marcada que se centra en conseguir la mejor formación de la gente que tra-baja en el sector náutico, tanto para los que se quie-ran incorporar como para los que llevan toda la vida pero sin ninguna titulación. El Govern balear anuncia-rá en breve la construcción de un nuevo centros de formación para la náutica deportiva que se ubicará en el Polígono de Son Castelló. Otra de las líneas de continuidad es concienciar al sector de la importancia de la calidad medio ambiental. Nos trata tanto de que lo certifique una ISO sino que nos comportemos con el máximo respeto hacia el entorno. Y por último, no abandonaremos la lucha por conseguir armonizar los impuestos con los países que nos rodean. Se ha demostrado que aumentar la carga impositiva en el sector náutico es contraproducente.

Jaume Vaquer acaba de tomar este año las riendas de la Asociación de Empresas Náuticas de las Islas Baleares (Aenib). Como miembro del comité organizador del Boat Show Palma, el empresario analiza en esta entrevista la evolución del certamen.

Boat Show Palma, a trade fair in constant expansion

The nautical event takes place from 28th April to 2nd May at the Moll Vell Dock Exhibition SiteBoat Show Palma will convert the city and the island of Majorca into the focal point of the nautical industry and sector at a European level. Over five days, Palma will attract thousands of loyal recreational sailing fans and professionals to their yearly date with this 34th Boat Show Palma that will take place from 28th April to 2nd May at the Moll Vell Dock Exhibition Site in the Majorcan capital. This boating event is organised by the Institut d’Innovació Empresarial (IDI) and the Balearic Yacht Brokers Association (BYBA), responsi-ble for the Palma Superyacht Show, an area devoted to superyachts.Covering a total of 72,210 square metres, of which 22,290 are on land and 49,920 are in the water, Boat Show Palma will show off the latest developments in motor boats, yachts, equipment, maintenance and watersports, as well as accessories related to the nautical world. More than 200 companies will partici-pate directly in the fair. Once again, the exhibition is defined by its quality, as the lack of space forces the event management to select participants with an even more specialised profile. The objective is that Boat Show Palma continues to be a dynamic and pres-tigious fair, defining characteristics that have made it one of the nautical fairs that has seen the biggest growth within Europe.

Expansion of the Exhibition Site One of the developments that visitors will see this year is the expansion of Boat Show Palma into the area of the Llotja dels Pescadors. This expansion will provide an extra 2,200 square metres, 1,400 on land and 60 berthing lines, allowing for around twenty craft. As well as the increase in area, it will allow for a new entrance to the boat show, just opposite the Es Baluard Museum that will engage the event more with the heart of the city and also present a highly impor-tant communication path for Boat Show Palma.

An offer of quality and prestigeWith regard to the range of boats, this year the Boat Show Palma exhibition will focus exclusively on new boats exhibited directly by boatyards or by authorised distributors. This will permit a return to the original tradition of this Palma event, showing only the latest trends and developments and eliminating used units.The average length of the more than 225 craft on show in the sea has grown, and is now around 16/18 metres. Meanwhile, the average length of the super-yachts in the Palma Superyacht Show is 37 metres.

Boat Show Palma management are keen to point out that the floating exhibition is the largest in the history of the event, both for the number of boats as well as for their size. Yachts continue to be the main attrac-tion at the fair which will be the setting for presenta-tions of new models from across the world. Further-more, the Palma Superyacht Show will be displaying the largest exhibition of superyachts in the world. And yet another highlight is the return to Boat Show Palma of new models of catamaran, and also the presence of the largest shipyards in the world.With respect to the exhibits on land, one of the most notable elements is the Repair&Refit Show, an area dedicated exclusively to the maintenance, repair and modernisation of superyachts. The zone, located in the Palma Superyacht Show, will cover 1,100 square metres and will accommodate more than 20 direct exhibitors. The Repair&Refit Show, aimed at profes-sionals, will have its own entrance that communicates with the rest of the fair.

