Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) is situated in the heart of the country’s prime coking coal belt, Dhanbad city, 170 kilometers from Ranchi and 260 kilometers from Kolkata. The fully residential IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is spread across 220 acres and has all the facilities of a world class academic institute. The institute was established in 1926 on the lines of Royal School of Mines, London with a vision to impart mining education and has now developed into a full fledged multi-departmental deemed technical university. Indian School of Mines admits undergraduate students from the top 0.5% rankers out of 1.4 million candidates appearing for IIT-JEE Advanced Examination.ISM has been recently converted into IIT (ISM) Dhanbad under IT (Amendment) Act 2016.

UNIQUENESS OF THE COURSE

• All the students have been admitted through IIT JEE-2012.

• The course was institutionalised to make students excel at both industrial as well as managerial positions.

• The students are provided with two separate degrees which is equivalent to 4 year B.Tech. and 2 year MBA degrees.

• The program offers all B.Tech. subjects in the first four years in addition to which all subjects of MBA are incorporated from 5 th

semester and complete syllabus is covered by 10th semester.

• Graduating from one of the most reputed institute, students of this branch expertise in Mining Engineering alongside managerial

specialisation in combinations like Finance & Marketing, Finance & Operation and Marketing & Operation.

• Under this course, students undergo 6 weeks managerial internship/training and numerous excursions in their respective

specialization in companies like Deloitte, BCCL, IOCL etc.

• Alumni of this course are at formidable positions in various esteemed companies like PWC, KPMG, Accenture, TATA Steel,

Walmart, OYO Rooms etc.

Students undergo a 3 week survey camp in which they prepared a part plan of ISM campus or any neighbouring mines using conventional & advanced survey instruments.

Students undergo 6 weeks Summer internship (Management based) in the 4th year in their field of specialization like Finance, Marketing, HR or Operations.

Upto 4th year there are two 1 day excursions in each semester and a one week metal mines excursion in 2nd year to UCIL, TATA and ACC mines in Singhbhum district.

Established in 1926, the department of Mining Engineering has advanced to become one of its kind in the country with excellent teaching and research facilities. The Department has been recognized as a QIP Centre for the faculty members of other Mining Engineering Departments of the country to pursue higher studies. The Department has been accorded the status of Centre of Advanced Studies· In Mining Engineering by the University Grant Commission, in recognition of its high standards of teaching, research and services to the mining industry.The curriculum is so designed as to make students aware about all the available technologies in the industry along with the ongoing research and in

the duration of the Engineering course they are made acquainted with operation of almost all neighboring mines through 3 yearly trainings of 6weeks, along with 2 excursions in each semester and 1 week excursion to the metal mines of UCIL, Tata Steel and ACC.

Established in 1977, Department of Management Studies has so far completed many consultancy assignments, in-house and off-campus executive development programmes and specific research projects supported by AICTE, UGC, ICSSR, MHRD, DGMS, CMPFO, NHPC, Power Grid, CIMFR, CIL, World Bank etc. The department has been constantly rated as A/A+ institute by the various rating agencies including AIMA-Business Standard, Business World, Business India, Outlook/C-fore etc. in their B-School surveys conducted from time to time. The faculty and the students of the department have also won laurels for the School by their all-round activities.

Human Engineering Laboratory

Treadmill, Ergometer, ECG Machine, Biomonitor, BP Measuring Instruments, Oxylog, Audiometer, Anthropometer, Skinfold Caliper, etc. are available to facilitate Reaction Time Analysis, Physical Fitness Test, Antropometric Database generation for design of machine and workplace.

Systems Laboratory

It is equipped with software like AutoCAD, MATLAB, System Dynamics Software (IGRASP), MS Project, MINITAB, LINDO & LINGO. Financial Databases like Capital Line Corporate Database, Economic Intelligence Unit and Cygnus Portal Database are also available.

Psychology Laboratory

Ring Toss, Ergograph, Tachistoscope, etc. are available for Intelligence Testing, Aptitude Measurement, Personality Assessment, Managerial Aptitude Testing, Stress Profile and Employee Behaviour Analysis.

Work Study Laboratory

Instruments like Work Sampling Simulator, Anemometer, Clinometer, Inclinometer, etc. for carrying out Time and Method study for System improvement.

• Concetto: Technical fest, ISM Dhanbad with participation of about 2000 students along with students from Schools of Dhanbad city.

PLACEMENT POLICY

• Companies are categorised into two bands based on the Cost To Company (CTC) offered by the company to the Student. It is

categorised as follows:

Band A: >= 5 Lacs

Band B: < 5 Lacs

• In case of a band B company, a student can take maximum of 2 jobs in the following ways:

(a) Jobs in two IT companies: A student placed in Band B company can sit for any other company of same band with higher

CTC.

(b) Jobs in one IT company & one non-IT company: A student placed in Band B IT company can sit for other non IT company of

any band and vice versa.

• A student placed in Band B company will be allowed to sit for Band A company but the vice versa is not allowed.

• Over and above a student who has been selected by two companies will not be allowed to sit for any other company.

• A student may appear for a second job in accordance with the above clause, but if he/she is selected for the job, he/she must put

down the previous offer on that very day of his/her selection in the company.
