Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (Dibujo).Profesor de Dibujo y Artes Visuales para Enseñanzas Medias.

Diseñador gráfico freelance.Ha expuesto su trabajo en diferentes espacios entre Canarias y la Península.

Ha comisariado diferentes exposiciones, entre otros, para el Gobierno de Canarias.Ha publicado en diversas ocasiones, libros, revistas, artículos de prensa, diseños gráficos, etc. En

algunos casos, ha dirigido la maquetación y el diseño editorial.Ha participado en diferentes proyectos artísticos.

Este documento muestra la descripción de una obra que ha ido evolucionando a lo largo de los últimos diez años.

Estos trabajos han pasado por diversas fases, estudios y a menudo ha entrado en callejones sin salida que han requerido volver al punto inicial.

En las siguientes diapositivas se ilustra una selección de esta investigación gráfica.

Bajo estas líneas y a la izquierda se puede ver un índice gráfico que nos indica cada una de las diferentes series.

INTRODUCTION

This document shows a description about the developing of a artistic work along the last ten years.

These works have walked through many stages, studies and several times at dead ends what required to start once again.

The following pages are illustrated by some of these outstanding works due to the graphic research.

Each one of this works or series become the result of a critic and sometimes strict reflection, though.

EPIKINONÍAS 1999

En un primer momento, el interés se centró especialmente en la cultura prehispánica de Canarias, sobre todo en sus manifestaciones gráficas. En esta época (1997-1999) surge la primera serie denominada Epikinonía (del griego, Comunicaciones).En ella se refleja la unión de dos mundos, el aborigen y el actual, simbolizado con diferentes trozos de tela cosidos y grandes manchas, en tres colores básicos, negro, blanco y almagre (tierra siena).Claramente hay influencias del artista Manolo Millares, del Expresionismo Abstracto y a su vez de la cultura Zen.

EPIKINONIAS 1999

At first, the interest centered itself specially in the ancient Canary Islands culture, mainly in its graphic traces. In this period (1997-1999) outcomes the first serie called Epikinonia (from Greek: Communications).In this work one can see the joining of two worlds, the ancestral and our present, symbolized through different pieces of sewing clothes with big stains basically in three colors, black, white and almagre (a kind of sienna).There are clear influences in abstract Expressionism (Manolo Millares) and Zen culture.

HERENCIAS INTERFÁSICAS 2005

El interés por la cultura prehispánica y como resultado, la interpretación mediante grafismos sobre distintas telas, dio paso

a un trabajo digital a partir de 2000.Realizado en formato Video, está basado en un amplio trabajo de campo que inicialmente se centró en la captura de composiciones

de telas sobre scanner directamente, fotografías directas a un aparato tv para conseguir su efecto “moire” y en otras imágenes

ya existentes.Por otro lado, se relacionó esta forma de expresión antigua con

los lenguajes del ordenador como interface, como canal de comunicación.

Por ello, el resultado de la investigación fue la combinación de dos elementos o lenguajes diferentes que en el fondo son la

mismo.En las páginas que siguen, se muestra algunas imágenes relativas

a este trabajo de investigación gráfica.El vídeo se puede ver en el CD que acompaña este book.

HERENCIAS INTERFÁSICAS 2005

The interest for prehispanic culture and, as result of that, its interpretation throu drawings over different kind of clothes, gave

birth to a digital creation from 2000 on.Made in Video format, it is based in a wide background work

initially focused in the direct scan of clothes, tv screen pictures (for catching the Moire effect) and other images.

In the other hand, this form of ancient expression and the modern computer languajes were combined, looking for the

interface as a communication channel.As a result of this research we realize the joining of two elements,

two different languajes that in deep, they are the same.In the following pages, some of this pictures illustrate part of this

graphic research.The whole video can be found in the CD given with this Book.

PROYECTO PICACHO 2003Este proyecto comisariado por el landartista Germán Páez, consistió en recurrir por medio de una invitación a17 artistas para que intervinieran en un campo arrasado por un incendio.La exposición se llevó a cabo en el Círculo de Bellas Artes de Santa Cruz de Tenerife.Esto ocurrió en 2001. Después del incendio, las hierbas silvestres desaparecieron y esto dio lugar a que apareciera mucha basura: lavadoras, neveras, escombros de obra, latas, botellas...En este caso, mi propuesta se basaba en un hecho claro: estamos dentro de un mundo degradado del que no podemos salir. Estamos atrapados.Dentro de cada esfera de cristal hay un mundo sucio, pero fuera todo es limpio y puro.

PROYECTO PICACHO 2003This was a project by the curator German Paez, landartist, who invited seventeen artists to act over a burnt land.The exhibition was cellebrated in Circulo de Bellas Artes de Santa Cruz de Tenerife Museum. This happened in 2001. After the fire it came out all sort of scum and trashover the camp now without vegetation.Fridges, laundries, tins, bottles… In my case, porposal was a clear fact: we are inside a dirty and demoted world where there’s no scape.We are trapped. Inside each crystal sphere one finds out a filthy world, but outside everything is clean and pure.