Collaboration with the Ruta de la Sal RegattaBoat Show Palma has collaborated for the first time with the Ruta de la Sal Regatta to provide support to nautical sports at a grassroots level. The Ruta de la Sal Regatta is celebrating its 30th birthday this year, a headline event for one of the most consolidated spor-ting competitions and an undisputed leader in levels of participation and popularity.Collaboration with the Ruta de la Sal Regatta has consisted in the creation of a Boat Show Palma Trophy for the winner of the newly established West route, that leaves from the Port of Andraitx and fini-shes at Sant Antoni de Portmany.

The nautical sector, a strategic sector for the Balearic Islands

The importance of the nautical sector in the Balea-ric Islands is determined by the idiosyncrasy of our islands. The fact of being surrounded by the sea, of enjoying an excellent geographic location and people’s desire to explore new regions has traditiona-lly contributed to making the nautical sector an area of strategic economic importance for the Balearic economy.

Over recent years, there has been a great drive to make the nautical sector lead the economic diversi-fication that is so necessary on our archipelago. The Balearics is without question one of the autonomous regions that is most aware of the importance of the nautical sector in its socioeconomic development, and also of the impact of nautical tourism, of which it

is a point of reference in the Mediterranean.

Indeed, it should be remembered that the sector generates around 3,000 jobs in the Balearics and it is calculated that the volume of economic activity amounts to 400 million euros. Another point worth highlighting is that registrations of recreational boats increased by 9.4% on the archipelago in 2016, a re-gion that has also become one of the leaders in Spain in the charter market.

The growth that the marine repair and maintenance industry has undergone in recent years should also not be forgotten, both in productivity as well as in the creation of employment. Many of the companies have now become global benchmarks in their field and have made the Balearics one of the foremost destinations for boat repair and maintenance in the Mediterranean.

All this data demonstrates that the nautical sector is an essential part of the Balearic economy. For this reason, the Ministry for Work, Trade and Industry is carrying out an intensive dialogue with actors from the sector, where three future challenges for the sec-tor have been detected.

Digital transformation, human capital and internationalisationThe first is the need to adapt to the new trends of digital transformation. The sector will therefore play a pivotal role in the Industrial Strategic Plan that is being developed by the Ministry, and also in the fields of innovation and clustering.

The growth the sector has undergone has demonstra-ted the need to have a trained and specialised work-force available. This means that the second challenge facing the nautical sector concerns human capital. As well as the establishment of the Programa de Forma-ción Dual (Dual Training Programme) which will permit public-private cooperation, a Nautical Sailing Centre will also be created to train both the unemployed and employed in the maintenance and repair of large craft. Finally, companies from the sector should make a decisive commitment to internationalisation as an opportunity for growth through increasing the num-bers of potential clients in new markets. To this end, a plan is being developed whereby companies will attend fairs that are not only in Europe, but also in the USA.

The nautical sector in figures:- The Balearics is the third autonomous region in Spain with the greatest demand for recreational

boats. In 2016, registrations increased by 9.4% on the islands.- The charter market share grew by 21% in 2015.- The number of superyachts with charter licences was 86 in 2015, double that of 2013.- The nautical sector generates around 3,000 jobs in the Balearics.- Economic activity in the Balearic nautical sector amounts to 400 million euros.

5th Palma Superyacht Show, a consolidated event.

Palma de Mallorca plays a pivotal role in the Me-diterranean yachting scene and is becoming more prominent each year. While this is partly due to its location, the Palma Superyacht Show has also been a powerful force behind this growth. Since its launch in 2013, the Mediterranean’s most friendly superya-cht show has quickly developed into a major-league event, which potential buyers and charterers, as well as those affiliated with the superyacht industry, simply cannot afford to miss. This year’s edition will fortify the show’s position even further as the number of participating yachts and exhibitors will be larger than ever.

