NEW POWER HOUSE SITE

• THE PROPOSED PROJECT LOCATED IN UTTARAKHAND STATEENVISAGES UTILIZATION OF WATER OF RIVER PABAR WHICHIS A TRIBUTARY OF RIVER TONS(WHICH ITSELF IS A TRIBUTARYOF RIVER YAMUNA) FOR GENERATION ON A RUNOF THE RIVERTYPE DEVELOPMENT HARNESSING A HEAD OF 280M.

• THE PROJECT IS LOCATED ABOUT 175 km FROM DEHRADUN(NEAREST RAILHEAD).

• THE PROPOSED LOCATION OF BARRAE IS NEAR VILLAGEARAKOT (DISTT UTTARKASHI) WHILE POWER HOUSE ISLOCATED NEAR TIUNI TOWN (DISTT DEHRADUN) ON THERIGHT BANK OF RIVER TONS JUST U/S OF ITS CONFLUENCEWITH RIVER PABAR.

• THE PROJECT WITH A INSTALLATION CAPACITY OF 81MW (3 X27) MW WOULD GENERATE 404.29 MU IN A 90% DEPENDABLEYEAR.

BRIEF OF THE PROJECTARAKOT TIUNI HYDRO ELECTRIC PROJECT

THE PROJECT ENVISAGES CONSTRUCTION OF: A 69m long barrage across river Pabar near Arakot village with

river bed level of 1197m and pond level at 1210.5m. A side intake and two desilting chambers each of of length

180m, width 10m and depth 19.7m. A 11.088 Km long and 3.75m D-Shaped HRT terminating into a

surge shaft. A 65m deep, 13m dia surge shaft of restricted orifice type. A surface powerhouse having 3 vertical Francis type turbines

of 27 MW each operating under a head of 280/258.65m. Pressure shaft of 3.4m dia with 3 nos penstocks of 1.9m dia

each A 33m long , 3m wide and 2.17m deep TRC.

SCOPE OF WORKSARAKOT TIUNI HYDRO ELECTRIC PROJECT

HYDROLOGYThe river Pabar has a total catchment area of 1343 sq Km at the proposed barrage site. The water availability for the project has been considered on the basis of 10 daily discharge data of river Pabar at Tiuni gauge site. Water availability at barrage site has been derived from the above data on the basis of catchment area proportion. The design flood has been estimated as 2355 cumecs. POWER POTENTIAL STUDIESThe computed inflow series for 25 years viz. 1976-77 to 2001-02 has been considered in assessing the power benefits from the 90% dependable year -Annual generation 404.29 Mu , Annual load factor 56.82%50% dependable year –Annual generation 536.01 Mu , Annual load factor 75.54%

Note: In the DPR, inflow data upto 2001-02 has been used, as per CWCobservation on Hydrology, data upto 2008 is being included. Somechanges if hydrology & power potential studies may occur accordingly.

GEOLOGYThe rocks exposed in the entire project area are limestone, slate, quartzite, phyllites and basic rock intrusive known collectively as Deoban lime stone formation. The rocks generally dip at 30 to 65 degrees in N100E to easterly direction.SOCIO ECONOMIC ASPECTSThe project area at an elevation 1200m is sparsely populated. The main occupation is terrace agriculture, timber, sheep breeding etc. The people generally are poor as agriculture is limited and most of the area is forested. The project will make electrical energy available to local people for cooking and other domestic and industrial purposes which will improve social and economic life. This will also reduce use of fuel wood by the local people thereby resulting in reduction in consumption of forest Resources. The Project will also be instrumental in improving socio-economic conditions of the area as it will increase employment opportunities.

General Information About The Area… (Contd.)There is vast un-tapped hydro potential on river Tons and its tributaries. River Pabar is main tributary of river Tons.The area along the Tons and its tributary is mostly forested and is under developed. There is no major township along the Tons beyond Tiuni which is the confluence of the Tons with its major tributary the Pabar.