FRAGMENTOS - 1 (2005-06)La búsqueda de un referente y la necesidad de unión de diferentes realidades va generando una serie de imágenes fragmentarias, como parte de esta iconosfera e iconocultura en la que habitamos, es decir, estamos rodeados de imágenes cada día, en la calle, en la televisión, en Internet, etc.Fragmentos - 1 es una búsqueda de una imagen global, compuesta de varios detalles de otras imágenes, detalles de la realidad que ya los cubistas descubrieron en la primera década del s. XX.Esta búsqueda supuso una gran cantidad de dibujos y estudios compositivos, pues el criterio físico del soporte seguía siendo el mismo que al principio, es decir, trozos de tela unidos por una cuerda.

FRAGMENTS - 1 (2005-06)The search of a model and the necessity to combinate different realities arises a compound of fragmentary images as a part of this “iconosphere”and “iconoculture” where we dwell, that is, we are surrounded by images every day, in the street, in tv,Internet, etc.Fragments 1 is the search of a global image, made by several details from different pictures, details from that reality that cubists discovered in the first decade in the XXth century.This research meant a large amount of drawings and compositive studies because the creative way phisically still went on the same: different piecesof clothe joined by a string.

FRAGMENTOS - 2 (2007)Fragmentos es el título de una muestra que reflexiona sobre el presente que nos toca vivir, pero esto no debe verse como una definición de esa realidad, sino como una meditación.El poeta y escritor, Rainer M. Rilke, pedía en sus Cartas a un joven poeta que utilizara para expresarse las cosas que le rodean, las imágenes de sus sueños, los objetos de sus recuerdos. Nuestra mirada es la suma de una serie de fragmentos visuales continuos. Al cerrar los ojos, la última imagen vista queda grabada en laretina, o más figurado: en "el interior del párpado". Esta imagen es la que se queda en la memoria durante unos instantes y que luego olvidamos y se denomina Imagen Latente.La visión fragmentada del movimiento de una persona ocupa una parte importante de esta muestra, o dicho de otro modo, se trata de capturar un instante de nuestra memoria, en el que se representa la imagen de una persona que se está moviendo.Fragmentos 2 supone un retorno al dibujo, a la expresión gráfica pura, a la riqueza de la línea y la mancha.Esta obra está realizada principalmente sobre papel, entre otros formatos.

FRAGMENTS - 2 (2007)Fragmentos is the name of an exhibition which reflects about the present we live, but we shouldn’t see this as the meaning of this reality but a meditation.

The poet and writer Rainer Maria Rilke asked in his Letters for a young poet for using the surrounding things in his expression, the images of his dreams, the

objects of his remembrances. Our sight is the result of an amount of visual constant fragments. By closing the eyes, remains “recorded” in the retina, but

this last image still remains for a while in the brain and then we forget inmediately. This image is called latent image.

The fragmented vision of a person movement is an important part of thisexhibition, otherways we would catch an instant of our memory where the

image of a person in movement is represented.Fragments 2 means the way back to drawing, to pure graphic expression, to

the richness of simply line and stain. This work is made mainly over paper, although there are other formats.

UTOPIA (2008)El fenómeno de la emigración, la globalización,

la sociedad del entretenimientoy las grandes diferencias

entre los países, resulta una utopíaque ya autores como Skinner o

Chomsky entre otros, han tratadoprofundamente.

Nos queda la mancha, un aspectocrudo que va dejando un rastro inesperado.

Esta obra es el comienzo de un trabajoposterior. Hasta ahora la fase de

estudio está sin acabar.

UTOPIA 2008Phenomens as inmigration,Globalization, entertainment societyand the big differences among thecountries turn into utopia, studieddeeply by authors as Skinner orChomsky among others.We just have the stain, with its rawlook that leaves an unespected trace.This works are the beginning of apost activity. Sánchez y que se titula Las Flores de Teresa.Este lote de dibujos están realizados a tinta sobre papel,

basados en los textos del libro publicado en Gran Canaria.Todas las ilustraciones tienen un tamaño aproximado al formato Din A4, (29X21 cm) y están realizados con tinta

china sobre papel Canson. Los títulos no están presentes pues el trabajo se realiza para ilustrar un libro.

Las Flores de Teresa (2008)A series of drawings which illustrates the book of Lidia Romero Sánchez, called The Flowers of Teresa.This set of drawings is made using just ink over paper, based in the texts of the book published in Gran Canaria.All the images are about Din A-4 format size (29X21 cm).The titles are not present because the drawings illustrate a book and each title belongs to each chapter.