Palma not only makes for a perfect base for large ya-chts but has additionally become the Mediterranean’s most favoured spot for yacht servicing and mainte-nance. As a result of this, the 2017 Palma Superyacht Show will see the inauguration of a dedicated Refit & Repair area. To be expected, most of the 21 Refit & Repair stands were quickly filled by some of the many key players in the large superyacht sector based in Mallorca. This new area of the show will be enhanced by the ‘Captain’s Corner’, consisting of a bar - run by the acclaimed Fosh Food caterers - as well as a large tent, where visitors will be able to experience inspiring presentations and product launches.

No less than 65 superyachts and 60 shore-side exhibitors will feature in this year’s 5th edition of the show. Visitors keen to buy or charter a yacht will see a world-class selection of yachts over 24m, ranging from lightweight performance cruisers to tri-decked motor yachts. All yachts will be immediately available for charter and/or sale - just in time to enjoy the Medi-terranean summer season.

Marina Tradicional, Balearic maritime heritage

Boat Show Palma inaugurates a site dedicated to the traditional boats of our regionBoat Show Palma reminds us every year that the Balearics are inextricably linked to the sea. The berths that this week will be occupied by the latest is sailing trends were for many years the moorings of the traditional boats of the Balearic Islands, some of which have now disappeared such as xabecs, llaüts viatgers, bergantins, fragates, etc.As is pointed out in the book “El llaüt. La barca me-diterrània” by Bernat Oliver i Bartomeu Homar, “until very recently the only way to reach the islands was by sea. Commercial traffic consisted of large sailing vessels that entered and left our port to connect the islands with the world and the world with the is-lands.” The arrival of new materials and new means of transport brought about the substitution of these large sailing boats for other models, and as a consequence caused some of them to vanish forever.

These days, traditional boat building can be seen in the fleet of smaller handcrafted boats including pasteras, gussis, bots and llaüts. And these will be on show in the Marina Tradicional zone at Boat Show Palma, a new area that seeks to highlight the value of the boating tradition that was the forerunner of one of the island’s emerging economic sectors.

of the Pescadores zone and covering 240 square metres, is intended to be a space to revisit the sailing history of our region. It will also reveal the current situation of our traditional boats whilst showing the craft of the Mestre d’Aixa (boat builder) as an employ-ment option with a future.

Visitors to the Marina Tradicional zone will be able to see a gussi, a pastera and two bots. There will also be two Mestres d’Aixa from the Consell de Mallorca’s Workshop, Pep Florit and Joan Portell, who will work on a llaüt of six metres to demonstrate the craft work of these professionals.

Bernat Florit assures us that “despite the various crises that have occurred with the introduction of materials such as fibreglass and recent economic recessions, we are going through a good moment at the present. There is a demand for professionals from shipyards.” Florit says he is certain the trade has a future as “there is new blood and it is working well.” Florit is aware that the restoration of an old boat necessitates a significant sentimental draw as the financial outlay is usually greater than if buying a new one. “There has to be an emotional reason to want to take care of our heritage as, even though it can sometimes be seen as a luxury, it is also a necessity”, comments Florit.

The Mestres d’Aixa Workshop is carrying out im-portant educational work in schools to make chil-dren aware of their maritime heritage, a first step in showing acknowledgement and appreciation of the legacy of our forefathers.

The Marina Tradicional area will also perform this function with the exhibition and explanations on sma-ller traditional boats, live demonstrations of the Mes-tre d’Aixa at work, and the collaboration of different collectives who conserve and promote all our mariti-me heritage: Mestres d’Aixa Workshop of the Consell de Mallorca, Amics del Museu Marítim, Associació d’Amics de l’Alzina, Associació Cultural d’Amics de n’Agustina, the Associació de la Vela Llatina, and the Asociación de Navegantes del Mediterráneo.

