Serie de medidas que se toman para reducir el riesgo de entrada y diseminación de un patógeno en una granja, región y/o país.

Sin eliminar totalmente los riesgos un buen programa de bioseguridad y manejo ayuda a proteger la salud del hato.

Es difícil porque: • Riesgos

PED Cases Update

Manitoba: A new case of PED was reported in a farrowing unit in South Eastern Manitoba in three

week old pigs. Younger pigs were affected the following day with severe diarrhea and an increase

in mortality. A normal PED response has been initiated with the producer and farm veterinarian.

PED Cases UpdateManitoba: Three new cases of PED were confirmed today, all in Buffer Area 5. Thebuffer areas are expanding somewhat as can be seen on the map below. Two arecontinuous sow operations (24 and 25) showing clinical signs prior to testingpositive. Case 26 was a finisher site that was positive on surveillance testing. Anadditional 11 sites within the 5 km buffer zone around case 24 and 2 additionalsites around case 26 are at risk of infection. Currently there are an estimated650,000 pigs under surveillance in the 5 km buffer zones.

I. If the Boar Stud is confirmed PRRS-positive via T-RT-RS process (semen PCR, serum PCR and/or ELISA/IFA) at any time during project.

1 Immediately stop all semen shipments from the confirmed positive boar stud.

1a. Option A - immediately depopulate, wash/disinfect/dry (WDD), repopulate with naïve boars

1b. Option B - load, close (120 days), homogenize (mass vaccinate d0, d30, d90), WDD, reopen (d120), <=52wk roll-over with naïve boars

2 Begin utilizing semen from a back-up PRRS-naïve boar stud until primary stud is negative and operating again.

3 Test all at-risk sow farms receiving semen within the last 21 days, focusing specifically on animals inseminated in the past 21 days.

3a. Initially sample at a "95/2" level (n=150) - run PCR pools (pool <=5 per pool) and ELISA

3b. Re-sample animals with SP's <=0.5 in +7d, 14d, & 28d - watch for PCR+ and/or significant ELISA changes

4 Mass vaccinate all confirmed positive sow farms receiving semen from this stud within the last 21 days:

4a. If farms were 100% expected negative (d720+) - mass vaccinate now (d0), repeat at d30, then repeat again at d90.

4b. If farms were positive but have not used vaccine for 90 days or more (d360+) - mass vaccinate twice 30 days apart.

4c. If farms were positive and have used vaccine less than 90 days ago (<d360) - mass vaccinate once.

5 Immediately divert weaned pig flow from all confirmed positive sow farms - divert pigs for >=60 days after 1st (d0) sow herd mass vaccination

6 Close and test all potentially affected downstream nurseries

6a. Initially mark (tag?) & sample >=10 pigs per room - run PCR pools (pool <=5 per pool) and ELISA

6b. Re-sample marked (tagged?) animals with SP's >=0.1 in +7d & 14d - watch for PCR+ and/or significant ELISA changes

7 For all confirmed positive nursery sites…

7a. If downstream finishers are 100% expected negative - immediately depopulate nursery (pigs to leave the system)

7b. If downstream finishers placed <=30d expected negative - immediately depopulate nursery (pigs to leave the system)

7c. If downstream finishers positive & 100% 2x vaccinated - close nursery / mass vacc d0, repeat d30 / open d60 / resume flow to FIN

8 Sample (d0) & resample (d14) boar source herd(s) upstream finisher/developer, nursery, sow farm at a "95/5" or greater level (n>=60)

9 Sequence and determine origin of virus - resident virus or non-resident virus?