Palma, a city-break destination

Palma has shown its categorical commitment to be included on the European city-break circuit. The Majorcan capital has made a clear and decisive bid for a type of tourism that values it for something other than simply sun and sea. Today it presents itself as a dynamic, joyful and cosmopolitan city, making it an

attractive destination every day of the year and not exclusively during peak season months.

With a wide range of cultural, gastronomic and spor-ting options, a mild temperature throughout the year and a strategic geographical location at little more than two hours from all major European capitals, it is the perfect city-break destination.

Its wonderful beaches have made Palma one of the best-known and best-loved destinations in the world, but what the city has to offer goes much further than sun and sea, allowing it to establish itself as a great option for urban tourism. It has a cultural and gastro-nomic wealth and countless opportunities for sports and shopping: everything guaranteed to satisfy the most diverse range of tourists, 365 days of the year.

One of the major commitments made by Palma’s 365 Tourism Foundation is to boost and promote Palma as an urban destination - and it is achieving this: Pal-ma is in fashion and this can be clearly seen.

The Majorcan capital boasts a rich cultural heritage such as the Cathedral, Almudaina Palace, Sa Llotja, Plaça Major and Bellver Castle, one of the only castles in Europe with a circular layout. And then of course there are the museums and art galleries. Art lovers will find works by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Miquel Barceló, Calder and Magritte in the Es Baluard Contemporary Art Museum. Miró enthusiasts are also presented a fine opportunity to enjoy his pieces in the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró, a museum located in a modern building designed by the architect Rafael Moneo. There is a permanent exhibition of the Miró collection and temporary displays by other artists.

Activities offered within the city can also be combi-ned with sports, such as golf, cycling and, of course, sailing. Palma is the venue for major sporting events such as the Palma de Mallorca Marathon that last year saw the participation of 10,000 athletes from 53 countries. And the Copa del Rey Sailing Regatta is a sporting gem that no other city has. This nautical event attracts world-class sportspersons and en-thusiasts from across the globe and gives the city of Palma international exposure and prestige.

Gastronomy is another of the city’s major attrac-tions. There is a broad variety of restaurants offering local, Spanish and international cuisine. And then, of course, there’s the lively nightlife and the comprehen-sive and varied range of hotels, another of Palma’s strengths.

The Ruta de la Sal Regatta presents a new route between Majorca and IbizaThis Western Route covers 103 miles and goes from Andratx to Sant Antoni

The Ruta de la Sal Regatta held during Easter Week is now in its thirtieth year. And this landmark birthday will see a new development in a competition that is a benchmark within the Mediterranean calendar of high seas regattas. This year, the Ruta de la Sal Regatta will include Port d’Andratx Sailing Club as a third port of departure. This new Western Route sets off from the Sailing Club towards Sant Antoni in Ibiza, passing the islands of Tagomago, Formentera, Es Vedrà, Bledes and Coni-llera to the starboard side. The route is around 103 miles - a fairly achievable distance - but has signifi-cant tactical difficulties, especially from Tagomago to the finishing line in Cap Negret in Sant Antoni de Portmany.This new route, that has the support of the 34th Boat Show Palma, seeks to boost the participation of teams from Majorca and Menorca. With the support of IDI (Institute for Business Innovation of the Balea-rics Islands), the Balearic Government has created the “Between Islands Trophy”, a prize of outstanding artistic merit that will be awarded to the absolute winner of this Western Route.

The crossing between Majorca and Ibiza now joins the traditional Northern and Eastern Routes. The Nor-thern Route leaves Port Ginesta Sailing Club travelling 140 miles directly towards the Sant Antoni de Port-many Sailing Club in Ibiza. The Eastern Route links the Denia Royal Sailing Club with Ibiza on a course that forces competing teams to pass Formentera on the port side.

The Ruta de la Sal Regatta has also instigated pro-motional work to raise international exposure of the event. The aim is that each year more teams from Northern Europe will participate, such as Germany, Holland, UK, Sweden and Denmark. This initiative, as well as enabling the regatta to grow, will help promote the competition and especially the Ibiza brand in markets that specialise in nautical tourism.In its 30-year history around 5,680 boats have taken part with almost 37,500 crew. These figures give an idea of the greatness of this event which, apart from its sporting virtues, has become an excellent pro-motor of all the assets Ibiza has to offer in regard to recreational sailing.

where boats are captained by a woman and at least half the crew are female. There are also the usual classes as in other years such as the Golf category, for boats sailed by two people, and the Training category, for boats on the sixth list (for hire) with a professional skipper or someone with demonstrable experience.

Interview whit Jaume Vaquer (AENIB)

Jaume Vaquer has recently taken over the reins of AENIB, the Balearic Nautical Association. As a member of the organising committee of Boat Show Palma, in this interview the businessman analy-ses the evolution of the event. -Boat Show Palma has changed drastically over the last 5 years. What do you think have been the reasons for these changes?-Palma’s International Boat Show was a victim of the recession and in 2012 it was cancelled due to a lack of demand for the products. This led to a rethink of the entire event and a search for allies to create a better exhibition. The result of this was two different fairs within the same site: that of the traditional social nautical sector, and that of brokers. We are now seeing an economic upturn which, along with the quality of what exhibitors are offering and coupled with brokerage, are key factors in this new phase of Boat Show Palma.-For yet another year Boat Show Palma will hang up the “full” sign. Is there any thought about moving to another location?-No. For the time being the fair will continue to be held at the Moll Vell Dock. This year the organising committee has reached an agreement with the Fisher-man’s Guild to expand the exhibition area on land and will continue to negotiate for future years to find more space to show off the latest trends in the boating market.-Each year the event has a more professional profi-le. Is this reflected in business figures?-In the past deals used to be sealed at fairs, whereas nowadays the fair is where initial contact is made. The client has become more professional: they are more discerning, they don’t settle for the first thing they see and want to be more confident about what they are about to buy. The fair serves to attract future clients as boat sales happen throughout the year anyway. The internet also plays an important role; in fact, some companies rate their online sales figures at between 70 and 80 percent. -The length of the boats is continually increasing. Where’s the limit?-Well, the growth in length is related directly to the

economic times we are living through. The limit is determined by the berths that currently exist.-Has Majorca made a definitive commitment to superyachts?-It is just one more commitment made by the sector that has understood it needs to adapt to demand as times have changed. I think that traditional sailing boats and superyachts are coexisting perfectly toge-ther on this island. On the same jetty you can find a llaüt and also a craft of more than 50 metres berthed. But having said this we need to develop a nautical sector that is sustainable within our economy, our region and our policies.-Sailing companies have gone through difficult ti-mes over recent years. Do you think they have come through this now?-This is the second season that we have been able to say for certain that the recession is no longer with us, although we are still paying for the consequen-ces of having taken out credit facilities to help us get through the bad times. At all events, the effects in the Balearics have been less noticeable thanks to the international boating market.-What objectives have you set out as the new Presi-dent of AENIB?-I think I will continue on the established path that focuses on getting the best training for people who work within the nautical sector, both for those to wish to join as well as for those who have spent their entire life in it but who have never gained any qualifications.

The Balearic Government will soon announce the construction of new training facilities for recreational sailing in the Polígono de Son Castelló in Palma. Another of the lines I will be continuing is raising awareness within the sector of the importance of en-vironmental quality. It’s not so much about acquiring an ISO certificate but rather behaving with maximum respect towards the environment. And finally, we will not give up on the fight to harmonise taxes with the countries that surround us. It has been demonstrated that an increased tax burden in the nautical sector is counterproductive.

The Boat Show Investment Forum, a point of contact between entrepreneurs and investors from the nautical sector

Boat Show Palma will be host for the first time to the Boat Show Investment Forum, a business initiative that seeks to put entrepreneurs or growing busines-ses in contact with potential private investors who want to support their projects.

The objective of the Boat Show Investment Forum is to place value on, and give visibility to, business projects, and also to boost investments in the nautical sector.

The investment forum is aimed at entrepreneurs or start-up projects (less than two years old) and growing companies (more than two years old) that need to find private investment to make their business grow, provided it is related to the nautical sector in the broadest sense of the term (ICT, apps, energy, port management, infrastructures, materials, engines, smart textiles, sails, etc.).

The Boat Show Investment Forum, organised by the Institut d’Innovació Empresarial (IDI) through the Keiretsu Forum, will take place on Friday 28th April at 4.45 pm in the Varadero, within the framework of Boat Show Palma. At the event, the entrepreneurs or businesspersons will present their previously-selected projects to potential investors.

In order to prepare for the Boat Show Investment Forum, both entrepreneurs and investors alike have received a targeted training course financed by the Ministry for Work, Trade and Industry and run by Miquel Costa Planas, President of Keiretsu Forum Spain, and Fernando A. Moroy, President of Keiretsu Forum Madrid, both experts in how private investor networks operate.

After receiving their training, both entrepreneurs and investors will be able to put all their new skills into practice at the final event, the Boat Show Investment Forum on 28th April.

The promotion of Boat Show Palma

The promotion of the trade fair is one of the aspects that has increased most for this year’s Boat Show Palma. Both the IDI as well as the BYBA have made huge efforts to attend all the most important nautical fairs at a Spanish and international level with the aim of attracting both professional and enthusiast visitors. Boat Show Palma was at the Cannes Yachting Fes-tival, the Monaco Yacht Show, boot Düsseldorf and Barcelona International Boat Show.

Onda Cero awards Boat Show Palma a prize for its contribution to tourism

Boat Show Palma has been awarded the Onda Cero Mallorca prize in the tourism category. Iago Negue-

ruela, Minister for Work, Trade and Industry, and Chema Sans, Director of Boat Show Palma, received the prize which was sponsored by Meliá at a gala held at the Auditorium de Palma last February.The jury acknowledged the work of Palma Boat Show in the promotion of nautical tourism and the sector’s industry, and also the role it plays as a stimulus to Palma during the fair.

The Ministry for Work, Trade and Industry receives an award from AENIB for being the entity that has colla-borated most with the nautical sectorAENIB, the Balearic Nautical Association, has pre-sented the Ministry for Work, Trade and Industry the award for being the entity that has collaborated most with the nautical sector. The Minister Iago Neguerue-la collected the prize from the new President of the Association, Jaume Vaquer, wishing him a successful future in his new role, and also congratulated Mar-garita Dahlberg for her work in assisting the Balearic nautical sector over the past 20 years.

Marcial Sánchez Barcáiztegui award

For the fifth consecutive year, the Boat Show Palma Organising Committee will present the Marcial Sán-chez Barcáiztegui award, an accolade that rewards persons or institutions that have contributed to the promotion of the nautical sector across all its strands with their business or sporting activities. The trophy bears the name of the Rear Admiral and historic Pre-sident of the Commission, Marcial Sánchez Barcaizte-gui. The award ceremony will take place on 2nd May at 11 AM.

Previous winners of the Marcial Sánchez Barcáiztegui have been the Naval Commission of Balearic Rega-ttas (2013), the H.R.H. Princess Sofia Trophy (2014), the Escola de Mestres d’Aixa of the Consell Insular de Mallorca (2015) and Margarita Dahlberg (2016).

The Noche del Mar (Night of the Sea)

One of the most eagerly-anticipated moments for ex-hibitors and visitors alike is unquestionably the Noche del Mar, an evening where leisure and business mix giving rise to a unique night. On Saturday 29th April, Boat Show Palma will remain open until 11 pm hos-ting games, fiestas and presentations by exhibitors. After four years, the Noche del Mar has made quite a name for itself as an unparalleled entertainment experience in the city for all types of publics.
